I shall briefly tell you the purpose for which the great-souled Kṛṣṇa was born among men, and what Vāsudeva has accomplished.
This slayer of foes, lotus-eyed, has slain hundreds of thousands of Dānavas and gone to the chasm of the underworld.
What was not attained before by Prahlāda, Bali, or Śambara, has now been achieved here by Śauri for your sake.
The wise one subdued Mura with his noose, seized Pāñcajanya, and, overcoming heaps of rocks, slew Niśumbha along with his followers.
The mighty Dānava Hayagrīva was slain, and Bhauma was crushed in battle, his earrings taken once again.
Again, at the slaying of Bāṇa, Śauri, along with the Ādityas and Vasus, will be approached by the Sādhyas, led by me, O Madhusūdana.
Having spoken thus, Vāsava took leave of all the Kukuras and Andhakas, and embraced Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, and Vasudeva.
He also embraced Pradyumna, Sāmba, Aniruddha, Sāraṇa, Babhru, Jhalli, Gada, Bhānu, and Cārudeṣṇa, with Vṛtrahā.
After honoring Sāraṇa and Akrūra, and again addressing Sātyaki, he embraced the king of the Vṛṣṇis, Āhuka, lord of the Kukuras, Kṛtavarṇa of the Bhojas, and other Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis.
Taking leave, Vāsava, best among the gods, addressed Vāsudeva, and then the lord mounted Airāvata, the elephant resembling a white mountain.
As all beings looked on, the lord of Śacī ascended the noble elephant, which traversed earth, sky, and heaven.
Its trumpeting resounded repeatedly like thunder, filling the quarters, with golden harness, great girth, and golden tusks.
Its charming back was spread with fine cloths, adorned with all kinds of jewels, ever streaming fragrant ichor, as if pouring forth a rain cloud.
Wearing a garland of gold, he shone atop the lordly elephant of the quarters, like the blazing sun on the summit of Mandara.
Then, taking up his mighty thunderbolt and supreme goad, the lord of Śacī departed with the powerful Fire-god.
The delighted Maruts, Kubera, Varuṇa, and the planets followed him behind, with herds of female elephants and celestial chariots.
Mounting the wind-winged path, he went along the route of Fire; reaching the path of the Sun, the god vanished there.
Then all the wives of the Daśārhas, those of Āhuka, and the renowned Yaśodā, queen of Nanda, gathered together.
The illustrious Revatī, the devoted Rukmiṇī, Satyā, Jāmbavatī, both Gāndhārī and Śiṃśumāpi were there.
Viśokā, Lakṣaṇā, Sumitrā, Ketumā, and the other wives of Vāsudeva, together with Śrī, also came at that time.
Desiring to behold the majesty of the great-souled Keśava, delighted, they went to the assembly to see Acyuta.
Devakī, foremost among all goddesses, and Rohiṇī at her side, saw Kṛṣṇa, the god, seated with the wielder of the plough.
They first approached Rohiṇī and offered her respect; then Rāma and Keśava respectfully greeted Devakī.
Devakī shone even more with her two bull-eyed sons, just as Aditi shines with Mitra and Varuṇa.
Then, in a moment, the daughter of Yashoda arrived, shining brilliantly with her radiance, O Bharata.
She is called Ekanga, the maiden of changing forms; for her sake, the Supreme Person slew Kamsa and his followers.
Then the blessed Rama approached that radiant woman, and, smelling her head, took her by the left hand.
And Madhava, having come near her there as to a dear friend, took her by the right hand with his fingertips.
In the midst of the assembly, they saw her, the sister of Rama and Krishna, shining like a golden lotus beside the best of lotuses.
Then, with unbroken rice, flowers, and clarified butter, the delighted Vrishnis showered Sankarshana and Janardana.
