मत्तबर्हिणनादाश्च कोकिलाश्च मदावहाः। बभूवुः परमोपेताः सर्वे जगति पर्वताः
The calls of intoxicated peacocks and the sweet songs of cuckoos, filled with passion, resounded; all the mountains in the world were present there in their highest form.
तत्रैव गजयूथानि तत्र गोमहिषास्तथा। निवासाश्च कृतास्तत्र वराहा मृगपक्षिणाम्
There were herds of elephants, and also cows and buffaloes; dwellings were made there for boars, deer, and birds.
विश्वकर्मकृतः शैलः प्राकारस्तत्र वेश्मनि। व्यक्तकिष्कुशतोद्यामः सुधारससमप्रभः
A mountain wall crafted by Viśvakarman surrounded that mansion, its gardens clearly marked by kiṣku and śata trees, shining like nectar.
तेन ते च महाशैलाः सरितश्च सरांसि च। परिक्षिप्तानि वै तस्य वनान्युपवनानि च
By that, the great mountains, rivers, and lakes, as well as the forests and groves, were all enclosed.
एवमालोकयाञ्चक्रुर्द्वारकामृषभास्त्रयः। उपेन्द्रबलदेवौ च वासवश्च महायशाः
Thus the three bulls among men—Upendra, Balarāma, and the illustrious Indra—gazed upon Dvārakā.
ततस्तं पाण्डरं शौरिर्मूर्ध्नि तिष्ठन्गरुत्मतः। प्रीतः शङ्खमुपाध्मासीद्द्विषतां रोमहर्षणम्
Then Śauri, standing atop the white chariot adorned with a banner, joyfully blew his conch, causing the hair of his enemies to stand on end.
तस्य शङ्खस्य शब्देन सारश्चुक्षुभे भृशम्। ररास च नभः सर्वं तच्चित्रमभवत्तदा
At the sound of that conch, the lake was greatly agitated, and the whole sky resounded; it was a wondrous sight.
पाञ्चजन्यस्य निर्घोषं निशम्य कुकुरान्दकाः। प्रीयमाणाः समाजग्मुरालोक्य मधुसूदनम्
Hearing the roar of the Pāñcajanya conch, the Kukura and Andhaka clans, delighted, came together to behold Madhusūdana.
वसुदेवं पुरस्कृत्य वेणुशङ्खरवैः सह। उग्रसेनो ययौ राजा वासुदेवनिवेशनम्
King Ugrasena, accompanied by the sounds of flutes and conch shells, set out for Vasudeva's residence, placing Vasudeva at the forefront.
आनन्दितुं पर्यचन्स्वेषु वेश्मसु देवकी। रोहिणी च ययौ देशमाहुकस्य च याः स्त्रियः
Devakī, wishing to rejoice, went through her own chambers, and Rohiṇī also went, along with the wives of Āhuka, to that place.
हता ब्रह्मद्विषः सर्वे जयन्त्यन्धकवृष्णयटः। एवमुक्तः सह स्त्रीभिरक्षतैर्मधुसूदनः
All the haters of Brahman have been slain; thus spoke Madhusūdana, surrounded by uninjured women of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis.
ततः शौरिः सुपर्णेन स्वं निवेशनमभ्ययात्। चकाराथ यथोद्देशमीश्वरो मणिपर्वतम्
Then Śauri, borne by Suparṇa, went to his own residence; and the Lord made Maṇiparvata as was fitting.
ततो धनानि रत्नानि सभायां मधुसूदनः। निधाय पुण्डरीकाक्षः पितुर्दर्शनलालसः
Then Madhusūdana, lotus-eyed, longing to see his father, deposited wealth and jewels in the assembly hall.
ततः सान्दीपिनिं पूर्वं ब्राह्मणं चापि भारत। यथान्यायं वासुदेव उपस्पृष्ट्वा महायशाः
Then, O Bhārata, the illustrious Vāsudeva, having ritually purified himself, first approached Sāndīpani and also the Brāhmaṇa.
ववन्दे पृथुताम्राक्षः प्रीयमाणो महायशाः। तथाऽश्रुपरिपूर्णाक्षमानन्दभृतचेतसम्
The illustrious one, broad and copper-eyed, joyfully bowed, as did those whose hearts were filled with happiness and whose eyes brimmed with tears.
ववन्दे सह रामेण पितरं वासवानुजः। ताभ्यां च मूर्ध्न्युपाघ्रातः केशवः परवीरहा
Vāsudeva, together with Rāma, bowed to their father; Keśava, destroyer of enemy heroes, was embraced on the head by both.
यथाश्रेष्ठमुपागम्य सात्वतान्यदुनन्दनः। सर्वेषां नाम जग्राह दाशार्हाणामधोक्षजः
Having approached each according to their rank, the son of Yadu, the transcendent one, greeted all the Daśārhas by name.
ततः सर्वाणि वित्तानि सर्वरत्नमयानि च। व्यभजत्तानि तेभ्योऽथ सर्वेभ्यो यदुनन्दनः
Then the son of Yadu distributed all the wealth and all the jewels among them all.
सा केशवमहामात्रैर्महेन्द्रप्रतिमैः सभा। शुशुभे वृष्णिशार्दूलैः सिंहैरिव गिरेर्गुहा
That assembly, with Keśava's great ministers, resembling Indra, shone with the Vṛṣṇi tigers, like lions in a mountain cave.
अथासनगतान्सर्वानुवाच विबुधाधिपः। शुभया हर्षयन्वाचा महेन्द्रस्तान्महायशाः। कुकुरान्धकमुख्यांश्च तं च राजानमाहुकम्
Then the lord of the gods, Indra of great fame, gladdening them with auspicious words, addressed all those seated, the chief Kukuras, Andhakas, and King Āhuka.
यदर्थं जन्म कृष्णस्य मानुषेषु महात्मनः। यत्कृतं वासुदेवेन तद्वक्ष्यामि समासतः
I shall briefly tell you the purpose for which the great-souled Kṛṣṇa was born among men, and what Vāsudeva has accomplished.
अयं शतसहस्राणि दानवानामरिन्दमः। निहय् पुण्डरीकाक्षः पातालविवरं ययौ
This slayer of foes, lotus-eyed, has slain hundreds of thousands of Dānavas and gone to the chasm of the underworld.
यच्च नाधिगतं पूर्वैः प्रह्लादबलिशम्बरैः। तदिदं शौरिणा वित्तं प्रापितं भवतामिह
What was not attained before by Prahlāda, Bali, or Śambara, has now been achieved here by Śauri for your sake.
सपाशं मुरमाक्रमय् पाञ्चजन्यं च धीमता। शिलासङ्घानतिक्रम्य निशुम्भः सगणो हतः
The wise one subdued Mura with his noose, seized Pāñcajanya, and, overcoming heaps of rocks, slew Niśumbha along with his followers.
हयग्रीवश्च विक्रान्तो दानवो निहतो बली। मथितश्च मृधे भौमः कुण्डले चाहृते पुनः
The mighty Dānava Hayagrīva was slain, and Bhauma was crushed in battle, his earrings taken once again.
पुनर्बाणवधे शौरिमादित्या वसुभिः सह। मन्मुखा आगमिष्यन्ति साध्याश्च मधुसूदनम्
Again, at the slaying of Bāṇa, Śauri, along with the Ādityas and Vasus, will be approached by the Sādhyas, led by me, O Madhusūdana.
एवमुक्त्वा ततः सर्वानामन्त्र्य कुकुरान्धकान्। सस्वजे रामकृष्णौ च वसुदेवं च वासवः
Having spoken thus, Vāsava took leave of all the Kukuras and Andhakas, and embraced Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, and Vasudeva.
प्रद्युम्नसाम्बप्रमुखाननिरूद्धं च सारणम्। बभ्रुं झल्लिं गदं भानुं चारुदेष्णं च वृत्रहा
He also embraced Pradyumna, Sāmba, Aniruddha, Sāraṇa, Babhru, Jhalli, Gada, Bhānu, and Cārudeṣṇa, with Vṛtrahā.
सत्कृत्य सारणाक्रूरौ पुनराभाष्य सात्यकिम्। सस्वजे वृष्णिराजानमाहुकं कुकुराधिपम्। भोजं च कृतवर्णाणमन्यांश्चान्दकवृष्णिषु
After honoring Sāraṇa and Akrūra, and again addressing Sātyaki, he embraced the king of the Vṛṣṇis, Āhuka, lord of the Kukuras, Kṛtavarṇa of the Bhojas, and other Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis.
आमन्त्र्य देवप्रवरैर्वासवो वासवानुजम्। ततः श्वेताचलप्रख्यं गजमैरावतं प्रभुः
Taking leave, Vāsava, best among the gods, addressed Vāsudeva, and then the lord mounted Airāvata, the elephant resembling a white mountain.
