सञ्जहार महाभ्राणि वैश्वानरपथं गतः। ग्रहनक्षत्रताराणां सप्तर्षीणां स्वतेजसा
He carried away great clouds as he moved along the path of fire, outshining the planets, stars, and the Seven Sages with his own brilliance.
प्रभाजालमतिक्रम्य चाश्विनोश्च परन्तप। प्राप्य पुण्यतमं स्थानं देवलोकमरिन्दमः
Surpassing the net of light of the Aśvins, O scorcher of foes, he reached the most sacred place—the world of the gods.
शक्रसद्म समासाद्य चावरुह्य जनार्दनः। सोऽभिवाद्यादितेः पादावर्चितः सर्वदैवतैः। ब्रह्मदक्षपुरोगैश्च प्रजापतिभिरेव च
Arriving at Indra's abode, Janārdana descended and, after bowing to Aditi's feet, was worshipped by all the gods and by the Prajāpatis led by Brahmā and Dakṣa.
अदितेः कुण्डले दिव्ये ददावथ तदा विभुः। रत्नान च परार्घ्याणि रामेण सह केशवः
Then the mighty one gave Aditi her divine earrings, and Keśava, together with Rāma, presented her with jewels of the highest value.
प्रतिगृह्य च तत्सर्वमदितिर्वासवानुजम्। पूजयामास दाशार्हं रामं च विगतज्वरा
Having received all those gifts, Aditi, free from distress, honored the Dāśārha and Rāma, the younger brother of Vāsava.
शची महेन्द्रमहिषी कृष्णस्य महिषीं तदा। सत्यभामां तु सङ्गृह्य अदित्यै सा न्यवेदयत्
Śacī, the queen of Mahendra, taking Kṛṣṇa's queen Satyabhāmā, then presented her to Aditi.
सा तस्याः सत्यभामायाः कृष्णाप्रियचिकीर्षया। वरं प्रादाद्देवमाता सत्यायै विगतज्वरा
Then the mother of the gods, wishing to please Krishna, joyfully granted Satyabhama a boon, free from all distress.
जरां न यास्यसि शुभे यावत्कृष्णोऽस्ति भूतले। सर्वगन्धगुणोपेता भविष्यसि वरानने
O lovely-faced one, as long as Krishna remains on earth, you shall not experience old age, and you shall possess all the qualities of fragrance and beauty.
विसृज्य सत्यभामा वै पौलोमीं च सुमध्यमा। शच्यापि समनुज्ञाता ययौ कृष्णनिवेशनम्
Having taken leave of Satyabhama and the slender-waisted Paulomi, and permitted by Shachi as well, she went to Krishna's abode.
सम्पूज्यमानस्त्रिदशैर्महर्षिगणसेवितः। द्वारकां प्रययौ कृष्णो देवलोकादरिन्दमः
Honored by the gods and attended by great sages, Krishna, subduer of foes, departed from the world of the gods and went to Dvaraka.
शीघ्रादेत्य महाबाहुर्दीर्घमध्वानमच्युतः। वर्घमानपुरद्वारमाससाद सुरोत्तमः
Swiftly arriving after a long journey, the mighty-armed, faultless one, the best among the gods, reached the city gate.
तां पुरी द्वारकीं दृष्ट्वा विभुर्नारायणो हरिः। हृष्टः सर्वार्थसम्पन्नः प्रवेष्टुमुपचक्रमे
Seeing that city of Dvaraka, the all-pervading Narayana, Hari, filled with joy and all prosperity, prepared to enter.
सोऽपश्यद्वृक्षषण्डांश्च रम्यान्नानाजनान्वहून्। समन्ततो द्वारवत्यां नानापुष्पफलान्वितान्
He beheld groves of trees, delightful and abundant with various people, all around Dvaraka, bearing many kinds of flowers and fruits.
अर्कचन्द्रप्रतीकाशैर्मेरुकूटनिभैर्गृहैः। द्वारकामावृतां रम्यां सुकृतां विश्वकर्मणा
He saw the beautiful city of Dvaraka, encircled by houses shining like the sun and moon, resembling the peaks of Mount Meru, skillfully built by Vishvakarma.
पद्मषण्डाकुलाभिश्च हंससेवितवारिभिः। गङ्गासिन्धुप्रकाशाभिः परिघाभिरलङ्कृताम्
Adorned with lotus-filled ponds frequented by swans, and moats shining like the Ganga and Sindhu rivers, the city was further embellished with splendid ramparts.
प्राकारेणार्कवर्णेन पाण्डरेण विराजिताम्। वियन्मूर्ध्नि निविष्टेन द्यामिवाभ्रपरिच्छदाम्
Radiant with a golden and white rampart, set high as if touching the sky, the city appeared like the heavens adorned with clouds.
नन्दनप्रतिमैश्वापि मिश्रकप्रतिमैर्वनैः। तत्र सा विहिता साक्षान्नगरी विश्वकर्मणा
There, that city was established by Vishvakarma himself, with groves resembling Nandana and other celestial forests.
काञ्चनैर्मणिसोपानैरुपेता जनहर्षिणी। गीतघोषमहाघोषैः प्रसादप्रवरैः शुभा
It was adorned with golden and jeweled stairways, delightful to the people, resounding with the great sounds of songs and music, and graced with splendid palaces.
तस्मिन्पुरवारश्रेष्ठे दाशार्हाणां यशस्विनाम्। नेश्मानि जहृषे दृष्ट्वा भगवान्पाकशासनः
In that foremost and excellent city of the illustrious Dasharhas, the blessed lord, slayer of Paka, rejoiced at the sight of its mansions.
समुच्छ्रितपताकानि पारिप्लवनिभानि च। काञ्चनाभानि भाखन्ति मेरुकूटनिभानि च
He saw banners raised high, fluttering like waves, shining with golden brilliance, and resembling the peaks of Mount Meru.
सुधापाण्डरशृङ्गैश्च शातकुम्भपरिच्छदैः। रत्नसानुमहाशृङ्गैः सर्वरत्नसमन्वितैः?
With whitewashed towers like nectar, adorned with golden decorations, and great jeweled peaks filled with all kinds of gems.
सहर्म्यैः सार्धचन्द्रैश्च सनिर्यूहैः सपञ्ज्अरैः। सयन्त्रगृहसंबाधैः सधातुभिरिवाद्रिभिः
With mansions having crescent-shaped roofs, balconies, and cages, crowded with mechanical houses, like mountains with veins of ore.
मणिकाञ्चनभ्ॐऐश्च सुधामृष्टतलैस्तथा। जाम्बूनदमयद्वारैर्वैडूर्यविकृतार्गलैः
With floors washed with nectar, adorned with jeweled and golden thresholds, and doors made of Jambunada gold with bolts of lapis lazuli.
सर्वर्तुसुखसंस्यर्शैर्महाधनपरिच्छदैः। रम्यसानुगृहैः शृङ्गैर्विचित्रैरिव पर्वतैः
With houses comfortable in all seasons, furnished with great wealth, and beautiful mansions with peaks as varied as mountains.
पञ्चवर्णसवर्णैश्च पुष्पवृष्टिसमप्रभैः। तुल्यैः पर्जन्यनिर्घोषैर्ह्रादैर्भोगवती यथा
With flowers of five colors, matching in hue and brilliance to showers of blossoms, and with sounds like the thunder of clouds, Bhogavati shone forth.
कृष्णध्वजोपवाह्यैश्च दाशार्हायुधरोहितैः। वृष्णिवीरमयूरैश्च स्त्रीसहस्रप्रजाकुलैः
With chariots adorned with black banners, bearing the weapons of the Dasharhas, and with peacocks made of Vṛṣṇi heroes, teeming with thousands of women and offspring.
वासुदेवैन्द्रपर्जन्यैर्गृहमेघैरलङ्कृता। ददृशे द्वारकाऽतीव मेघैर्द्यैरिव संवृता
Adorned with house-clouds named after Vāsudeva, Indra, and Parjanya, Dvārakā appeared exceedingly covered, as if veiled by clouds in the sky.
साक्षाद्भगवतो वेश्म विहितं विश्वकर्मणा। ददृशुर्वासुदेवस्य चतुर्योजनमायतम्
They beheld the mansion of Bhagavan, constructed by Viśvakarma himself, the residence of Vāsudeva, stretching four yojanas in length.
तावदेव सुविस्तीर्णं सुसम्पूर्णं महाधनैः। प्रासादवरसम्पन्नं युक्तं जगति पर्वतैः
So vast and expansive, filled with great wealth, furnished with splendid palaces, and set amidst mountains upon the earth.
यं चकार महाभागस्त्वष्टा वासवचोदितः। प्रासादं हेमनाभस्य सर्वतो योजनायतम्
That palace, created by the illustrious Tvaṣṭā at the command of Vāsava, with a golden hub, extended a yojana in every direction.
