कुण्डले हृतवान्दर्पात्ततस्ते निहतः सुतः। नैव मन्युस्त्वया कार्यो यत्कृतं मयि भामिनि
Out of pride, Kundale was taken, and so your son was slain; do not be angry with me, O beautiful one, for what I have done.
त्वत्प्रभावाच्च ते पुत्रो लब्धवान्गतिमुत्तमाम्। तस्माद्गच्छ महाभागे भारावतरणं कृतम्
By your power, your son attained the highest state; therefore, depart, O noble lady, the burden has been lifted.
निहत्य नरकं भौमं सत्यभामासहायवान्। सहितो लोकपालैश्च ददर्श नरकालयम्
Having slain Naraka, the Bhauma, accompanied by Satyabhama, and with the guardians of the worlds, he beheld Naraka's abode.
अथास्य गृहमासाद्य नारकस्य महात्मनः। ददर्श धनमक्षय्यं रत्नानि विविधानि च
Then, reaching the house of the great Naraka, he saw inexhaustible wealth and various gems.
मणिमुक्ताप्रवालानि वैडूर्यविकृतानि च। विस्ताराल्पांश्चार्कमणीन्विपुलान्स्फाटिकानपि
He saw pearls, rubies, coral, transformed beryl, small and large sunstones, and also great crystals.
जाम्बूनदमयान्येव शातकुम्भमयानि च। प्रदीप्तज्वलनाभानि शीतरश्मिप्रभाणि च
There were objects of jambunada gold and of pure gold, blazing like fire and shining with cool rays.
हिरण्यवर्णं रुचिरं श्वेतमभ्यन्तरं गृहम्। तदक्षय्यं गृहे दृष्टं नरकस्य धनं बहु
The house was golden-hued, beautiful, and white within; in that house, he saw Naraka's inexhaustible wealth.
न हि राज्ञः कुबेरस्य तावद्धनसमुच्छ्रयः। दृष्टपूर्वः पुरा साक्षान्महेन्द्रभवनेष्वपि
Never before had such a heap of wealth been seen, not even in the palaces of King Kubera or Mahendra.
हते भौमे निशुम्भे च वासवः सगणोऽब्रवीत्। दाशार्हपतिमासीनमाहृत्य मणिकुण्डले
When Bhauma and Nishumbha were slain, Vasava, with his retinue, approached the seated chief of the Dasharhas, bringing the jeweled earrings.
हेमसूत्रा महाकक्ष्यास्तोमरैर्वीर्यशालिनः। विमलानि पताकानि वासांसि विविधानि च
With golden threads, great belts, weapons of valor, pure banners, and various garments.
भीमरूपाश्च मातङ्गाः प्रवालविकृताः कुथाः। ते च विंशतिसाहस्रा द्वास्तावत्यः करेणवः
There were also monstrous elephants, terrifying in form, with red and deformed bodies, and twenty thousand of these two-tusked beasts.
अष्टौ शतसहस्राणि देशजाश्चोत्तमा हयाः। गोभिश्चाविकृतैर्यावत्कामात्तव जनार्दन
There were eight hundred thousand excellent horses of native breeds, and as many unblemished cows as you desire, O Janardana.
एतत्ते प्रापयिष्याणि वृष्ण्यावासमरिन्दम। वसु यत्रिषु लोकेषु धर्मेणावर्जितं त्वया
All this wealth, which you have righteously acquired in the worlds, O subduer of enemies, I shall send to you, O chief of the Vrishnis.
देवगन्धर्वरत्नानि दैतेयासुरजानि च। यानि सन्ति हिरण्यानि नरकस्य निवेशने
The treasures of the gods and Gandharvas, and those belonging to Daityas and Asuras, all the gold that exists in Naraka's palace—
एतत्तु गरुडे सर्वं क्षिप्रमारोप्य वासवः। दार्शार्हपतिना सार्धमुपायान्मणिपर्वतम्
All this, Vasava quickly loaded onto Garuda and, together with the lord of the Dasharhas, set out for Mount Mani.
चित्रग्रथितमेघाभः प्रबभौ मणिपर्वतः। हेमचित्रवितानैश्च प्रासादैरुपशोभितः
Mount Mani shone, resembling a mass of intricately woven clouds, adorned with palaces decorated with golden canopies.
हर्म्याणि च विशालानि मणिसोपानवन्ति च। तत्रस्था वरवर्णिन्यो ददृशुर्मधुसूदनम्
There, splendid mansions with jeweled stairways stood, and the women of radiant beauty who dwelled there beheld Madhusudana.
गन्धर्वसुरमुख्यानां प्रिया दुहितरस्तदा। त्रिविष्टपसमे देशे तिष्ठन्तमपराजितम्
At that time, the beloved daughters of the foremost among Gandharvas and Asuras, in a place like heaven, saw the unconquered one standing.
परिवव्रुर्महाबाहुमेकवेणीधराः स्त्रियः। पर्वाः काषायवासिन्यः सर्वाश्च नियतेन्द्रियाः
Women with single braids, wearing ochre garments, all self-controlled, surrounded the mighty-armed one.
व्रतसन्तापजः शोके नात्र कश्चिदपीडयत्। अरजांसि च वासांसि बिभ्रत्यः कौशिकान्यपि
No one there was afflicted by grief born of austerity or sorrow; they wore clean garments, some even of silk.
समेत्य यदुसिंहस्य चक्रुरस्याञ्जलिं स्त्रियः। ऊचुश्चैनं हृषीकेशं सर्वास्ताः कमलेक्षणाः
The women gathered and offered respectful salutations to the lion of the Yadus, and all those lotus-eyed ladies addressed Hrishikesha.
नारदेन समाख्यातमस्माकं पुरुषोत्तम। आगमिष्यति गोविन्दः सुरकार्यार्थसिद्धये
"O best of men, Narada has told us that Govinda will come for the accomplishment of the gods' purpose."
सोऽसुरं नरकं हत्वा निशुम्भं मुरमेव च। भौमं च सपरीवारं हयग्रीवं च दानवम्
"He will slay the asura Naraka, as well as Nishumbha, Mura, Bhauma with his retinue, and the demon Hayagriva."
तथा पञ्चजनं चैव प्राप्स्यते धनमक्षयम्। सोऽचिरेणैव कालेन युष्मन्मोक्ता भविष्यति
"Likewise, he will also defeat Panchajana and obtain inexhaustible wealth; soon, he will set you free."
एवमुक्त्वागमद्धीरो देवर्षिर्नारदस्तथा। त्वां चिन्तयानाः सततं तपो घोरमुपास्महे
Having spoken thus, the steadfast sage Narada departed; we, constantly meditating on you, practiced severe austerities.
कालेऽतीते महाबाहुं कदा द्रक्ष्याम माधवम्। इत्येवं हृदि सङ्कल्पं कृत्वा पुरुषसत्तम। तपश्चराम सततं रक्ष्यमाणा हि दानवैः
"When will we see Madhava, the mighty-armed one, after time has passed?" With this resolve in our hearts, O best of men, we constantly performed austerities, though guarded by the Danavas.
ततोऽस्मत्प्रियकामार्थं भगवान्मारुतोऽब्रवीत्। यथोक्तं नारदेनाथ न चिरात्तद्भविष्यति
Then, for the sake of our dearest wish, the blessed Wind-god spoke: "As Narada has said, it will soon come to pass."
तासां परमनारीणामृषभाक्षं पुरः स्थितम्। ददृशुर्देवगन्धर्वा गृष्टीनामिव गोपतिम्
The gods and Gandharvas saw before them the bull-eyed one standing among those supreme women, like a lord of herds among cows.
तस्य चन्द्रोपमं वक्त्रमुदीक्ष्य मुदितेन्द्रियाः। सम्प्रहृष्टा महाबाहुमिदं वचनमब्रुवन्
Seeing his face radiant like the moon, their senses delighted, they joyfully spoke these words to the mighty-armed one:
सत्यव्रत पुरा वायुरिदमस्मानिहाब्रवीत्। सर्वभूतहितज्ञश्च महर्षिरपि नारदः
O Satyavrata, long ago the wind-god said this to us here, and so did the great sage Nārada, knower of the welfare of all beings.
