यः समाः सर्वधर्मज्ञश्चतुर्दश वने वसन। लक्ष्मणानुचरो रामः सर्वभूतहिते रतः
He, knowledgeable in all duties, dwelt in the forest for fourteen years; Rāma, accompanied by Lakṣmaṇa, was devoted to the welfare of all beings.
चतुर्दश वने तीर्त्वा तदा वर्षाणि भारत। रूपिणी यस्य पार्श्वस्था सीतेत्यभिहिता जनैः
Having completed fourteen years in the forest, O Bhārata, she who stood by his side, called Sītā by the people, was of beautiful form.
पूर्वोचितत्वात्सा लक्ष्मीर्भर्तारमनुशोचति। जनस्थाने वसन्कार्यं त्रिदशानां चकार सः
Because of her former attachment, that Lakṣmī grieved for her husband; dwelling in Janasthāna, he performed the work of the gods.
मारीचं दूषणं हुत्वा खरं त्रिशिरसं तथा। चतुर्दश सहस्राणि रक्षसां घोरकर्मणाम्
He slew Mārīca, Dūṣaṇa, Khara, and Triśiras; fourteen thousand rākṣasas of terrible deeds.
जघान रामो धर्मात्मा प्रजानां हितकाम्यय। विराधं च कबन्धं च राक्षसौ घोरकर्मिणौ
Rāma, righteous in soul, slew them for the welfare of the people; and also Virādha and Kabandha, rākṣasas of dreadful actions.
जघान च तदा रामो गन्धर्वौ शाषविक्षतौ। स रावणस्य भगिनीनासाच्छेदमकारयत्
Then Rāma slew the Gandharvas Śāṣa and Vikṣata; he also cut off the nose of Rāvaṇa's sister.
भार्यावियोगं तं प्राप्य मृगयन्व्यचरद्वनम्। स तस्मादृश्यमूकं तु गत्वा पम्पामतीत्य च
Having suffered the loss of his wife, he wandered the forest in search of her; then, passing through Pampa, he reached Rishyamuka.
सुग्रीवं मारुतिं दृष्ट्वा चक्रे मैत्रीं तयोः स वै। अथ गत्वा स किष्किन्धां सुग्रीवेण तदा सह
There, seeing Sugriva and Hanuman, he formed a friendship with them; then, together with Sugriva, he went to Kishkindha.
निहत्य वालिनं युद्धे वानरेद्रं महाबलम्। अभ्यपिञ्चत्तदा रामः सुग्रीवं वानरेश्वरम्
Having slain Vali, the mighty lord of the monkeys, in battle, Rama then installed Sugriva as king of the monkeys.
ततः स वीर्यवान्राजंस्त्वरया वै समुत्सुकः। विचित्य वायुपुत्रेण लङ्कादेशं निवेदितः
Then that valiant king, eager and impatient, was informed by the son of the wind, Hanuman, after searching the region of Lanka.
मेतुं वद्ध्वा समुद्रस्य वानरैः स समुत्सुकः। सीतायाः पदमन्विच्छन्रामो लङ्कां विवेश वै
Impatient to find Sita, he had a bridge built across the ocean by the monkeys; thus Rama entered Lanka in search of Sita.
देवोरगगणानां हि यक्षराक्षसपक्षिणाम्। तत्रावद्यं राक्षसेन्द्रं रावणं युधि दुर्जयम्
There, among the hosts of gods, serpents, yakshas, rakshasas, and birds, Rama fought and slew Ravana, the king of the rakshasas, who was unconquerable in battle.
युक्तं राक्षसकोटीभिर्भिन्नाञ्जनचयोपमम्। दुर्निरीक्ष्यं सुरगणैर्वरदानेन दर्पितम्
Surrounded by millions of rakshasas, dark as masses of collyrium, terrifying even to the gods, and made arrogant by boons, he was difficult to behold.
जघान सचिवैः सार्धं सान्वयं रावणं रणे
Rama slew Ravana in battle, together with his ministers and his lineage.
त्रैलोक्यकण्टकं वीरं महाकायं महाबलम्। रावमं सगणं हत्वा रामो भूतपतिः पुरा
Having slain Ravana, the mighty and heroic thorn of the three worlds, along with his followers, Rama, lord of beings, did so in ancient times.
लङ्कायां तं महात्मानं राक्षसेन्द्रं विभीषणम्। अभिषिच्य ततो राम अमरत्वं ददौ तदा
Then Rama anointed Vibhishana, the great-souled king of the rakshasas, in Lanka, and granted him immortality.
आरुह्य पुष्पकं रामः सीतामादाय पाण्डव। सबलं स्वपुरं गत्वा धर्मराज्यमपालयत्
Ascending the Pushpaka chariot with Sita, O Pandava, Rama returned to his own city with his forces and upheld righteous rule.
दानवो लवणो नाम मधोः पुत्रो महाबलः। शत्रुघ्नेन हतो राजंस्तदा रामस्य शासनात्
The powerful demon named Lavana, son of Madhu, was slain by Shatrughna at Rama's command.
एवं बहूनि कर्माणि कृत्वा लोकहिताय सः। राजं चकार विधिवद्रामो धर्मभृतां वरः
Thus, performing many deeds for the welfare of the world, Rama, foremost among the upholders of dharma, ruled as king according to law.
शताश्वमेधानाजह्रे ज्योतिरुक्थ्यान्निरर्गलान्। नाश्रूयन्ताशुभा वाचो नात्ययः प्राणिनां तदा
He performed hundreds of uninterrupted Ashvamedha sacrifices with abundant gifts; at that time, no inauspicious words were heard, nor did any living being suffer harm.
न दस्युजं भयं चासीद्रामे राज्यं प्रशसति। ऋषीणां देवतानां च मनुष्याणां तथैव च
While Rama ruled the kingdom, there was no fear from thieves for sages, gods, or humans.
पृथिव्यां धार्मिकाः सर्वे रामे राज्यं प्रशासति। नाधर्मिष्ठो नरः कश्चिद्बभूव प्राणिनां क्वचित्

Having slain Ravana along with his followers, the unconquerable one ascended to heaven; thus is the renowned manifestation of the great-souled son of Dasharatha.
