तेन तत्खण्डवं दावं तर्पितं जातवेदसे। विजित्य तरसा शक्रं युधि देवगणैः सह
By him, that burning of Khāṇḍava was offered to Jātavedas; having conquered Indra with the hosts of gods in battle by force.
लब्धान्यस्त्राणि दिव्यानि तर्पयित्वा हुताशनम्। तेन लब्धा महाराज दुर्लभा दैवतैरपि
Having obtained divine weapons by satisfying the fire-god, he, O king, gained what even the gods find hard to attain.
वासुदेवस्य भगिनी सुभद्रा नाम विश्रुता। अर्जुनस्यानुजो राजन्नकुलश्चेति विश्रुतः
Vāsudeva's sister, renowned as Subhadrā, and Arjuna's younger brother, O king, is known as Nakula.
दर्शनीयतमो लोके मूर्तिमानिव मन्मथः। तस्यानुजो महातेजाः सहदेव इति श्रुतः
The most handsome in the world, as if embodied desire itself; his younger brother, famed for his great energy, is known as Sahadeva.
तेनाहं प्रेषितो राजन्कुमारेण समो रणे। अहं घटोत्कचो नाम भीमसेनसुतो बली
By him I was sent, O king, by that prince who is my equal in battle; I am Ghaṭotkaca by name, the mighty son of Bhīmasena.
मम माता महाभागा हिडिम्बा नाम राक्षसी। पार्थानामुपकारार्थं चरामि पृथिवीमिमाम्
My mother, greatly fortunate, is the rākṣasī named Hiḍimbā; for the sake of aiding the Pārthas, I roam this earth.
आसीत्पृथिव्याः सर्वस्या महीपालो युधिष्ठिरः। राजसूयं क्रतुश्रेष्ठमाहर्तुमुपचक्रमे
Yudhiṣṭhira was the sovereign of the entire earth; he undertook the greatest of sacrifices, the Rājasūya.
सन्दिदेश च स भ्रातृन्करार्थं सर्वतोदिशम्। वृष्णिवीरेण सहितः सन्दिदेशानुजान्नृपः
He dispatched his brothers in all directions to collect tribute, accompanied by the hero of the Vṛṣṇis, and sent his younger brothers as well, O king.
उदीचीमर्जुनस्तूर्णं गत्वा मेरोरथोत्तमः। गत्वा शतसहस्राणि योजनानि महाबलः
Arjuna, the best of charioteers, swiftly went north, traversing hundreds of thousands of yojanas with his great strength.
त्वा सर्वान्नृपान्युद्धे हत्वा च तरसा वशी। स्वर्गद्वारमुपागम्य रत्नान्यादाय वै भृशम्
Having conquered all the kings in battle by force, he gained control and, reaching the gate of heaven, took abundant jewels.
अश्वांश्च विविधान्दिव्यान्सर्वानादाय फल्गुनः। धनं बहुविधं राजन्धर्मपुत्राय वै ददौ
Phālguna took all kinds of divine horses and much wealth, O king, and gave them to Dharmaputra.
भीमसेनो हि राजेन्द्र जित्वा प्राचीं दिशं बलात्। वशे कृत्वा महीपालान्पाण्डवाय धनं ददौ
Bhīmasena, O king, having conquered the eastern direction by force, brought the kings under control and gave wealth to the Pāṇḍava.
दिशं प्रतीचीं नकुलः करार्थं प्रययौ तथा। सहदेवो दिशं याम्यां जित्वा सर्वान्महीक्षितः
Nakula likewise went to the western direction to collect tribute; Sahadeva, having conquered all the rulers in the southern direction.
मां सन्दिदेश राजेन्द्र करार्थमिह सत्कृतः। पार्थानां चरितं तुभ्यं सङ्क्षेपात्समुदाहृतम्
I was sent, O king, to collect tribute here, being honored; thus, I have briefly recounted to you the deeds of the Pārthas.
तमवेक्ष्य महाराज धर्मराजं युधिष्ठिरम्। पावनं राजसूयं च भगवन्तं हरिं प्रभुम्। एतानवेक्ष्य धर्मज्ञ करं दातुमिहार्हसि
O great king, seeing the righteous Yudhishthira, the purifying Rajasuya sacrifice, and the blessed Lord Hari himself, you, knower of righteousness, ought to offer tribute here.
तेन तद्भाषितं श्रुत्वा राक्षसेन्द्रो बिभीषणः। शासनं प्रतिजग्राह धर्मात्मा राक्षसैः सह
Hearing these words, the king of the Rakshasas, Vibhishana, who was devoted to righteousness, accepted the command together with the Rakshasas.
तच्च कृष्णकृतं धीमानित्यमन्यत स प्रभुः। ततो ददौ विचित्राणि कम्बलानि कुथानि च
That wise lord considered it all to be Krishna's doing, and then he gave various splendid blankets and coverlets.
दान्तकाञ्चनपर्यङ्कान्मणिहेमविचित्रितान्। भूषणानि महार्हाणि प्रवालानि मणींश्च सः
He gave couches adorned with ivory and gold, decorated with gems and gold, precious ornaments, coral, and jewels.
काञ्चनानि च भाण्डनि कलशानि घटानि च। कटाहानि विचित्रानि द्रोण्यश्चैव सहस्रशः
He gave golden vessels, pitchers, and jars, as well as many kinds of bowls and thousands of large containers.
राजतानि च भाण्डानि रत्नगर्भांश्च कुण्डलान्। हेमपुष्पानि चान्यानि रुक्ममुख्यानि चापरान्
He gave silver vessels, earrings filled with gems, golden flowers, and other foremost golden objects.
शङ्खांश्च चन्द्रसङ्काशांश्चित्रावर्तविचित्रितान्। यज्ञस्य तोरणे युक्तान्ददौ तालांश्चतुर्दश
He gave conch shells shining like the moon, adorned with beautiful whorls, and fourteen palm trees set up at the gateway of the sacrifice.
रुक्मपङ्कजपुष्पाणि शिबिका मणिभूषिताः। मुकुटानि महार्हाणि रत्नगर्भांश्च कङ्कणान्
He gave golden lotus flowers, palanquins adorned with jewels, precious crowns, and bracelets filled with gems.
चन्दनानि च मुख्यानि वासांसि विविधानि च। स ददौ सहदेवाय तदा राजा विभीषणाः
He gave the finest sandalwood and various garments; at that time, King Vibhishana gave all these to Sahadeva.
तानि सर्वाणि रत्नानि आजह्रुस्ते निशाचराः। अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि समदा रक्तलोचनाः
All those jewels were brought by the night-stalkers, eighty-eight thousand in number, red-eyed and giving them equally.
रत्नान्यादाय सर्वाणि प्रतस्थे स घटोत्कचः। विभीषणं च राजानमभिवाद्य कृताञ्जलिः
Having taken all the jewels, Ghatotkacha set out, after bowing with joined palms to King Vibhishana.
प्रदक्षिणं परीत्यैव निर्जगाम घटोत्कचः। ततो रत्नान्युपादाय हैडिम्बो राक्षसैः सह
After circling him to the right, Ghatotkacha departed; then, taking the jewels, the son of Hidimba left with the Rakshasas.
जगाम तूर्णं लङ्कायाः सहदेवपदं प्रति। आसेदुः पाण्डवं सर्वे लङ्घयित्वा महोदधिम्
He quickly went from Lanka toward Sahadeva; all of them crossed the great ocean and reached the Pandava.
सहदेवो ददर्शाथ रत्नाहारान्निशाचरान्। आगतान्भीमसङ्काशान्हैडिम्बं च तथा नृप
Sahadeva saw the jewel-bearers, the night-stalkers, who had arrived and resembled Bhima, and also the son of Hidimba, O king.
द्रमिला नैऋतान्दृष्ट्वा दुद्रुवुस्ते भयार्दिताः। भैमसेनिस्ततो गत्वा मार्देयं प्राञ्जलिः स्थितः
Seeing the Dravidas and the Rakshasas, they fled, terrified; then Bhimasena's son approached the son of Madri and stood with joined palms.
प्रीतिमानभवद्दृष्ट्वा रत्नौधं तं च पाण्डवः। तं परिष्वज्य पाणिभ्यां दृष्ट्वा तान्प्रीतिमानभूत्
The Pandava was pleased to see that heap of jewels; embracing him with his hands, he was gladdened on seeing them.
