विजिग्ये पुरुषव्याघ्रो नातितीव्रेण कर्मणा। शकांश्च बर्बराश्चैव अजयच्छद्मपूर्वकम्
The tiger among men conquered him without too much effort, and by means of strategy overcame the Śakas and also the Barbaras.
वैदेहस्थस्तु कौन्तेय इन्द्रपर्वतमन्तिकात्। किरातानामधिपतीनजयत्सप्त पाण्डवः
Then the son of Kunti, staying in Videha near Indraparvata, conquered the seven chiefs of the Kirātas.
ततः सुह्यान्प्रसुह्यांश्च सपक्षानतिवीर्यवान्। विजित्य युधि कौन्तेयो मागधानभ्यधाद्बली
After that, the exceedingly powerful son of Kunti, having conquered the Suhyas and Prasuhyas and their allies in battle, advanced against the Magadhas.
दण्डं च दण्डधारं च विजित्य पृथिवीपतीन्। तैरेव सहितैः सर्वैर्गिरिव्रजमुपाद्रवत्
Having subdued Daṇḍa and Daṇḍadhāra and the earth's rulers, he, together with all of them, proceeded to Girivraja.
जारासन्धिं सान्त्वयित्वा करे च विनिवेश्य ह। तैरेव सहितैः सर्वैः कर्णमब्यद्रवद्बली
Having conciliated Jarāsandha and brought him into submission, he, along with all those allies, advanced against Karṇa, the mighty one.
स कम्पयन्निव महीं बलेन चतुङ्गिणा। युयुधे पाण्डवश्रेष्ठः कर्णेनामित्रघातिना
Shaking the earth as it were with his fourfold army, the foremost of the Pāṇḍavas fought with Karṇa, the slayer of foes.
स कर्णं युधि निर्जित्य वशे कृत्वा च भारत। ततो विजिग्ये बलवान्राज्ञः पर्वतवासिनः
Having defeated Karṇa in battle and brought him under his control, O Bhārata, the mighty one then conquered the mountain-dwelling kings.
अथ मोदागिरौ चैव राजानं बलवत्तरम्। पाण्डवो बाहुवीर्येण निजघान महामृधे
Then, on Modāgiri, the son of Pāṇḍu, by the strength of his arms, struck down the very powerful king in a great battle.
ततः पुण्ड्राधिपं वीरं वासुदेवं समाययौ। `इदानीं वृष्णिवीरेण न योत्स्यामीति पौण्ड्रकः
After that, the heroic lord of Puṇḍra approached Vāsudeva, saying, 'Now I will not fight with the hero of the Vṛṣṇis,' thus spoke Pauṇḍraka.
कृष्णस्य भुजसंत्रासात्करमाशु ददौ नृपः'। कौशिकीकच्छनिलयं राजानं च महौजसम्
Out of fear of Kṛṣṇa’s arm, the king quickly paid tribute, as did the mighty king dwelling in the reeds of the Kauśikī.
उभौ बलभृतौ वीरावुमौ तीव्रपराक्रमौ। निर्जित्याजौ महाराज वङ्गराजमुपाद्रवत्
Both those mighty warriors, both strong and fierce in valor, having conquered in battle, O great king, advanced upon the king of Vaṅga.
समुद्रसेन निर्जित्य चन्द्रसेनं च पार्थिवम्। ताम्रलिप्तं च राजानं कर्वटाधिपतिं तथा
He defeated Samudrasena and also the king Candrasena, as well as the king of Tāmralipta and the lord of Karvaṭa.
सुह्यानामधिपं चैव ये च सागरवासिनः। सर्वान्म्लेच्छगणांश्चैव विजिग्ये भरतर्षभः
He also conquered the lord of the Suhyas and those who dwell by the sea, and, O bull among the Bhāratas, he subdued all the groups of mlecchas as well.
एवं बहुविधान्देशान्विजित्य पवनात्मजः। सु तेभ्य उपादाय लौहित्यमगद्बली
Thus, having conquered many kinds of lands, the son of the wind, taking tribute from them, became exceedingly strong.
स सर्वान्म्लेच्छनृपतीन्सागरानूपवासिनः। करमाहारयामास रत्नानि विविधानि च
He brought tribute from all the mleccha kings who dwell along the sea’s edge, and also brought various kinds of jewels.
चन्दनागुरुवस्त्राणि मणिमौक्तिककम्बलम्। काञ्चनं रजतं चैव विद्रुमं च महाधनम्
Sandalwood, aloe wood, garments, cloths of pearls and gems, gold and silver, and also coral, great wealth indeed.
ते कोटीशतसङ्ख्येन कौन्तेयं महता तदा। अभ्यवर्षन्महात्मानं धनवर्षेण पाण्डवम्
Then, by the hundreds of crores, they showered upon the great-souled son of Kuntī, the Pāṇḍava, a rain of wealth.
इन्द्रप्रस्थमुपागम्य भीमो भीमपराक्रमः। निवेदयामास तदा धर्मराजाय तद्धनम्
Coming to Indraprastha, Bhīma of terrible prowess then presented all that wealth to King Yudhiṣṭhira.
तथैव सहदेवोऽपि धर्मराजेन पूजितः। महत्या सेनया राजन्प्रययौ दक्षिणां दिशम्
In the same way, Sahadeva, honored by King Yudhiṣṭhira, set out, O king, to the southern direction with a great army.
स शूरसेनान्कार्त्स्न्येन पूर्वमेवाजयत्प्रभुः। मत्स्यराजं च कौरव्यो वशे चक्रे बलाद्बली
He, the mighty one, first conquered the Śūrasenas entirely, and the Kaurava forced the king of the Matsyas into submission by strength.
अधिराजाधिपं चैव दन्तवक्रं महाबलम्। जिगाय करदं चैव कृत्वा राज्ये न्यवेशयत्
He also defeated Dantavakra, the overlord of kings, of great might, and, having made him pay tribute, installed him in his kingdom.
सुकुमारं वशे चक्रे सुमित्रं च नराधिपम्। तथैवापरमत्स्यांश्च व्यजयत्स पटच्चरान्
He brought Sukumāra under his control, and also Sumitra, lord of men; likewise, he subdued the other Matsyas, the Paṭaccaras.
निषादभूमिं गोशृङ्गं पर्वतप्रवरं तथा। तरसैवाजयद्धीमाञ्श्रेणिमन्तं च पार्थिवम्
He swiftly conquered the land of the Niṣādas, Gośṛṅga, the foremost mountain, and the wise one also defeated the king Śreṇimanta.
नरराष्ट्रं च निर्जित्य कुन्तिभोजमुपाद्रवत्। प्रीतिपूर्वं च तस्यासौ प्रतिजग्राह शासनम्
Having conquered the land of men, he approached Kuntibhoja, and with affection, he accepted his command.
ततश्चर्मण्वतीकूले जम्भकस्यात्मजं नृपम्। ददर्श वासुदेवेन शेषितं पूर्ववैरिणा
Then, on the bank of the Carmanvati River, he saw the king, son of Jambhaka, who had been defeated by his former enemy Vasudeva.
चक्रे तेन स सङ्ग्रामं सहदेवेन भारत। स तमाजौ विनिर्जित्य दक्षिणाभिमुखो ययौ
With him, O Bharata, Sahadeva fought a battle; having conquered him in the field, he proceeded southward.
सेकानपरसेकांश्च रत्नानि विविधानि च।। ततस्तेनैव सहितो नर्मदामभितो ययौ
He took Sekana, Aparasekana, and various other jewels; then, together with him, he went towards the Narmada River.
भगदत्तं महाबाहुं क्षत्रियं नरकात्मजम्। अर्जुनाय करं दत्तं श्रुत्वा तत्र न्यवर्तत
Hearing that Bhagadatta, the mighty-armed Kshatriya, son of Naraka, had already paid tribute to Arjuna, he turned back from there.
विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ सैन्येन महतावृतौ। जिगाय समरे वीरावाश्विनेयः प्रतापवान्
The heroic son of Ashvini, endowed with great prowess, defeated the two valiant kings of Avanti, Vinda and Anuvinda, who were surrounded by a great army, in battle.
ततो रत्नान्युपादाय पुरं भोजकटं ययौ। तत्र युद्धमभूद्राजन्दिवसद्वयमच्युत
Then, taking the jewels, he went to the city of Bhojakata; there, O Acyuta, a battle took place for two days.
