अभिसारीं ततो रम्यां विजिग्ये कुरुनन्दनः। उरगावासिनं रम्यं रोचमानं रणेऽजयत्
Then the delight of the Kurus conquered the beautiful Abhisara; he defeated the splendid Uraga residence in battle.
ततः सिंहपुरं रम्यं चित्रायुधसुरक्षितम्। प्राधमद्बलमास्थाय पाकशासनिराहवे
After that, relying on his powerful army, the lord of the Pandavas subdued the charming Simhapura, guarded by warriors with decorated weapons.
ततः सुह्यांश्च चोलांश्च किरीटी पाण्डवर्षभः। सहितः सर्वसैन्येन प्रामथत्कुरुनन्दनः
Then, the crowned bull of the Pandavas, together with his entire army, subdued the Suhya and Chola peoples, O joy of the Kurus.
ततः परमविक्रान्तो बाह्लीकान्पाकशासनिः। महता परिमर्देन वशे चक्रे दुरासदान्
After that, the mighty lord of the Pandavas brought the formidable Bahlika people under his control through great force.
गृहीत्वा तु बलं सारं फल्गुनः पाण्डुनन्दनः। दरदान्सहकाम्भोजैरजयत्पाकशासनिः
Having gathered a strong force, Phalguna, the delight of the Pandus, defeated the Daradas along with the Kambojas.
प्रागुत्तरं दिशं ये च वसन्त्याश्रित्य दस्यवः। निवसन्ति वने ये च तान्सर्वानजयत्प्रभुः
All those robbers who dwell in the eastern and northern directions, and those who live in the forests, the lord subdued them all.
लोहान्परमकाम्भोजानृषिकानुत्तरानपि। सहितांस्तान्महाराज व्यजयत्पाकशासनिः
He conquered the Lohas, the great Kambojas, the Rishikas, and the northern peoples, O king, together with their allies.
ऋषिकेष्वपि सङ्ग्रामे बभूवातिभयङ्करः। तारकामयसङ्काशः परस्त्वृषिकपार्थयोः
In battle with the Rishikas, he became exceedingly terrifying; the opposing Rishika warriors shone like stars and iron.
स विजित्य ततो राजन्नृषिकान्रणमूर्धनि। शुकोदरसमांस्तत्र हयानष्टौ समानयत्
Having conquered the Rishikas on the battlefield, O king, he brought eight horses there, equal to Shukodara in strength.
मयूरसदृशानन्यानुत्तरानपरानपि। जवनानाशुगांश्चैव करार्थं समुपानयत्
He brought other swift and fast horses, resembling peacocks, from the northern and other regions for use in his campaign.
स विनिर्जित्य सङ्ग्रामे हिमवन्तं सनिष्कृटम्। श्वेतपर्वतमासाद्य न्यविशत्पुरुषर्षभः
Having conquered the battle and reached the Himalayas with its passes, the foremost of men arrived at the white mountain and rested there.
स श्वेतपर्वतं वीरः समतिक्रम्य वीर्यवान्। देशं किम्पुरुषावासं द्रुमपुत्रेण रक्षितम्
That heroic and powerful one crossed the white mountain and reached the land of the Kimpurushas, guarded by the son of a tree.
महता सन्निपातेन क्षत्रियान्तकरेण ह। अजयत्पाण्डवश्रेष्ठः करे चैनं न्यवेशयत्
Through a great and deadly encounter, the foremost Pandava subdued him and brought him under his control.
तं जित्वा हाटकं नाम देशं गुह्यकरक्षितम्। पाकशासनिरव्यग्रः सहसैन्यः समासदत्
Having conquered him, the lord of the Pandavas, undisturbed, approached the region called Hataka, guarded by the Guhyakas, with his army.
तांस्तु सान्त्वेन निर्जित्य मानसं सर उत्तमम्। ऋषिकुल्यास्तथा सर्वा ददर्श कुरुनन्दनः
Having subdued them with conciliation, he reached the excellent lake Manasa, and saw all the Rishi streams, O delight of the Kurus.
सरो मानसमासाद्य हाटकानभितः प्रभुः। गन्धर्वरक्षितं देशमजयत्पाण्डवस्ततः
Arriving at Lake Manasa near the Hatakas, the lord then conquered the region guarded by Gandharvas.
तत्र तित्तिरिकल्माषान्मण्डूकाख्यान्हयोत्तमान्। लेभे स करसमत्यन्तं गन्धर्वनगरात्तदा
There, from the Gandharva city, he obtained the best horses called Tittiri, Kalmasa, and Manduka, for tribute.
हेमकूटमथासाद्य न्यवसत्फल्गुनस्तदा। तं हेमकूटं राजेन्द्र समतिक्रम्य पाण्डवः
Then Phalguna reached Hemakuta and stayed there; O king, the Pandava crossed Hemakuta.
हरिवर्षं विवेशाथ सैन्येन महता वृतः। तत्र पार्थो ददर्शाथ बहूनिह मनोरमान्
He entered the land of Hari-varsha, surrounded by a great army; there Partha beheld many delightful sights.
नगरान्सवनांश्चैव नदीश्च विमलोदकाः। पुरुषान्देवकल्पांश्च नारीश्च प्रियदर्शनाः
He saw cities and groves, and rivers with pure waters, men resembling the gods, and women of charming appearance.
तान्सर्वास्तत्र दृष्ट्वाऽथ मुदा युक्तो धनञ्जयटः। वशे चक्रे स रत्नानि लेभे च सुबहूनि च
Having seen all those there, Dhananjaya was filled with joy; he brought them under his control and obtained many precious jewels.
ततो निषधमासाद्य गिरिस्थानजयत्प्रभुः। अथ राजन्नतिक्रम्य निषधं शैलमायतम्
Then, reaching the mountain region of Nishadha, the mighty one conquered it; O King, after passing beyond the vast Nishadha mountain,
विवेश मध्यमं वर्षं पार्थो दिव्यमिलावृतम्। तत्र दिव्योपमान्दिव्यान्पुरुषान्देवदर्शनान्
Partha entered the central region, adorned with divine groves; there he saw men of divine appearance, like the gods themselves.
अदृष्टपूर्वान्सुभगान्स ददर्श धनञ्जयः। सदनानि च शुभ्राणि नारीश्चाप्सरसंनिभाः
Dhananjaya beheld wondrous and fortunate beings never seen before, splendid dwellings, and women resembling apsaras.
दृष्ट्वा तानजयद्रम्यान्स तैश्च ददृशे तदा। जित्वा च तान्महाभागान्करे च विनिवेश्य च
Having seen those delightful ones, Arjuna was observed by them as well; he conquered those illustrious beings and brought them under his sway.
रत्नान्यादाय दिव्यानि भूषणान्यासनैः सह। उदीचीमथ राजेन्द्र ययौ पार्थो मुदाऽन्वितः
Taking divine jewels and ornaments, along with seats, Partha, filled with joy, then proceeded northward, O King.
स ददर्श ततो मेरुं शिखरीणां प्रभुं महत्। तं काञ्चनमयं दिव्यं चतुर्वणं दुरासदम्
Thereafter he beheld Meru, the lord of peaks, vast and golden, divine, four-sided, and difficult to approach.
उन्नतं शतसाहस्रं योजनानां तु सुस्थितम्। ज्वलन्तमचलं मेरुं तेजोराशिमनुत्तमम्
Lofty, well-established for a hundred thousand yojanas, blazing, the immovable Meru, an unsurpassed mass of brilliance.
आक्षिपन्तं प्रभां भानोः स्वशृङ्गैः काञ्चनोज्ज्वलैः। काञ्चनाभरणं दिव्यदेवगन्धर्वसेवितम्
With its golden, radiant summits seizing the light of the sun, adorned with golden ornaments, attended by divine gods and Gandharvas.
अप्रमेयमनाधृष्यमधर्मबहुलैर्जनैः। व्यालैराचरितं धोरैर्दिव्यौषधिविदीपितम्
Immeasurable, unassailable by people full of unrighteousness, inhabited by serpents and fierce beasts, illuminated by divine herbs.
