Therefore, O king, always thinking of repaying your kindness, I, who am righteous, have seen these fragments of your son.
By my joining them together, by divine will, the prince became whole; O great king, I am only the occasion, but the merit is yours.
I am able to devour even Mount Meru—what then of your child? But out of satisfaction from your household worship, I have restored him to you.
Having spoken thus, she vanished there itself, O king; and the king, taking up the boy, entered his house.
At that time, the king performed all the duties required for the child, and he also ordered a great festival among the people of Magadha.
His father, equal to the grandsire, gave him a name, saying, 'Since he was joined together by old age, let this one be called Jarasandha.'
That son of the lord of Magadha, endowed with great energy, grew up, possessing stature and strength, like fire fed by offerings.
Thus, O king, the lotus-eyed prince flourished; attaining the fullness of youth, he became a source of joy to his parents, like the waxing moon in the bright fortnight.
Then, after some time, the great ascetic, the revered Candakaushika, again arrived in Magadha.
Delighted by his arrival, Brihadratha, together with his ministers, citizens, wife, and son, went out to meet him.
He honored him with water for washing the feet, offerings, and water for sipping; and that king presented his son, along with the kingdom, to the sage.
Having accepted that worship from the king, the divine sage spoke to the king of Magadha with a heart full of joy.
O king, I have known all this through my divine sight; now listen, O lord of kings, to what your son will become.
His form, character, strength, and vigor—this son of yours is endowed with all prosperity, without a doubt.
He will attain all this, endowed with valor; the strength of this mighty one will not be matched by other kings.
Just as other birds cannot match the speed of Garuda in flight, so too, those who oppose him will meet with destruction.
Even weapons released by the gods, O king, will not harm him, just as rivers do not harm a mountain.
He will shine above the heads of all crowned kings, as the sun, the bearer of light, shines among all the stars.
Kings, even those with great armies and resources, encountering him will meet their end, like moths in a flame.
He, endowed with prosperity, will seize the fortunes of all kings, as the lord of rivers draws up the waters of streams during the rains.
This mighty one will properly uphold the fourfold order, and the earth, rich and prosperous, bearing all crops, will flourish under his rule.
All kings will be subject to his command, just as all embodied beings are subject to the wind, which is the soul of all creatures.
This Māgadha will see Rudra, the great god, the destroyer of Tripura, Hara, who is exceedingly powerful in all the worlds, directly.
Thus speaking, the sage, pondering his own purpose, dismissed King Bṛhadratha.
Then, entering the city, surrounded by his relatives and allies, the lord of Magadha anointed Jarāsandha.
King Bṛhadratha attained supreme contentment when Jarāsandha was anointed; accompanied by his two wives, he became a dweller in the forest of ascetics.
Then, when his father dwelt in the forest with both mothers, Jarāsandha, by his own strength, brought the kings under his control, O Bhārata.
After a long time, King Bṛhadratha, dwelling in the ascetic forest with his wives, attained heaven, having performed austerities.
And King Jarāsandha, having received all the boons as declared by Kauśika, ruled the kingdom.
When I slew Kaṃsa together with his brothers, then the daughter of Jarāsandha wept beside her father; thus, enmity was firmly established between us, O Bhārata.
