The ocean, the lord of rivers, is the sacred offering to the blazing fire at the mouth of Baḍavā, unfathomable, vast, immeasurable.
महानदीभिर्बह्वीभिः स्पर्धयेव सहस्रशः। अभिसार्यमाणमनिशं ददृशाते महार्णवम्। आपूर्यमाणमत्यर्थं नृत्यमानमिवोर्मिभिः
They saw the great ocean, ever being filled by thousands of mighty rivers, as if competing, and dancing exceedingly with its waves.
गम्भीरं तिमिमकरोग्रसंकुलं तं गर्जन्तं जलचररावरौद्रनादैः। विस्तीर्णं ददृशतुरम्बरप्रकाशं तेऽगाधं निधिमुरुमम्भसामनन्तम्

इति निश्चित्य ते तस्य कृष्णा वाला इव स्थिताः।' एतस्मिन्नन्तरे ते तु सपत्न्यौ पणिते तदा
Having so resolved, they stood there like black hairs of the tail; meanwhile, at that moment, the two co-wives made a wager.
ततस्ते पणितं कृत्वा भगिन्यौ द्विजसत्तम। जग्मतुः परया प्रीत्या परं पारं महोदधेः

कद्रूश्च विनता चैव दाक्षायण्यौ विहायसा। आलोकयन्त्यावक्षोभ्यं समुद्रं निधिमम्भसाम्

वायुनाऽतीव सहसा क्षोभ्यमाणं महास्वनम्। तिमिंगिलसमाकीर्णं मकरैरावृतं तथा

संयुतं बहुसाहस्रैः सत्वैर्नानाविधैरपि। घोरर्घोरमनाधृष्यं गम्भीरमतिभैरवम्

आकरं सर्वरत्नानामालयं वरुणस्य च। नागानामालयं चापि सुरम्यं सरितां पतिम्
The source of all gems, the abode of Varuṇa, the dwelling of the Nāgas, delightful, the lord of rivers.
पातालज्वलनावासमसुराणां तथालयम्। भयंकराणां सत्त्वानां पयसो निधिमव्ययम्
The abode of the fire of the netherworld, the home of the Asuras, the dwelling of fearsome beings, the inexhaustible treasure of waters.
शुभ्रं दिव्यममर्त्यानाममृतस्याकरं परम्। अप्रमेयमचिन्त्यं च सुपुम्यजलसंमितम्
Radiant, divine, the source of immortality for the immortals, supreme, immeasurable, inconceivable, and equal to the pure waters of heaven.
महानदीभिर्बह्वीभिस्तत्र तत्र सहस्रशः। आपूर्यमाणमत्यर्थं नृत्यन्तमिव चोर्मिभिः
There, in many places, countless great rivers filled it exceedingly, their waves dancing as if in joy.
