केचिद्धि सौहृदा देवे न दोषं परिचक्षते। स्वार्थहेतोस्तथैवान्ये प्रियमेव वदन्त्युत
Some, out of friendship, O god, do not point out faults; others, for their own interests, speak only what is pleasing.
प्रियमेव परीप्सन्ते केचिदात्मनि यद्धितम्। एवम्प्रायाश्च दृश्यन्ते जनवादाः प्रयोजने
Some seek only what is pleasing, whatever they think is good for themselves; such are the opinions commonly seen among people regarding their aims.
त्वं तु हेतूनतीत्यैतान्कामक्रोधौ व्युदस्य च। परमं यत्क्षमं लोके यथावद्वक्तुमर्हसि
But you, surpassing these motives, having set aside desire and anger, ought to speak, as is proper, what is the highest and most fitting in the world.
सर्वैर्गुणैर्महाराज राजसूयं त्वमर्हसि। जानतस्त्वेव ते सर्वं किञ्चिद्वक्ष्यामि भारत
O great king, you are worthy of the Rajasuya in every way; yet, knowing all, I will say a little to you, descendant of Bharata.
जामदग्न्येन रामेण क्षत्रं यदवशेषितम्। तस्मादवरजं लोके यदिदं क्षत्रसंज्ञितम्
Whatever Kshatriyas remained after Rama, son of Jamadagni, that is what is now called the Kshatriya class in the world.

ऐलवंश्याश्च ये राजंस्तथैवेक्ष्वाकवो नृपाः। तानि चैकशतं विद्धि कुलानि भरतर्षभ
O king, those of the Aila line and the Ikshvaku kings—know, O bull of the Bharatas, that there are a hundred such royal families.
ययातेस्त्वेव भोजानां विस्तरो गुणतो महान्। भजतेऽद्य महाराज विस्तरं सचतुर्दिशम्
But among the Bhojas, the greatness of Yayati’s line is especially renowned, O great king, and today it has spread in all four directions.
तेषां तथैव तां लक्ष्मीं सर्वक्षत्रमुपासते। इदानीमेव वै राजञ्जरासन्धो महीपतिः
All the Kshatriyas now serve that same prosperity among them; and at this very time, O king, Jarasandha, lord of the earth—
अभिभूय श्रियं तेषां कुलानामभिषेचितः। स्थितो मूर्ध्नि नरेन्द्राणामोजसाऽऽक्रम्य सर्वशः
Having subdued the wealth of those families, has been consecrated; he stands at the head of kings, having seized all by his might.
सोऽवनीं मध्यमां भुक्त्वा मिथो भेदममन्यत। प्रभुर्यस्तु परो राजा यस्मिन्नेकवशे जगत्
Having enjoyed the central earth, he considered causing division among them; but the supreme lord is that king in whose power the world is united.
स साम्राज्यं महाराज प्राप्तो भवति योगतः। तं स राजा जरासन्धं संश्रित्य किल सर्वशः
O King, he attained imperial sovereignty through alliance, relying entirely upon that king Jarasandha.
राजन्सेनापतिर्जातः शिशुपालः प्रतापवान्। तमेव च महाराज शिष्यवत्समुपस्थितः

Both Hamsa and Dimbhaka, of great valor, allied themselves with the mighty Jarasandha; Vakradanta of Karusha, Karabha, and Meghavahana are known for bearing a wondrous divine jewel upon their heads.
मरुं च नरकं चैव शास्ति यो यवनाधिपः। अपर्यन्तबलो राजा प्रतीच्यां वरुणो यथा
The king of the Yavanas, whose power is boundless like Varuna in the west, rules over Maru and Naraka.
भगदत्तो महाराज वृद्धस्तव पितुः सखा। स वाचा प्रणतस्तस्य कर्मणा च विशेषतः
Bhagadatta, O King, elderly and a friend of your father, honored him especially both in word and deed.
स्नेहबद्धश्च मनसा पितृवद्भक्तिमांस्त्वयि। प्रतीच्यां दक्षिणं चान्तं पृथिव्याः प्रति यो नृपः
Bound by affection in his heart, devoted to you as to a father, he is the king who rules the western and southern ends of the earth.
मातुलो भवतः शूरः पुरुजित्कुन्तिवर्धनः। स ते सन्नितिमानेकः स्नेहतः शत्रुसूदनः
Your valiant maternal uncle, Purujit Kuntivardhana, stands with you out of affection, O subduer of foes, with many allies.
जरासन्धं गतस्त्वेव पुरा यो न मया हतः। पुरुषोत्तमविज्ञातो योसौ चेदिषु दुर्मतिः
He who once went to Jarasandha and was not slain by me, that wicked-minded one among the Cedis, is known as Purushottama.
आत्मानं प्रतिजानाति लोकेऽस्मिन्पुरुषोत्तमम्। आदत्ते सततं मोहाद्यः स चिह्नं च मामकम्

वङ्गपुण्ड्रकिरातेषु राजा बलसमन्वितः। पौण्ड्रको वासुदेवेति योसौ लोकेऽभिविश्रुतः

प्रियाण्याचरतः प्रह्वान्सदा सम्बन्धिनस्ततः। भजतो न भजत्यस्मानप्रियेषु व्यवस्थितः
