सदा भगवती लक्ष्मीस्तत्रैव नलकूबरः। अहं च बहुशस्तस्यां भवन्त्यन्ये च मद्विधाः
The divine Lakshmi is always there, along with Nalakubara; I myself and many others like me are present in that place.
ब्रह्मर्षयो भवन्त्यत्र तथा देवर्षयोऽपरे। क्रव्यादाश्च तथैवान्ये गन्धर्वाश्च महाबलाः
Brahmarshis are there, as well as other Devarshis; also flesh-eaters and powerful Gandharvas.
उपासते महात्मानं तस्यां धनदमीश्वरम्। भगवान्भूतसङ्घैश्च वृतः शतसहस्रशः
They worship the great-souled Lord of Wealth in that place, the blessed one surrounded by hosts of beings numbering in hundreds of thousands.
उमापतिः पशुपतिः शूलभृद्भगनेत्रहा। त्र्यम्बको राजशार्दूल देवी च विगतक्लमा
Umapati, Pashupati, the wielder of the trident, the destroyer of Bhaga's eye, Tryambaka, O tiger among kings, and the goddess, free from fatigue, are present.
वामनैर्विकटैः कुब्जैः क्षतजाक्षैर्महारवैः। मेदोमांसाशनैरुग्रैरुग्रधन्वा महाबलः
With dwarfs, deformed ones, hunchbacks, blood-eyed, fierce ones, those who eat fat and flesh, formidable archers of great strength.
नानाप्रहरणैरुग्रैर्वातैरिव महाजवैः। वृतः सखायमन्वास्ते सदैव धनदं नृप
Surrounded by companions armed with various fierce weapons, swift as the wind, he always attends upon the Lord of Wealth, O king.
प्रहृष्टाः शतशश्चान्ये बहुशः सपरिच्छदाः। गन्धर्वाणां च पतयो विश्वावसुर्हहा हुहूः
Many others, hundreds, joyful and with attendants, the lords of the Gandharvas: Vishvavasu, Haha, and Huhu.
तुम्बुरुः प्रवतश्चैव शैलूषश्च तथाऽपरः। चित्रसेनश्च गीतज्ञस्तथा चित्ररथोपि च
Tumburu, Pravata, Shailusha, and others; Citrashena, skilled in song, and also Citraratha.
एते चान्ये च गन्धर्वा धनेश्वरमुपासते। विद्याधराधिपश्चैव चक्रधर्मा सहानुजैः
These and other Gandharvas worship the Lord of Wealth; and the chief of the Vidyadharas, Chakradharma, with his brothers.
उपाचरति तत्र स्म धनानामीश्वरं प्रभुम्। किन्नराः शतशस्तत्र धनानामीश्वरं प्रभुम्
There, the Kinnaras in hundreds serve the Lord and master of wealth.
आसते चापि राजानो भगदत्तपुरोगमाः। द्रुमः किम्पुरुषेशश्च उपास्ते धनदेश्वरम्
Kings also sit there, headed by Bhagadatta; Druma, the lord of the Kimpurushas, worships the Lord of Wealth.
राक्षसाधिपतिश्चैव महेन्द्रो गन्धमादनः। सह यक्षैः सगन्धर्वैः सह सर्वैर्निशाचरैः
The lord of the Rakshasas, Mahendra, Gandhamadana, together with Yakshas, Gandharvas, and all night-dwellers, are present.
विभीषणश्च धर्मिष्ठ उपास्ते भ्रातरं प्रभुम्। हिमवान्पारियात्रश्च विन्ध्यकैलासमन्दराः
Vibhīṣaṇa, righteous in conduct, serves his powerful brother; Himavat, Pāriyātra, Vindhya, Kailāsa, and Mandara also attend.
मलयो दर्दुरश्चैव महेन्द्रो गन्धमादनः। इन्द्रकीलः सुनाभश्च तथा दिव्यौ च पर्वतौ
Malaya, Dardura, Mahendra, Gandhamādana, Indrakīla, Sunābha, and likewise two divine mountains are present.
एते चान्ये च बहवः सर्वे मेरुपुरोगमाः। उपासते महात्मानं धनानामीश्वरं प्रभुम्
These and many others, all led by Meru, serve the great soul, the lord and master of wealth.
नन्दीश्वरश्च भगवान्महाकालस्तथैव च। शङ्कुकर्णमुखाः सर्वे दिव्याः पारिषदास्तथा
Nandīśvara, the blessed Mahākāla, and all the divine attendants headed by Śaṅkukarṇa are likewise present.
काष्ठः कुटी मुखो दन्ती विजयश्च तपोधिकः। श्वेतश्च वृषभस्तत्र नर्दन्नास्ते महाबलः
Kāṣṭha, Kuṭī, Mukha, Dantī, Vijaya, Tapodhika, and Śveta the mighty bull, roaring, are there.
धनदं राक्षसाश्चान्ये पिशाचाश्च उपासते। पारिषदैः परिवृतमुपायान्तं महेश्वरम्
Other Rākṣasas and Piśācas also serve the lord of wealth, approaching Maheśvara surrounded by his attendants.
सदा हि देवदेवेशं शिवं त्रैलोक्यभावनम्। प्रणम्य मूर्ध्ना पौलस्त्यो बहुरूपमुमापतिम्
Always, the Paulastya bows his head to Śiva, lord of gods, creator of the three worlds, the many-formed consort of Umā.
ततोऽभ्यनुज्ञां सम्प्राप्य महादेवाद्धनेश्वरः। आस्ते कदाचिद्भगवान्भवो धनपतेः सखा
Then, having received permission from Mahādeva, the lord of wealth remains, and sometimes the blessed Bhava is the friend of the lord of wealth.
निधिप्रवरमुख्यौ च शङ्खपद्मौ धनेश्वरौ। सर्वान्निधीन्प्रगृह्याथ उपास्तां वै धनेश्वरम्
The foremost treasures, Śaṅkha and Padma, the lords of wealth, having gathered all treasures, serve the lord of wealth.
सा सभा तादृशी रम्या मया दृष्टान्तरिक्षगा। पितामहसभां राजन्कीर्तयिष्ये निबोध ताम्
Such a splendid assembly, moving in the sky, I have seen; O king, I will describe to you the assembly of the Grandfather, listen to it.
पितामहसभां तात कथ्यमानां निबोध मे। शक्यते या न निर्देष्टुमेवंरूपेति भारत
O father, listen to my account of the Grandfather's assembly, which cannot be described as it truly is, O Bhārata.
पुरा देवयुगे राजन्नादित्यो भगवान्दिवः। आगच्छन्मानुषं लोकं दिदृक्षुर्विगतक्लमः
Once, in the age of the gods, O king, the blessed Āditya, free from fatigue, came from heaven desiring to see the human world.
चरन्मानुषरूपेण सभां दृष्ट्वा स्वयम्भुवः। स तामकथयन्मह्यं दृष्ट्वा तत्त्वेन पाण्डव
Wandering in human form, he saw the assembly of Svayambhu; having seen it in truth, he described it to me, O Pāṇḍava.
अप्रमेयां सभां दिव्यां मानसीं भरतर्षभ। अनिर्देश्यां प्रभावेण सर्वभूतमनोरमाम्
That immeasurable, divine, mind-born assembly, O best of Bharatas, indescribable in its splendor, delightful to all beings.
श्रुत्वा गुणानहं तस्याः सभायाः पाण्डवर्षभ। दर्शनेप्सुस्तथा राजन्नादित्यमिदमब्रुवम्
Hearing the virtues of that assembly, O best of the Pāṇḍavas, desiring to see it, I spoke thus to Āditya.
भगवन्द्रष्टुमिच्छामि पितामहसभां शुभाम्। येन वा तपसा शक्या कर्मणा वाऽपि गोपते
Blessed one, I wish to see the auspicious assembly of the Grandfather, whether by austerity or by action, O lord of cattle.
औषधैर्या तथा युक्तैरुत्तमा पापनाशिनी। तन्ममाचक्ष्व भगवन्पश्येयं तां सभां यथा
By medicines or by suitable means, supreme and destroyer of evil, tell me, blessed one, how I may see that assembly.
स तन्मम वचः श्रुत्वा सहस्रांशुर्दिवाकरः। प्रोवाच भारतश्रेष्ठ व्रतं वर्षसहस्रकम्
Hearing my words, the thousand-rayed sun spoke, O best of Bharatas: 'A vow of a thousand years.'
