तथा शकुनयस्तस्यां विचित्रा मधुरस्वराः। अनिर्देश्या वपुष्मन्तः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः
There, too, are birds of many kinds with sweet voices, possessing indescribable forms, in their hundreds and thousands.
सा सभा सुखसंस्पर्शा न शीता न च धर्मदा। वेश्मासनवती रम्या सिता वरुणपालिता
That assembly is pleasant to the touch, neither cold nor hot; furnished with dwellings and seats, delightful and bright, guarded by Varuna.
यस्यामास्ते स वरुणो वारुण्या च समन्वितः। दिव्यरत्नाम्बरधरो दिव्याभरणभूषितः
Within it sits Varuna, accompanied by Varuni, adorned in divine jewels and garments, embellished with celestial ornaments.
?द्वितीयेन तु नाम्ना वै गौरीति भुवि विश्रुता। पत्न्या सवरुणो देवः प्रमोदति सुखी सुखम्
With his second wife, famed on earth as Gauri by name, the god Varuna rejoices happily.
स्रग्विणो दिव्यगन्धाश्च दिव्यगन्धानुलेपनाः। आदित्यास्तत्र वरुणं जलेश्वरमुपासते
Wearing garlands and divine fragrances, anointed with celestial scents, the Adityas worship Varuna, lord of the waters, there.
वासुकिस्तक्षकश्चैव नागश्चैरावतस्तथा। कृष्णश्च लोहितश्चैव पद्मश्चित्रश्च वीर्यवान्
Vasuki, Takshaka, and the serpent Airavata, Krishna, Lohita, Padma, and the mighty Chitra are present.
कम्बलाश्वतरौ नागौ धृतराष्ट्रबलाहकौ। मणिमान्कुण्डधारश्च कर्कोटकधनञ्जयौ
Kambala and Ashvatara, the serpents Dhritarashtra and Balahaka, Maniman, Kundadhara, Karkotaka, and Dhananjaya.
पाणिमान्कुण्डधारश्च बलवान्पृथिवीपते। प्रह्रादो मुषिकादश्च तथैव जनमेजयः
Paniman and Kundadhara, O lord of the earth, the powerful Prahrada, Mushikada, and likewise Janamejaya.
पताकिनो मण्डलिनः फणवन्तश्च सर्वशः। ` अर्थो धर्मश्च कामश्च वसुः कपिल एव च
All around were those bearing banners, arranged in circles, adorned with hoods; and there too were Artha, Dharma, Kāma, Vasu, and Kapila.
अनन्तश्च महानागो यं दृष्ट्वा जलजेश्वरः। अभ्यर्चयति सत्कारैरासनेन च तं विभुः
And there was Ananta, the great serpent, whom, when seen, the lord of the waters worships with honors and a seat, that mighty one.
वासुकिप्रमुखाश्चैव सर्वे प्राञ्जलयः स्थिताः। अनुज्ञाताश्च शेषेण यथार्हमुपविश्य च
And all the serpents headed by Vāsuki stood there with joined palms, having been permitted by Śeṣa, and sat down as was appropriate.
एते चान्ये च बहवः सर्पास्तस्यां युधिष्ठिर। `वैनतेयश्च गरुडो ये चास्य परिचारिणः'। उपासते महात्मानं वरुणं विगतक्लमाः
And these and many other serpents, O Yudhiṣṭhira, along with Garuḍa, son of Vinatā, and his attendants, worship the great-souled Varuṇa, free from fatigue.
बलिर्वैरोचनो राजा नरकः पृथिवीञ्जयः। संह्रादो विप्रचित्तिश्च कालखञ्जाश्च दानवाः
Bali, son of Virocana, the king, Naraka, conqueror of the earth, Saṃhrāda, Vipracitti, and the Dānavas known as Kālakhañjas,
सुहनुर्दुर्मुखः शङ्खः सुमनाः सुमतिस्ततः। घटोदरो महापार्श्वः क्रथनः पिठरस्तथा
Suhanur, Durmukha, Śaṅkha, Sumanā, Sumati, Ghaṭodara, Mahāpārśva, Krathana, and Piṭhara,
विश्वरूपः स्वरूपश्च विरूपोऽथ महाशिराः। दशग्रीवश्च वाली च मेघवासा दशावरः
Viśvarūpa, Svarūpa, Virūpa, Mahāśirā, Daśagrīva, Vālī, Meghavāsā, and Daśāvara,
टिट्टिभो विटभूतश्च संह्रादश्चेन्द्रतापनः। दैत्यदानवसङ्घाश्च सर्वे रुचिरकुण्डलाः
Ṭiṭṭibha, Viṭabhūta, Saṃhrāda, Indratāpana, and all the hosts of Daityas and Dānavas, adorned with shining earrings,
स्रग्विणो मौलिनश्चैव तथा दिव्यपरिच्छदाः। सर्वे लब्धवराः शूराः सर्वे विगतमृत्यवः
Wearing garlands and crested crowns, adorned with divine ornaments, all having obtained boons, all heroes, all beyond death,
ते तस्यां वरुणं देवं धर्मपाशधरं सदा। उपासते महात्मानं सर्वे सुचरितव्रताः
All these, ever devoted to good vows, worship Varuṇa, the god who holds the noose of Dharma, that great-souled one.
तथा समुद्राश्चत्वारो नदी भागीरथी च सा। कालिन्दी विदिशा वेणा नर्दमा वेगवाहिनी
Likewise, the four oceans, and the river Bhāgīrathī, Kālindī, Vidiśā, Veṇā, Nardamā, and Vegavāhinī,
विपाशा च शतद्रुश्च चन्द्रभागा सरस्वती। इरावती वितस्ता च सिन्धुर्देवनदी तथा
Vipāśā, Śatadru, Candrabhāgā, Sarasvatī, Irāvatī, Vitastā, and Sindhu, the divine river,
गोदावरी कृष्णवेणी कावेरी च सरिद्वरा। किम्पुना च विशल्या च तथा वैतरणी नदी
Godāvarī, Kṛṣṇaveṇī, Kāverī, the best of rivers, Kimpunā, Viśalyā, and also the river Vaitaraṇī,
तृतीया ज्येष्ठिला चैव शोणश्चापि महानदः। चर्मण्वती तथा चैव पर्णाशा च महानदी
Tṛtīyā, Jyeṣṭhilā, and the great river Śoṇa, as well as Carmaṇvatī and the great river Parṇāśā,
सरयूर्वारवत्याऽथ लाङ्गली च सरिद्वरा। करतोया तथाऽऽत्रेयी लौहित्यश्च महानदः
Sarayū, Vāravatī, and the excellent river Lāṅgalī, Karatoyā, Atreyī, and the great river Lauhitya,
लङ्घती गोमती चैव सन्ध्या त्रिस्रोतसी तथा। एताश्चन्याश्च राजेन्द्र सुतीर्था लोकविश्रुताः
Laṅghatī, Gomatī, Sandhyā, and Trisrotas, and other famous rivers with sacred fords, O king,
सरितः सर्वतश्चान्यास्तीर्थानि च सरांसि च। कूपाश्च सप्रस्रवणा देहवन्तो युधिष्ठिर
And all other rivers everywhere, and sacred fords, and lakes, and wells with springs, all possessing forms, O Yudhiṣṭhira,
पल्वलानि तटाकानि देहवन्त्यथ भारत। दिशस्तथा मही चैव तथा सर्वे महीधराः
Pools and tanks, also possessing forms, O Bhārata, as well as the directions, the earth, and all the great mountains.
उपासते महात्मानं सर्वे जलचरास्तथा। गीतवादित्रवन्तश्च गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणाः
All the aquatic beings worship the great soul there, as do the hosts of Gandharvas and Apsarases with song and instrumental music.
स्तुवन्तो वरुणं तस्यां सर्व एव समासते। महीधरा रत्नवन्तो रसा ये च प्रतिष्ठिताः
There, all praise Varuṇa and gather together; the jewel-bearing mountains and those established in the Rasā also assemble.
कथयन्तः सुमधुराः कथास्तत्र समासते। वारुणश्च तथा मन्त्री सुनाभः पर्युपासते
They gather there, telling most sweet stories; and likewise, Sunābha, the counselor of Varuṇa, attends upon him.
पुत्रपौत्रैः परिवृतो गोनाम्ना पुष्करेण च। सर्वे विग्रहवन्तस्ते तमीश्वरमुपासते
Surrounded by his sons and grandsons, by Puṣkara, and by those named after cows, all these embodied beings worship that Lord.
