पृष्ठतोऽनुययुः कृष्णमृत्विक्पौरजनैर्वृता। स तथा भ्रातृभिः सर्वैः केशवः परवीरहा
Followed behind Krishna, surrounded by priests and citizens; thus, with all his brothers, Keshava, destroyer of enemy heroes—
अन्वीयमानः शुशुभे शिष्यैरिव गुरुः प्रियैः। `अभिमन्युं च सौभद्रं वृद्धैः परिवृतस्तथा
Being followed, shone like a teacher with beloved disciples; and likewise, Abhimanyu, son of Subhadra, surrounded by elders.
रथमारोप्य निर्यातो धौम्यो ब्राह्मणपुङ्गवः। इन्द्रप्रस्थमतिक्रम्य क्रोशमात्रं महाद्युतिः'। पार्थमामन्त्र्य गोविन्दः परिष्वज्य सुपीडितम्
Dhaumya, the foremost of Brahmins, mounted the chariot and set out; after passing Indraprastha by a short distance, the illustrious Govinda, embracing Partha tightly, took leave.
युधिष्ठरं पूजयित्वा भीमसेनं यमौ तथा। परिष्वक्तो भृशं तैस्तु यमाभ्यामभिवादितः
After honoring Yudhishthira, Bhimasena, and the twins, he was warmly embraced by them and respectfully greeted by the twins.
योजनार्धमथो गत्वा कृष्णः परपुरञ्जयः। युधिष्ठिरं समामन्त्र्य निवर्तस्वेति भारत
Having gone half a yojana, Krishna, conqueror of enemy cities, addressed Yudhishthira, 'Now turn back,' O Bharata.
ततोऽभिवाद्य गोविन्दः पादौ जग्राह धर्मवित्। उत्थाप्य धर्मराजस्तु मूर्ध्न्युपाघ्राय केशवम्
Then Govinda, knower of righteousness, bowed and took hold of Yudhishthira's feet; the king of dharma, raising Keshava, smelled his head.
पाण्डवो यादवश्रेष्ठं कृष्णं कमललोचनम्। गम्यतामित्यनुज्ञाप्य धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः
The son of Pandu, Yudhishthira, king of dharma, after granting permission to Krishna, the best of the Yadavas with lotus eyes, said, 'You may go.'
ततस्तैः संविदं कृत्वा यथावन्मधुसूदनः। निवर्त्य च तथा कृच्छ्रात्पाण्डवान्सपदानुगान्
Then Madhusudana, having exchanged farewells as was proper, turned back the Pandavas and their followers with difficulty.
स्वां पुरीं प्रययौ हृष्टो यथा शक्रोऽमरावतीम्।। लोचनैरनुजग्मुस्ते तमादृष्टिपथात्तदा
Joyful, he went to his own city as Shakra goes to Amaravati; they followed him with their eyes as far as he could be seen.
मनोभिरनुजग्मुस्ते कृष्णं प्रीतिसमन्वयात्। अतृप्तमनसामेव तेषां केशवदर्शने
With their minds, too, they followed Krishna, filled with affection; their hearts unsatisfied with the sight of Keshava.
क्षिप्रमन्तर्दधे शौरिश्चक्षुषां प्रियदर्शनः। अकामा एव पार्थास्ते गोविन्दगमानसाः
Quickly Shauri, pleasing to the eyes, vanished from their sight; though unwilling, the sons of Pritha turned back, their minds still with Govinda.
निवृत्योपययुस्तूर्णं स्वं पुरं पुरुषर्षभाः। स्यन्दनेनाथ कृष्णोऽपि त्वरितं द्वारकामगात्
Turning back, the best of men swiftly returned to their own city; and Krishna, too, went quickly to Dvaraka in his chariot.
सात्वतेन च वीरेण पृष्ठतो यायिना तदा। दारुकेण च सूतेन सहितो देवकीसुतः। स गतो द्वारकां विष्णुर्गरुत्मानिव वेगवान्
Accompanied then by the heroic Satyaki following behind, and by Daruka the charioteer, the son of Devaki, Vishnu, reached Dvaraka swiftly like Garuda.
निवृत्य धर्मराजस्तु सह भ्रातृभिरच्युतः। सुहृत्परिवृतो राजा प्रविवेश पुरोत्तमम्
Turning back, the steadfast king, with his brothers and friends, entered the excellent city, surrounded by companions.
विसृज्य सुहृदः सर्वान्भ्रातॄन्पुत्रांश्च धर्मराट्। मुमोद पुरुषव्याघ्रो द्रौपद्या सहितो नृप
Having dismissed all friends, brothers, and sons, the tiger among men, the king, rejoiced together with Draupadi.
केशवोपि मुदा युक्तः प्रविवेश पुरोत्तमम्। पूज्यमानो यदुश्रेष्ठैरुग्रसेनमुखैस्तथा
Keshava, too, filled with joy, entered the excellent city, honored by the foremost of the Yadus, headed by Ugrasena.
आहुकं पितरं वृद्धं मातरं च यशस्विनीम्। अभिवाद्य बलं चैव स्थितः कमललोचनः
Having bowed to his aged father Āhuka, his illustrious mother, and also to Bala, the lotus-eyed one stood there.
प्रद्युम्नसाम्बनिशठांश्चरुदेष्णं गदं तथा। अनिरुद्धं च भानुं च परिष्वज्य जनार्दनः
Janārdana embraced Pradyumna, Sāmba, Niśaṭha, Cārudeṣṇa, Gada, Aniruddha, and Bhānu as well.
स वृद्धैरभ्यनुज्ञातो रुक्मिण्या भवनं ययौ। `स तत्र भवने दिव्ये प्रमुमोद सुखी सुखम्
Having been permitted by the elders, he went to Rukmiṇī’s palace; there, in that splendid mansion, he rejoiced happily.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे राजन्मयो दैत्याधिपस्तदा। विधिवत्कल्पयामास सभां धर्मसुताय वै
Meanwhile, O King, Maya, the lord of the Daityas, began to construct a hall for the son of Dharma, according to proper rites.
अथाब्रवीन्मयः पार्थमर्युनं जयतां वरम्। आपृच्छे त्वां गमिष्यामि पुनरेष्यामि चाप्यहम्
Then Maya spoke to Pārtha, the foremost of conquerors: 'I take leave of you; I will go and shall return again.'
विश्रुतां त्रिषु लोकेषु पार्थ दिव्यां सभां तव। प्राणिनां विस्मयकरीं तव प्रियविवर्धिनीम्। पाण्डवानां च सर्वेषां करिष्यामि धनञ्जय
O Pārtha, I will make for you a divine assembly hall, famed in the three worlds, wondrous to all beings and increasing your joy, for all the Pāṇḍavas, O Dhanañjaya.
उत्तरेण तु कैलासं मैनाकं पर्वतं प्रति। यियक्षमाणेषु पुरा दानवेषु मया कृतम्
To the north of Kailāsa, towards Mount Maināka, when the Dānavas once wished to dwell, I made it there.
चित्रं मणिमयं भाण्डं रम्यं बिन्दुसारः प्रति। सभायां सत्यसन्धस्य यदासीद्वृषपर्वणः
There was a wondrous, jewel-encrusted vessel, delightful, at Lake Bindusāra, in the assembly hall of the truthful Vṛṣaparvan.
आगमिष्यामि तद्गृह्य यदि तिष्ठति भारत। ततः सभां करिष्यामि पाण्डवस्य यशस्विनीम्
If it still remains, O Bhārata, I will bring it and then construct for the illustrious Pāṇḍava a hall.
मनः प्रह्लादिनीं चित्रां सर्वरत्नविभूषिताम्। अस्ति बिन्दुसारस्युग्रा गदा च कुरुनन्दन
There is, O joy of the Kurus, at Bindusāra, a wondrous, mind-delighting, jewel-adorned mace, fierce and mighty.
निहिता यौवनाश्वेन राज्ञा हत्वा रणे रिपून्। सुवर्णबिन्दुभिश्चित्रा गुर्वी भारसहा दृढा
It was placed there by King Yauvanāśva, who, after slaying his foes in battle, set down this heavy, strong, gold-studded mace.
सा वै शतसहस्रस्य सम्मिता शत्रुघातिनी। अनुरूपा च भीमस्य गाण्डीवं भवतो यथा
That slayer of enemies is valued at a hundred thousand, and is fit for Bhīma, just as the Gāṇḍīva bow is for you.
वारुणश्च महाशङ्खो देवदत्तः सुघोषवान्। सर्वमेतत्प्रदास्यामि भवते नात्र संशयः
There is also the great conch of Varuṇa, Devadatta, with a splendid sound; all this I will give to you without doubt.
इत्युक्त्वा सोऽसुरः पार्थं प्रागुदीचीं दिशं गतः। अथोत्तरेण कैलासान्मैनाकं पर्वतं प्रति
Having spoken thus, the Asura went towards the northeast, and then, to the north of Kailāsa, towards Mount Maināka.
