नाम्नेति जैमिनि: सम्भवात्
Jaimini says, 'Not so,' because it is possible.
अत्राङ्गप्रयोगाणां यथाकालसम्भवो गृहादिवत्
Here, the application of subsidiary rites occurs as appropriate, just as in household matters.
ईश्वरतुष्टेरेकोऽपि बली
Even one act, if it pleases the Lord, is powerful.
अबन्धोऽर्पणस्य मुखम्
The offering is not binding; it is the gateway.
ध्याननियमस्तु दृष्टसौकर्यात्
The rule of meditation is established because of its evident convenience.
तद्यजि: पूजयामितरेषां नैवम्
For that sacrifice, worship is not so for the others.
पादोदकं तु पाद्यमव्याप्ते:
The water for washing the feet is the same as the water for offering, when not pervaded.
स्वयमर्पितं ग्राह्यमविशेषात्
What is offered by oneself is acceptable without distinction.
निमित्तगुणाव्यपेक्षणादपरधेषु व्यवस्था
In cases of faults, the determination is made by considering the cause and quality.
पत्रादेर्दानमत्यथा हि वैशिष्ट्यम्
The giving of leaves and the like, if not prescribed, indeed has special significance.
सुकृतजत्वात् परहेतुभावाच्च क्रियासु श्रेयस्य:
Because of being born from virtue and due to being for another's sake, actions are for the highest good.
गौणं त्रैविध्यमितरेण स्तुत्यर्थत्वात् साहचर्यम्
The secondary threefold nature, for the others, is due to the purpose of praise and association.
बहिरन्तरस्थमुभयमवेष्टिसववत्
It pervades both the external and internal, enveloping all, like the wind.
स्मृतिकीर्त्यो: कथादेश्चार्तौ प्रायश्चित्तभावात्
Because remembrance, praise, and stories serve as atonement in times of distress.
भूयसामननुष्ठितिरिति चेदाप्रयाणमुपसंहारान्महत्स्वपि
If it is said that there is mostly non-performance, there is no departure, since even among the great, there is withdrawal.
लब्ध्वपि भक्ताधिकारे महत्क्षेपकमपरसर्वहानात्
Even after attaining the privilege of devotion, a great obstacle arises due to the loss of everything else.
तत्स्थानत्वादनन्यधर्म: खले बालीवत्
Because of being established in that state, there is no other duty, like a child among the wicked.
आनिन्द्ययोन्यधिक्रियते पारम्पर्यात् सामान्यवत्
Because there is no reproach, another is appointed by succession, as in the general case.
अतो ह्यविपक्वभावानामपि तल्लोके
Therefore, even for those whose state is not mature, that world exists.
क्रमैकगत्युपपत्तेस्तु
Because of the possibility of a single, sequential path.
उत्क्रान्तिस्मृतिवाक्यशेषाच्च
And because of the remainder of scriptural statements about departure and remembrance.
महापातकिनां त्वार्तौ
But for great sinners, in distress—
सैकान्तभावो गीतार्थप्रत्यभिज्ञानात्
The exclusive state is due to the recognition of the meaning of the Gītā.
परां कृत्वैव सर्वेषां तथा ह्याह
Only after making it supreme for all, for thus it is said.
भजनीयेनाद्वितीयमिदं कृत्स्नस्य तत्स्वरूपत्वात्
This alone, being non-dual, is to be worshipped, because it is the true nature of all.
तच्छक्तिर्माया जडसामान्यात्
Its power is māyā, because of its general insentience.
व्यापकत्वाद्व्याप्यानाम्
Because it pervades those that are pervaded.
न प्राणिबुद्धिभ्योऽसम्भवात्
Not from living beings or intellects, because it is impossible.
निर्मायोच्चावचं श्रुतीश्च निर्मिमीते पितृवत्
He creates the higher and lower scriptures, free from māyā, like a father.
मिश्रोपदेशान्नेति चेन्न स्वल्पत्वात्
If it is said that the teachings are mixed, it is not so, because they are few.
