राजगृहभोजनादिषु तथैव दृष्टत्वात
Because it is seen likewise in eating at the royal palace and other such things.
न तेन राजपरितोषः, क्षुधशान्तिर्वा
By that, neither the king's satisfaction nor the appeasement of hunger occurs.
तस्मात्सैव ग्राह्या मुमुक्षुभिः
Therefore, only that should be accepted by those seeking liberation.
तस्याः साधनानि गायन्त्याचार्याः
Teachers sing of its means.
तत्तु विषयत्यागात्सङ्गत्यागाच्च
That is through renunciation of sense objects and renunciation of attachment.
अव्यावृत्तभजनात्१२
Through uninterrupted devotion.
लोकेऽपि भगवद्गुणश्रवणकीर्तनात
Even in the world, through hearing and singing the qualities of the Lord.
मुख्यतस्तु महत्कृपयैव भगवत्कृपालेशाद्वा
Primarily, it is attained only through the great mercy of the exalted, or by a fragment of the Lord’s grace.
महत्सङ्गस्तु दुर्लभोऽगम्योऽमोघश्च
Association with the exalted is rare, difficult to approach, and unfailing.
लभ्यतेऽपि तत्कृपयैव
Even that is obtained only by their mercy.
तस्मिंस्तज्जने भेदाभावात
In them, in such persons, there is no division.
तदेव साध्यतां तदेव साध्यताम्
Let that alone be pursued, let that alone be pursued.
दुःसङ्गः सर्वथैव त्याज्यः
Association with the unworthy must be abandoned in every way.
कामक्रोधमोहस्मृतिभ्रंशबुद्दिनाशसर्वनाशकारणत्वात
Because it causes desire, anger, delusion, loss of memory, destruction of intellect, and ruin of everything.
तरङ्गायिता अपीमे सङ्गात्समुद्रायन्ति
Even these, though only like ripples, through association become like the ocean.
कस्तरति कस्तरति मायां यः सङ्गं त्यजति यो महानुभावं सेवते निर्ममो भवति
Who crosses, who crosses illusion? He who abandons association, who serves the great, who becomes free from possessiveness.
यो विविक्तस्थानं सेवते, यो लोकबन्धमुन्मूलयति निस्त्रैगुण्यो भवति, यो योगक्षेमं त्यजति
He who seeks solitary places, who uproots worldly bondage, who becomes free from the three qualities, who abandons concern for gain and preservation.
यः कर्मफलं त्यजति, कर्माणि संन्यस्यति ततो निर्द्वन्द्वो भवति
He who renounces the fruit of action, who relinquishes actions, then becomes free from duality.
यो वेदानपि सन्न्यस्यति, केवलमविच्छिन्नानुरागं लभते
He who even renounces the Vedas, attains uninterrupted, pure love alone.
स तरति स तरति लोकांस्तारयति
He crosses, he crosses; he leads others across.
अनिर्वचनीयं प्रेमस्वरूपम्
Its nature is love, which cannot be described.
मूकास्वादनवत
It is like the taste experienced by the mute.
प्रकाशयते क्वापि पात्रे
It reveals itself somewhere, to a worthy vessel.
गुणरहितं कामनारहितं प्रतिक्षणवर्धमानमविच्छिन्नं सूक्ष्मतरमनुभवरूपम्
It is devoid of qualities, devoid of desire, ever increasing at every moment, uninterrupted, subtler than subtle, and of the nature of experience.
तत्प्राप्य तदेवावलोकयति, तदेव शृनोति, तदेव भाषयति, तदेव चिन्तयति
Having attained that, one beholds only that, hears only that, speaks only that, thinks only that.
गौणी त्रिधा गुणभेदादार्तादिभेदाद्वा
The secondary form (of devotion) is threefold, due to distinctions of qualities or distinctions such as affliction, etc.
उत्तरस्मादुत्तरस्मात्पूर्वपूर्वा श्रेयाय भवति
Each subsequent (form) is superior to the previous one.
अन्यस्मात्सौलभ्यं भक्तौ
Compared to others, devotion is more easily attained.
प्रमाणान्त्रस्यानपेक्षत्वात्स्वयं प्रमाणत्वात
Because it does not depend on any other means of knowledge, and is itself a means of knowledge.
शान्तिरूपात्परमानन्दरूपाच्च
Because it is of the nature of peace and of supreme bliss.
