श्री भगवानुवाच हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः। प्राधान्यतः कुरुश्रेष्ठ नास्त्यन्तो विस्तरस्य मे।।10.19।।
The Blessed Lord said: Very well, I shall declare to you My divine manifestations, the foremost ones, O best of the Kurus; for there is no end to My expanse.
अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः। अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च।।10.20।।
I am the Self, O Gudakesha, abiding in the hearts of all beings; I am the beginning, the middle, and also the end of all beings.
आदित्यानामहं विष्णुर्ज्योतिषां रविरंशुमान्। मरीचिर्मरुतामस्मि नक्षत्राणामहं शशी।।10.21।।
Among the Adityas I am Vishnu; among lights, the radiant sun; among the Maruts, I am Marichi; among stars, I am the moon.
वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः। इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना।।10.22।।
Among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; among the gods, I am Indra; among the senses, I am the mind; among beings, I am consciousness.
रुद्राणां शङ्करश्चास्मि वित्तेशो यक्षरक्षसाम्। वसूनां पावकश्चास्मि मेरुः शिखरिणामहम्।।10.23।।
Among the Rudras I am Shankara; among Yakshas and Rakshasas, I am the Lord of wealth; among the Vasus I am Agni; among mountains with peaks, I am Meru.
पुरोधसां च मुख्यं मां विद्धि पार्थ बृहस्पतिम्। सेनानीनामहं स्कन्दः सरसामस्मि सागरः।।10.24।।
Among priests, O Partha, know Me as the chief, Brihaspati; among commanders, I am Skanda; among bodies of water, I am the ocean.
महर्षीणां भृगुरहं गिरामस्म्येकमक्षरम्। यज्ञानां जपयज्ञोऽस्मि स्थावराणां हिमालयः।।10.25।।
Among the great seers, I am Bhrigu; among words, I am the single syllable Om; among sacrifices, I am the sacrifice of silent recitation; among immovable things, I am the Himalaya.
अश्वत्थः सर्ववृक्षाणां देवर्षीणां च नारदः। गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथः सिद्धानां कपिलो मुनिः।।10.26।।
Among all trees, I am the Ashvattha; among the divine sages, I am Narada; among the Gandharvas, I am Chitraratha; among the perfected beings, I am the sage Kapila.
उच्चैःश्रवसमश्वानां विद्धि माममृतोद्भवम्। ऐरावतं गजेन्द्राणां नराणां च नराधिपम्।।10.27।।
Among horses, know me as Ucchaisravas, born of nectar; among lordly elephants, I am Airavata; among men, I am the king.
आयुधानामहं वज्रं धेनूनामस्मि कामधुक्। प्रजनश्चास्मि कन्दर्पः सर्पाणामस्मि वासुकिः।।10.28।।
Among weapons, I am the thunderbolt; among cows, I am Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow; among causes of generation, I am Kandarpa, the god of love; among serpents, I am Vasuki.
अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम्। पितृ़णामर्यमा चास्मि यमः संयमतामहम्।।10.29।।
Among the Nagas, I am Ananta; among aquatic beings, I am Varuna; among ancestors, I am Aryaman; among controllers, I am Yama.
प्रह्लादश्चास्मि दैत्यानां कालः कलयतामहम्। मृगाणां च मृगेन्द्रोऽहं वैनतेयश्च पक्षिणाम्।।10.30।।
Among the Daityas, I am Prahlada; among those who measure time, I am Time itself; among animals, I am the lion; among birds, I am Garuda, the son of Vinata.
पवनः पवतामस्मि रामः शस्त्रभृतामहम्। झषाणां मकरश्चास्मि स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी।।10.31।।
Among purifiers, I am the wind; among warriors bearing weapons, I am Rama; among fishes, I am the makara; among rivers, I am the Ganges.
सर्गाणामादिरन्तश्च मध्यं चैवाहमर्जुन। अध्यात्मविद्या विद्यानां वादः प्रवदतामहम्।।10.32।।
Of creations, I am the beginning, the end, and also the middle, O Arjuna; among sciences, I am the science of the Self; among those who debate, I am the reasoning.
अक्षराणामकारोऽस्मि द्वन्द्वः सामासिकस्य च। अहमेवाक्षयः कालो धाताऽहं विश्वतोमुखः।।10.33।।
Among letters, I am the letter A; among compound words, I am the dual; I am indeed the inexhaustible Time, the all-faced creator.
मृत्युः सर्वहरश्चाहमुद्भवश्च भविष्यताम्। कीर्तिः श्रीर्वाक्च नारीणां स्मृतिर्मेधा धृतिः क्षमा।।10.34।।
I am death, the destroyer of all; and the origin of things yet to be; among women, I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness, and forgiveness.
बृहत्साम तथा साम्नां गायत्री छन्दसामहम्। मासानां मार्गशीर्षोऽहमृतूनां कुसुमाकरः।।10.35।।
Among hymns of the Sama Veda, I am the Brihat-Saman; among meters, I am the Gayatri; among months, I am Margashirsha; among seasons, I am the season of flowers.
द्यूतं छलयतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम्। जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम्।।10.36।।
Among those who deceive, I am gambling; among the radiant, I am splendor; I am victory, I am resolve, I am the virtue of the virtuous.
वृष्णीनां वासुदेवोऽस्मि पाण्डवानां धनंजयः। मुनीनामप्यहं व्यासः कवीनामुशना कविः।।10.37।।
Among the Vrishnis, I am Vasudeva; among the Pandavas, I am Dhananjaya; among sages, I am Vyasa; among poets, I am Ushanas the seer.
दण्डो दमयतामस्मि नीतिरस्मि जिगीषताम्। मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम्।।10.38।।
Among those who discipline, I am punishment; among those who seek victory, I am policy; among secrets, I am silence; among the wise, I am knowledge.
यच्चापि सर्वभूतानां बीजं तदहमर्जुन। न तदस्ति विना यत्स्यान्मया भूतं चराचरम्।।10.39।।
And whatever is the seed of all beings, that am I, O Arjuna; there is nothing, moving or unmoving, that can exist without Me.
नान्तोऽस्ति मम दिव्यानां विभूतीनां परंतप। एष तूद्देशतः प्रोक्तो विभूतेर्विस्तरो मया।।10.40।।
There is no end to My divine manifestations, O scorcher of foes; what I have spoken is only a brief statement of My glories.
यद्यद्विभूतिमत्सत्त्वं श्रीमदूर्जितमेव वा। तत्तदेवावगच्छ त्वं मम तेजोंऽशसंभवम्।।10.41।।
Whatever being is possessed of majesty, beauty, or strength, know that to be born from a portion of My radiance.
अथवा बहुनैतेन किं ज्ञातेन तवार्जुन। विष्टभ्याहमिदं कृत्स्नमेकांशेन स्थितो जगत्।।10.42।।
But what need is there, O Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single portion of Myself, I sustain this entire universe.
अर्जुन उवाच मदनुग्रहाय परमं गुह्यमध्यात्मसंज्ञितम्। यत्त्वयोक्तं वचस्तेन मोहोऽयं विगतो मम।।11.1।।
Arjuna said: For my benefit, you have spoken the supreme secret called spiritual knowledge; by those words, my confusion has been dispelled.
भवाप्ययौ हि भूतानां श्रुतौ विस्तरशो मया। त्वत्तः कमलपत्राक्ष माहात्म्यमपि चाव्ययम्।।11.2।।
I have heard in detail from you about the origin and dissolution of beings, O lotus-eyed one, and also about your imperishable greatness.
एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वमात्मानं परमेश्वर। द्रष्टुमिच्छामि ते रूपमैश्वरं पुरुषोत्तम।।11.3।।
It is just as you have described yourself, O Supreme Lord; yet, O Best of Persons, I wish to see your divine form.
मन्यसे यदि तच्छक्यं मया द्रष्टुमिति प्रभो। योगेश्वर ततो मे त्वं दर्शयाऽत्मानमव्ययम्।।11.4।।
If you think that I am able to behold it, O Master, then, O Lord of Yoga, reveal to me your imperishable self.
श्री भगवानुवाच पश्य मे पार्थ रूपाणि शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः। नानाविधानि दिव्यानि नानावर्णाकृतीनि च।।11.5।।
The Blessed Lord said: Behold, O Partha, my forms, hundreds and thousands, of various kinds, divine, of many colors and shapes.
पश्यादित्यान्वसून्रुद्रानश्िवनौ मरुतस्तथा। बहून्यदृष्टपूर्वाणि पश्याऽश्चर्याणि भारत।।11.6।।
See the Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, Ashvins, and Maruts, as well as many wonders never seen before, O Bharata.
