Endowed with that faith, he seeks to worship that form and obtains from it his desired objects, which are indeed granted by Me alone.
But the fruit gained by those of limited understanding is temporary; those who worship the gods go to the gods, but My devotees come to Me.
The unwise think of Me, the unmanifest, as having become manifest, not knowing My higher, imperishable, and supreme nature.
I am not manifest to all, being veiled by My yoga-maya; this deluded world does not recognize Me, the unborn and imperishable.
I know, O Arjuna, the past, present, and future beings; but no one knows Me.
O descendant of Bharata, all beings become deluded at birth by the confusion arising from the pairs of opposites, born of desire and aversion.
But those people whose sin has ended, who perform virtuous deeds, freed from the confusion of the pairs of opposites, worship me with firm resolve.
Those who strive for liberation from old age and death, taking refuge in me, know Brahman, the entirety of spiritual knowledge, and all action.
Those who know me as the Supreme with regard to beings, divinities, and sacrifices, their minds steadfast, know me even at the time of departure.
Arjuna said: What is Brahman? What is the Self? What is action, O Supreme Person? What is called the Supreme with regard to beings, and what is said to be the Supreme with regard to divinities?
O Madhusudana, how and who is the Supreme with regard to sacrifice in this body? And how are you to be known at the time of departure by those of controlled mind?
The Blessed Lord said: The imperishable is the supreme Brahman; one's own nature is called the Self; the creative force that brings forth the existence of beings is called action.
The perishable aspect is the Supreme with regard to beings; the Purusha is the Supreme with regard to divinities; and I alone am the Supreme with regard to sacrifice in this body, O best among embodied beings.
And whoever, at the end, remembers me and leaves the body, he attains my state; there is no doubt about this.
O son of Kunti, whatever state one remembers when leaving the body, that state he attains, being always absorbed in that disposition.
Therefore, at all times, remember me and fight; with mind and intellect dedicated to me, you will surely come to me, without doubt.
With a mind disciplined by the practice of yoga, not wandering elsewhere, one who constantly contemplates the Supreme Divine Person, O Partha, attains him.
He who remembers the poet, the ancient, the ruler, subtler than the subtle, the sustainer of all, whose form is inconceivable, radiant like the sun, beyond darkness—
At the time of departure, with unwavering mind, united in devotion and by the power of yoga, placing the life-breath between the eyebrows, he attains that Supreme Divine Person.
That imperishable state which the knowers of the Vedas declare, which ascetics free from passion enter, which desiring, they practice celibacy—I will briefly explain to you that goal.
Restraining all the gates of the senses, confining the mind in the heart, establishing the life-breath at the crown of the head, engaged in the steadfastness of yoga—
Uttering the single syllable 'Om', which is Brahman, and remembering me, whoever departs, leaving the body, attains the supreme destination.
O Partha, for the yogi who remembers me constantly, with undistracted mind, I am easily attainable, ever united with me.
Having reached me, the great souls who have attained supreme perfection do not undergo rebirth in this abode of suffering and impermanence.
All worlds, even up to Brahma's realm, are subject to repeated return, O Arjuna; but upon reaching me, O son of Kunti, there is no further rebirth.
Those who know that a day of Brahma lasts for a thousand ages, and a night for a thousand ages, are truly aware of the nature of day and night.
From the unmanifest, all beings come forth at the arrival of day; at the arrival of night, they dissolve into that same unmanifest.
This group of beings, repeatedly coming into existence, is dissolved at the coming of night, O Partha, and arises again at the coming of day, compelled by nature.
But beyond that unmanifest exists another unmanifest, eternal, which does not perish even when all beings are destroyed.
