Krishna, with infinite compassion, spoke to Arjuna, “If you keep your mind fixed on me, my grace will carry you across all difficulties. But if, out of pride, you refuse to listen, you will bring about your own destruction. Should you think, relying on your ego, ‘I will not fight,’ know that this resolve is in vain—for your very nature will compel you to act. Bound by the actions that arise from your own nature, O son of Kunti, you will be driven, even against your will, to do what you do not wish, because of your delusion. Understand, Arjuna, that the Lord dwells in the hearts of all beings, causing them to move as if mounted on a machine, by his divine power of illusion. Therefore, surrender yourself wholly to Him. By His grace, you will attain supreme peace and the eternal abode. Thus, I have shared with you the most secret of all knowledge. Reflect deeply upon it, and then act as you see fit. Yet, because you are so dear to me, listen again to my supreme word, the most confidential of all. I speak this for your highest good: Fix your mind on me, become my devotee, worship me, bow down to me. Surely you will come to me; this I promise truly, for you are precious to me. Abandon all other duties and take refuge in me alone. I will liberate you from all sins—do not grieve. But remember, this teaching should never be revealed to one who lacks austerity, devotion, or willingness to listen, nor to one who mocks me. Whoever shares this supreme secret among my devotees, with unwavering devotion to me, will surely come to me. Among all men, none will be dearer to me than such a one, nor will there ever be anyone on earth more beloved to me. And whoever studies this sacred dialogue between us, I consider him to be worshipping me through the sacrifice of knowledge. Even one who hears this with faith and without malice will be freed from evil and attain the auspicious worlds of the virtuous. Then Krishna asked, “O Partha, have you listened with a focused mind? Has your ignorance and confusion now been dispelled, O Dhananjaya?” Arjuna replied, “My delusion is gone, and my memory restored by your grace, O Achyuta. I stand firm, free from doubt. I will follow your command.” Sanjaya, who witnessed this divine exchange, then spoke: “Thus I have heard this wondrous and thrilling dialogue between Vasudeva and the great-hearted Partha. By the grace of Vyasa, I have listened to this supreme secret—the yoga directly spoken by Krishna, the Lord of Yoga. O King, as I recall again and again this holy and marvelous conversation between Keshava and Arjuna, I rejoice over and over. And as I remember again and again the most astonishing form of Hari, I am filled with amazement and joy. Wherever Krishna, the Lord of Yoga, is present, and wherever Arjuna, the mighty archer, stands, there will surely be fortune, victory, prosperity, and steadfast righteousness. This, O King, is my firm conviction.
