ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ, ದೇವತೆಗಳು, ಪಿತೃಗಳು, ಮಾನವರು, ಗಂಧರ್ವರು ಮತ್ತು ಅಪ್ಸರಸರು—all these beings were born from what remained after the great act of creation. The gods who dwell in the heavens and those established there all emerged from this remnant. Once, from the very house of intention, when ಕ್ರೋಧ (wrath) brought forth the wife, questions arose: “Who were her offspring? Among them, who were the greatest, who became the eldest and best?” Within the vast ocean, austerity (ತಪಸ್ಸು) and action (ಕರ್ಮ) existed together. These were the true offspring, the noblest among all. From them, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನೇ ಹಿರಿಯನು, ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. In ancient times, from those very gods, ten together were born. Whoever truly knows these ten may today declare the greatness of creation. Alongside them came breath and exhalation, sight and hearing, the imperishable and the perishable, expansion and upward breath, speech and mind—all these brought forth intention. At that time, the seasons themselves were unborn. Then, the creator, along with ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿ, ಇಂದ್ರ, ಅಗ್ನಿ, ಮತ್ತು ಅಶ್ವಿನಿಗಳು—all wondered whom they should worship as the eldest. Within the vast ocean, austerity and action were present, and from action was born austerity, which they revered as the eldest. There was an ancient earth, known only to the creators. Whoever knows its true name can consider themselves a knower of the most ancient truths. Questions arose: From where did ಇಂದ್ರ arise? From where did ಸೋಮ, ಅಗ್ನಿ, ತ್ವಷ್ಟೃ, ಮತ್ತು ಧಾತೃ come into being? The answer came: From each, the same emerged—ಇಂದ್ರನಿಂದ ಇಂದ್ರ, ಸೋಮದಿಂದ ಸೋಮ, ಅಗ್ನಿಯಿಂದ ಅಗ್ನಿ, ತ್ವಷ್ಟೃನಿಂದ ತ್ವಷ್ಟೃ, ಧಾತೃನಿಂದ ಧಾತೃ. Those ten gods, born before all others, after giving the world to their sons, now dwell in realms unknown. When the body was formed—hair, bone, sinew, flesh, marrow, all fashioned together—into which world did the maker enter? From where were hair, sinew, bones, limbs, joints, and flesh gathered? The gods called ಸಂಚಿಕಗಳು gathered all these materials, and after assembling everything, the gods entered the mortal man. Who arranged the thighs, feet with bones, head, hands, mouth, back, ribs, and sides together? The earth herself, covering everything in skin, joined head, hands, mouth, tongue, neck, and jaws together. That great body, assembled with all its joints, shone forth—but who brought color into it? All the gods sought after this, but the wise bride, wife of the lord of power, recognized it and brought color into the body. When ತ್ವಷ್ಟೃ and his father divided and made a dwelling place, the gods entered the mortal man. Along with them, sleep, drowsiness, decay, and evil—these deities entered the body. Old age, baldness, and greyness too found their place within. Theft, wrongdoing, sin, truth, sacrifice, great glory, strength, sovereignty, and vigor—all these qualities entered the body. Prosperity and adversity, gifts and refusals, every form of hunger and thirst took their place. Blame and blamelessness, the power to strike or not, faith, generosity, and lack of faith also entered. Knowledge and ignorance, and all that is to be taught—the ವೇದಗಳು, ಋಕ್ಸಾಮನು, ಯಜುಸ್ಸು—all entered the body. Joys, delights, pleasures, supreme happiness, laughter, harmlessness, and dances filled the body. Speech, babbling, desires, idle talk—both united and scattered—entered as well. The in-breath and out-breath, sight and hearing, the two earths, what is firm and what is ground, vital air and upward breath, speech and mind—all these move with the body. Blessings, commands, permissions, distinctions, every resolve and intention entered the body. The tendencies to steal and dwell, haste and misery, what is hidden, pure, gross, rejected, and repulsive—all these settled within. Bone was made the fuel-stick, and eight waters settled down. Semen became the clarified butter, and thus the gods entered the person. The waters, the deities, the sovereign order, along with ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ್, all entered the body, with ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ್ himself dwelling within and ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿ presiding over all. The sun became the eye, the wind became the breath, and the gods gave the other self to ಅಗ್ನಿ. Therefore, the wise recognize this person as ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ್, for within him all the deities reside, just as cows gather in a pen. With the first measure, the self moves everywhere in threefold ways—sometimes here, sometimes there, sometimes remaining still. The body, placed in the waters, grown within mothers, is set within; its shadow lies inside, and thus it is called ‘shadow.’ All arms, arrows, the power of bows, swords, axes, weapons, and the resolve in the heart—all these, O ಅರ್ಬುಡ, are yours. Reveal them to us for the sight of our enemies, and show forth the mighty ones. Rise up, O divine beings, join together as our friends; let those seen and unseen protect us, especially those friendly in ಅರ್ಬುಡ. Rise up, take hold, bind together; let the armies of our enemies be struck down in ಅರ್ಬುಡ. ಅರ್ಬುಡ is the name of the god, and ನ್ಯರ್ಬುಡಿ is the lord—by these two, the midspace and the great earth are encompassed. With them, and with ಇಂದ್ರ, I seek victory for my army. Rise up, O divine beings in ಅರ್ಬುಡ, together with the army; break the enemies’ forces and surround them with enjoyments. ಈ ರೀತಿ, ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ಮಹಾ ರಹಸ್ಯಗಳು, ದೇಹದೊಳಗಿನ ದೇವತೆಗಳ ವಾಸಸ್ಥಾನ, ಮತ್ತು ದೇವಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ—all these truths are woven together, teaching us the profound unity of the cosmos and the divinity within every being.
