Brahman was born as the first, in the beginning, before all; with radiance, Vena spread forth; the deep foundations are his models; from the existent and the non-existent, he brought forth offspring.
Those of you who were unattainable, who performed the first deeds—may they not harm our heroes here; that is what was established before.
With a thousand streams, they sounded together in the sky, in heaven, with honeyed tongues; their spies do not close their eyes, ever watchful, at every step, they are bonds for the path.
Circle around, drive forth for the gaining of strength; break through the obstacles; you are the thirteenth month, the house of Indra, with a name, for the sake of victory.
With this, may you drive away the hostile ones—svāhā! O Soma and Rudras, sharp-weaponed, sharp-pointed, gracious, come here and grant us happiness.
With this, may you drive away the hostile ones—svāhā! O Soma and Rudras, sharp-weaponed, sharp-pointed, gracious, come here and grant us happiness.
With this, may you remove the hostile ones—svāhā! O Soma and Rudras, sharp-weaponed, sharp-pointed, gracious, come here and grant us happiness.
Release us from evil and blame; accept our sacrifice; place immortality among us.
The missiles of the eye, the missiles of the mind, the missiles of speech, and the missiles of austerity—may those intentions and thoughts of theirs be turned back, who wish to harm us.
Whoever, with eye, mind, thought, or intention, seeks to harm us—O Agni, turn back those intentions and thoughts of theirs—svāhā!
You are the house of Indra; to you I surrender, to you I enter; all-encompassing, all-man, all-soul, all-bodied—together with all that is mine, with that.
You are the protection of Indra; to you I surrender, to you I enter; all-encompassing, all-man, all-soul, all-bodied—together with all that is mine, with that.
You are Indra's armor. To you I dedicate myself, to you I enter in; all-encompassing, all-person, all-self, all-bodied—together with all that is mine, with that I join you.
You are Indra's protection. To you I dedicate myself, to you I enter in; all-encompassing, all-person, all-self, all-bodied—together with all that is mine, with that I join you.
Bring us forward, do not leave us behind in hostility; do not let the right-hand path be led away from us. Homage to the one who brings prosperity, to non-failure; homage also to the absence of enmity.
To that enmity, to the sacrificer, to the one who binds the man, I offer my reverence; to him I bow—may you not cause my destruction or distress.
May the destruction made by the gods, by day and by night, be averted from us. May we pass beyond enmity; homage also to the absence of enmity.
Seeking Sarasvatī, Anumati, and Bhaga, we call upon them; may I speak words that are favored, sweet, and pleasing among the invocations to the gods.
Whomever I seek today with speech, with mind yoked to Sarasvatī, may faith find him today—granted by tawny Soma.
May neither destruction nor speech be taken from us; O Indra and Agni, bring us wealth. May all who wish to give today turn away enmity from us.
Go far away, O unsuccessful one; we lead your weapon away from you. I know you—blinking, striking, O enmity.
Even naked, you become, joining with people in dreams; the mind of enmity, the intention of failure, and that of a man.
She who is great, of great pride, who shatters all hopes— to that golden-haired Nirṛti I offer homage.
Golden-hued, fortunate, with golden palace, vast— to that golden-robed, hostile one I offer homage.
With Vaikaṅkata fuel, carry the offering to the gods. O Agni, delight in it here; may all come to my invocation.
O Indra, come to my invocation; I will perform this—hear it. These Indra-like helpers, let them bow down my intention. With them, O Jātavedas, may we achieve strength, preserving our bodies.
If some godless one here or there wishes to join the gods, may Agni not carry his offering; may the gods not accept his invocation—let this offering be mine alone.
Let the Indra-like helpers run ahead, strike with Indra's command. Break the ram like a wolf; let him live, do not let his life slip away, even if he is bound.
Whomever they have set up as priest for the removal of evil, O Indra, may that one be placed beneath you; I cast him down to death.
If, in ancient times, the gods made prayers and armor for themselves, making protection for body and life, whatever they used—make all that flavorless for him.
