To the quarters I have made an offering to the Moon; may it be fulfilled. Just as I have made an offering to the Moon in the directions, so may all bow down to me, may they indeed bow down.
The directions are cows, and their calf is the Moon. With that Moon as the calf, may I draw forth desired strength, nourishment, long life, foremost offspring, and wealth—svāhā.
Within Agni, Agni moves, having entered; the son of the seers, the protector from curses. With reverence and homage I offer to you; may I not share in the divided portion of the gods’ work.
O Jātavedas, purified by heart and mind, knowing all the divine works, your seven mouths, O Jātavedas—to them I make offering; may you accept this oblation.

Those who offer to Jātavedas from below, from the lower direction, who assail us—may they be turned away by Earth as the priest; I strike them back with a counter-charm.
Those who offer to Jātavedas from the midspace, from the intermediate direction, who assail us—may they be turned away by Vāyu as the priest; I strike them back with a counter-charm.
Those who offer to Jātavedas from above, from the upper direction, who assail us—may they be turned away by Sūrya as the priest; I strike them back with a counter-charm.
Those who offer to Jātavedas from the intermediate regions of the directions, who assail us from all sides—may they be turned away by Brahman as the priest; I strike them back with a counter-charm.
The one whose mantra is powerful, who has arisen from the womb, immortal, mighty, ever-growing, of noble birth; unassailable, shining, like Ahi, Trita the supporter has upheld the three.
He who first established the laws, from there you make many forms; the supporter first entered the womb—he who understood the unspoken speech.
He who shed his form for burning, flowing gold, pure ones following their own nature; here the immortal names are established, may the garments enter us, O clans.
When these two, advancing, reached the ancient crossing, standing firm in being and non-being, unaging; the poet, the mothers of the dry one, longing for the yoke, may you assign the lord for the offspring.
Therefore, to you, great one, of wide might, I offer homage; the poet, with poetry, I perform for you. When the two, coming together, approach, here the great earth and sky have expanded the enclosing space.
Seven boundaries the poets have fashioned; of these I call upon one to come near. The pillar of iron stood in the nest of likeness, in the expanse of paths, in the supports.
I move among the immortal and the mighty, performing the vow of the Asura; the Asura spirit is in my body, and that is the delight of the wise. And Shakra may place the treasure, or the giver of offerings may attain what is sought through strength.
The son invokes his father, the kshatriya, the eldest, calling upon him for well-being and proper conduct. O Varuna, let me see those places of yours; I fashion forms from your established order.
With half, I fill with nourishment; with the other half, you increase in vigor, O immortal one. We strengthen the mighty friend, Varuna, the son of Aditi, the powerful one. The poets have spoken these forms to him, the true-spoken lord of earth and heaven.
This is indeed the eldest in the worlds, from whom the sacrifice, fierce and splendid, arises. Born suddenly, he drives away enemies; all powers rejoice in him.
Growing in might, possessing great strength, he gives fear to the enemy for the servant. He protects and he destroys; he is victorious. They bow to you, O powerful one, in the offerings.
They fill you with abundant wisdom, for twice and thrice these powers arise. The sweetest of the sweet, release the delight; bring forth the honey, and join it with the honeyed ones.
Even if the sages praise you as victorious in wealth and battle, strengthen your firm body, O mighty one. Let not the evil-minded or the sorrowful harm you.
With you, we are confident in battles, seeing many opportunities for victory. I urge your weapons with words; I strengthen your powers with prayer.
You place that in the lower and the higher, where you dwell in the home. Establish the mother, the moving one; bring forth many forms.
Praise the one of vast stature, of many paths, the strong, the best among the accomplished. He shows forth with might and great strength; he reveals the measure of the earth.
These prayers, made in the vast heaven, are for Indra, the foremost, the radiant, the lord of light. He rules the great lineage, the self-ruler; even the swift, all-colored, ascetic ones belong to him.
Thus the great one of the vast heaven, Atharvan, spoke of his own body as Indra. The two sisters, the mothers, urge him on; they increase him with might and strengthen him.
