उत्समक्षितं व्यचन्ति ये सदा य आसिञ्चन्ति रसमोषधीषु । पुरो दधे मरुतः पृश्निमातॄंस्ते नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
Those who always distribute the inexhaustible, who pour out sap into the plants; the Maruts, with Pṛśni as their mother, I set before me—may they release us from sin.
पयो धेनूनां रसमोषधीनां जवमर्वतां कवयो य इन्वथ । शग्मा भवन्तु मरुतो नः स्योनास्ते नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
The milk of cows, the sap of plants, the speed of swift horses, which the wise ones inspire; may the Maruts be gracious to us—may they release us from sin.
अपः समुद्राद्दिवमुद्वहन्ति दिवस्पृथिवीमभि ये सृजन्ति । ये अद्भिरीशाना मरुतश्चरन्ति ते नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
Waters they carry from the ocean to the sky, from the sky they send forth upon the earth; those Maruts who rule with the waters—may they release us from sin.
ये कीलालेन तर्पयन्ति ये घृतेन ये वा वयो मेदसा संसृजन्ति । ये अद्भिरीशाना मरुतो वर्षयन्ति ते नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
Those who are satisfied with the libation, with ghee, or who join the birds with fat; those Maruts who rule with the waters, who make it rain—may they release us from sin.
यदीदिदं मरुतो मारुतेन यदि देवा दैव्येनेदृगार । यूयमीशिध्वे वसवस्तस्य निष्कृतेस्ते नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
If this has happened, O Maruts, by your wind, or by the gods, by divine ordinance, you, O givers of wealth, are the rulers of that expiation—may you release us from sin.
तिग्ममनीकं विदितं सहस्वन् मारुतं शर्धः पृतनासूग्रम् । स्तौमि मरुतो नाथितो जोहवीमि ते नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
Fierce-faced, renowned, mighty, the Marut host, strong in battle and formidable; I praise the Maruts, seeking help, I call upon you—may you release us from sin.
भवाशर्वौ मन्वे वां तस्य वित्तं ययोर्वामिदं प्रदिशि यद्विरोचते । यावस्येशाथे द्विपदो यौ चतुष्पदस्तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
O Bhava and Sharva, I honor you; know of that which belongs to you, whatever shines forth in this region; you are the lords of all that has two feet and four—may you release us from sin.
ययोरभ्यभ्व उत यद्दूरे चिद्यौ विदिताविषुभृतामसिष्ठौ । यावस्येशथे द्विपदो यौ चतुष्पदस्तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
Whatever is near you, or even what is far, you know it all, you two who hold the bow; you are the lords of all that has two feet and four—may you release us from sin.
सहस्राक्षौ वृत्रहना हुवेहं दूरेगव्यूती स्तुवन्न् एम्युग्रौ । यावस्येशथे द्विपदो यौ चतुष्पदस्तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
A thousand-eyed, slayers of Vṛtra, I call you here, praising you, O mighty ones, even from afar; you are the lords of all that has two feet and four—may you release us from sin.
यावारेभाथे बहु साकमग्रे प्र चेदस्राष्ट्रमभिभां जनेषु । यावस्येशथे द्विपदो यौ चतुष्पदस्तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
As far as you two go together, in the midst of the many, you have spread your rule among the people; you are the lords of all that has two feet and four—may you release us from sin.
ययोर्वधान् नापपद्यते कश्चनान्तर्देवेषूत मानुषेषु । यावस्येशथे द्विपदो यौ चतुष्पदस्तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
Of those two whose weapon no one can withstand, neither among gods nor among men—O you two, who rule over both bipeds and quadrupeds, release us from sin.
यः कृत्याकृन् मूलकृद्यातुधानो नि तस्मिन् धत्तं वज्रमुग्रौ । यावस्येशथे द्विपदो यौ चतुष्पदस्तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
Against the sorcerer, the root-cutter, the demon—upon him, O mighty ones, place your thunderbolt! O you two, who rule over both bipeds and quadrupeds, release us from sin.
अधि नो ब्रूतं पृतनासूग्रौ सं वज्रेण सृजतं यः किमीदी । स्तौमि भवाशर्वौ नाथितो जोहवीमि तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
Declare yourselves for us in battles, O mighty ones; together, strike down with the thunderbolt whoever is hostile. I praise you, O Bhava and Sharva, seeking your protection; I call upon you—release us from sin.
मन्वे वां मित्रावरुणावृतावृधौ सचेतसौ द्रुह्वणो यौ नुदेथे । प्र सत्यावानमवथो भरेषु तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
I think of you, Mitra and Varuṇa, who uphold order, who are wise, who drive away the deceitful. You who protect the truthful in battles—release us from sin.
सचेतसौ द्रुह्वणो यौ नुदेथे प्र सत्यावानमवथो भरेषु । यौ गच्छथो नृचक्षसौ बभ्रुणा सुतं तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
You who are wise, who drive away the deceitful, who protect the truthful in battles; you who, with keen vision, go with the tawny one to the pressed Soma—release us from sin.
यावङ्गिरसमवथो यावगस्तिं मित्रावरुणा जमदग्निमत्त्रिम् । यौ कश्यपमवथो यौ वसिष्ठं तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
You who protected Angiras, you who protected Agasti, O Mitra and Varuṇa, Jamadagni and Atri; you who protected Kashyapa, you who protected Vasiṣṭha—release us from sin.
यौ श्यावाश्वमवथो वाध्र्यश्वं मित्रावरुणा पुरुमीढमत्त्रिम् । यौ विमदमवथो सप्तवध्रिं तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
You who protected Shyavashva, you who protected Vadhryashva, O Mitra and Varuṇa, Purumīḍha and Atri; you who protected Vimada, you who protected Saptavadhri—release us from sin.
यौ भरद्वाजमवथो यौ गविष्ठिरं विश्वामित्रं वरुण मित्र कुत्सम् । यौ कक्षीवन्तमवथो प्रोत कण्वं तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
You who protected Bharadvāja, you who protected Gaviṣṭhira, Viśvāmitra, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Kutsa; you who protected Kakṣīvān, you who protected Kaṇva—release us from sin.
यौ मेधातिथिमवथो यौ त्रिशोकं मित्रावरुणावुशनां काव्यं यौ । यौ गोतममवथो प्रोत मुग्दलं तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
You who protected Medhātithi, you who protected Triśoka, O Mitra and Varuṇa, Uśanā Kāvyā; you who protected Gotama, you who protected Mugdala—release us from sin.
ययो रथः सत्यवर्त्म र्जुरश्मिर्मिथुया चरन्तमभियाति दूषयन् । स्तौमि मित्रावरुणौ नाथितो जोहवीमि तौ नो मुञ्चतमंहसः
Whose chariot has a true path and straight reins, who approaches the one acting wrongly—him you pursue. I praise Mitra and Varuṇa, seeking protection; I call upon you—release us from sin.
अहं रुद्रेभिर्वसुभिश्चराम्यहमादित्यैरुत विश्वदेवैः । अहं मित्रावरुणोभा बिभर्म्यहमिन्द्राग्नी अहमश्विनोभा
I move with the Rudras and the Vasus; I move with the Ādityas and all the gods. I bear Mitra and Varuṇa, both Ashvins; I bear Indra and Agni.
अहं राष्ट्री संगमनी वसूनां चिकितुषी प्रथमा यज्ञियानाम् । तां मा देवा व्यदधुः पुरुत्रा भूरिस्थात्रां भूर्यावेशयन्तः
I am the sovereign, the gatherer of treasures, the wise, the foremost among those worthy of sacrifice. The gods have distributed me in many places, making me manifold, abiding in many forms.
अहमेव स्वयमिदं वदामि जुष्टं देवानामुत मानुषाणाम् । यं कामये तन्तमुग्रं कृणोमि तं ब्रह्माणं तमृषिं तं सुमेधाम्
I alone declare this, which is pleasing to gods and to men. Whomever I desire, I make him powerful; I make him a priest, a sage, a wise man.
मया सोऽन्नमत्ति यो विपश्यति यः प्राणति य ईं शृणोत्युक्तम् । अमन्तवो मां त उप क्षियन्ति श्रुधि श्रुत श्रुद्धेयं ते वदामि
By me eats food, who sees, who breathes, who hears what is spoken. Those without understanding dwell near me. Hear, O hearer! I speak to you what is worthy of hearing.
अहं रुद्राय धनुरा तनोमि ब्रह्मद्विषे शरवे हन्तवा उ । अहं जनाय समदं कृणोमि अहं द्यावापृथिवी आ विवेश
For Rudra I stretch the bow, for the slayer of the Brahman-hater the arrow to be shot. I bring forth battle for the people; I pervade heaven and earth.
अहं सोममाहनसं बिभर्म्यहं त्वष्टारमुत पूषणं भगम् । अहं दधामि द्रविणा हविष्मते सुप्राव्या यजमानाय सुन्वते
I bear the pressed Soma, I bear Tvaṣṭṛ, Pūṣan, and Bhaga. I bestow wealth upon the sacrificer who offers with oblation, granting him a good dwelling.
अहं सुवे पितरमस्य मूर्धन् मम योनिरप्स्वन्तः समुद्रे । ततो वि तिष्ठे भुवनानि विश्वोतामूं द्यां वर्ष्मणोप स्पृशामि
I create the father on the summit of this world; my womb is within the waters, in the ocean. From there I extend over all beings; I touch that heaven with my greatness.
अहमेव वातैव प्र वाम्यारभमाणा भुवनानि विश्वा । परो दिवा पर एना पृथिव्यैतावती महिम्ना सं बभूव
I am the wind, breathing forth all worlds; I set all beings in motion. Beyond heaven, beyond this earth, so great is my majesty.
4.31 त्वया मन्यो सरथमारुजन्तो हर्षमाणा हृषितासो मरुत्वन् । तिग्मेषव आयुधा संशिशाना उप प्र यन्तु नरो अग्निरूपाः
With you, O Wrath, let us mount the chariot together, rejoicing, exulting, O Lord of the Maruts; let the men, sharp of arrow and bearing weapons, approach, fiery in form.
अग्निरिव मन्यो त्विषितः सहस्व सेनानीर्नः सहुरे हूत एधि । हत्वाय शत्रून् वि भजस्व वेद ओजो मिमानो वि मृधो नुदस्व
Like fire, O Wrath, blazing, endure; be our strong general, come when invoked; having struck down the enemies, divide the spoils, measure out strength, and drive away the foes.
