यस्याञ्जन प्रसर्पस्यङ्गमङ्गं परुष्परुः । ततो यक्ष्मं वि बाधस उग्रो मध्यमशीरिव
Whose ointment, spreading, touches limb after limb, harsh upon harsh; from that, drive away disease, fierce one, as a middle tooth does.
नैनं प्राप्नोति शपथो न कृत्या नाभिशोचनम् । नैनं विष्कन्धमश्नुते यस्त्वा बिभर्त्याञ्जन
Neither curse nor witchcraft nor lamentation reaches him; nor does the spreading poison touch him who bears you, ointment.
असन्मन्त्राद्दुष्वप्न्याद्दुष्कृताच्छमलादुत । दुर्हार्दश्चक्षुषो घोरात्तस्मान् नः पाह्याञ्जन
From evil incantation, from bad dreams, from misdeeds, from filth, from the fierce pain of the eye, protect us from that, ointment.
इदं विद्वान् आञ्जन सत्यं वक्ष्यामि नानृतम् । सनेयमश्वं गामहमात्मानं तव पूरुष
Knowing this, ointment, I speak truth, not falsehood: may I keep horse, cow, myself, and your man.
त्रयो दासा आञ्जनस्य तक्मा बलास आदहिः । वर्षिष्ठः पर्वतानां त्रिककुन् नाम ते पिता
Three servants of the ointment are fever, consumption, and burning; the eldest of the mountains, Trikakud, is your father.
यदाञ्जनं त्रैककुदं जातं हिमवतस्परि । यातूंश्च सर्वाञ्जम्भयत्सर्वाश्च यातुधान्यः
When the ointment, born of Trikakud, arose beyond the Himalaya, it subdues all sorcerers and all sorcerous beings.
यदि वासि त्रैककुदं यदि यामुनमुच्यसे । उभे ते भद्रे नाम्नी ताभ्यां नः पाह्याञ्जन
Whether you are Trikakud's, or are called Yamuna's, both your auspicious names, with them, protect us, ointment.
वाताज्जातो अन्तरिक्षाद्विद्युतो ज्योतिषस्परि । स नो हिरण्यजाः शङ्खः कृशनः पात्वंहसः
Born from wind, from the atmosphere, from lightning, from the light; may the golden-born conch, the slender one, protect us from harm.
यो अग्रतो रोचनानां समुद्रादधि जज्ञिषे । शङ्खेन हत्वा रक्षांस्यत्त्रिणो वि षहामहे
He who was born before the shining ones, from the ocean; by the conch, having struck down the demons, we overcome all obstacles.
शङ्खेनामीवाममतिं शङ्खेनोत सदान्वाः । शङ्खो नो विश्वभेषजः कृशनः पात्वंहसः
With the conch, we drive away disease and ill will; with the conch, also, perpetual enemies; the conch, universal medicine, slender one, protect us from harm.
दिवि जातः समुद्रजः सिन्धुतस्पर्याभृतः । स नो हिरण्यजाः शङ्ख आयुष्प्रतरणो मणिः
Born in heaven, born from the ocean, carried by the river; may the golden-born conch, the jewel that crosses over life, protect us.
समुद्राज्जातो मणिर्वृत्राज्जातो दिवाकरः । सो अस्मान्त्सर्वतः पातु हेत्या देवासुरेभ्यः
Born from the ocean, the jewel; born from the slayer of Vritra, the sun; may he protect us everywhere from the weapons of gods and demons.
हिरण्यानामेकोऽसि सोमात्त्वमधि जज्ञिषे । रथे त्वमसि दर्शत इषुधौ रोचनस्त्वं प्र ण आयूंषि तारिषत्
You are the only one among the golden ones; you were born from Soma; you are visible in the chariot, radiant in the quiver; may you carry us across to long life.
देवानामस्थि कृशनं बभूव तदात्मन्वच्चरत्यप्स्वन्तः । तत्ते बध्नाम्यायुषे वर्चसे बलाय दीर्घायुत्वाय शतशारदाय कार्शनस्त्वाभि रक्षतु
The slender bone of the gods became so; it moves in the waters according to its own nature; I bind you for life, for brilliance, for strength, for long years, for a hundred autumns; may the slender one protect you.
अनड्वान् दाधार पृथिवीमुत द्यामनड्वान् दाधारोर्वन्तरिक्षम् । अनड्वान् दाधार प्रदिशः षडुर्वीरनड्वान् विश्वं भुवनमा विवेश
The bull supported the earth, and the sky; the bull supported the broad atmosphere; the bull supported the six directions; the bull entered all the worlds.
अनड्वान् इन्द्रः स पशुभ्यो वि चष्टे त्रयां छक्रो वि मिमीते अध्वनः । भूतं भविष्यद्भुवना दुहानः सर्वा देवानां चरति व्रतानि
Indra is the bull; he looks after the cattle; the triple wheel measures out the paths; milking the past, the future, and the worlds, he follows all the vows of the gods.
इन्द्रो जातो मनुष्येष्वन्तर्घर्मस्तप्तश्चरति शोशुचानः । सुप्रजाः सन्त्स उदारे न सर्षद्यो नाश्नीयादनडुहो विजानन्
Indra, born among men, moves within as the heated Gharma, burning and glowing; let him not stir from the noble house where there are good offspring, nor eat, nor milk the Anaḍuha, being wise.
अनड्वान् दुहे सुकृतस्य लोक ऐनं प्याययति पवमानः पुरस्तात्। पर्जन्यो धारा मरुत ऊधो अस्य यज्ञः पयो दक्षिणा दोहो अस्य
The Anaḍuha, not to be milked, yields the world of good deeds; the purifying one fills him from the front; rain is his stream, the Maruts his udder, sacrifice his milk, the fee his milking.
यस्य नेशे यज्ञपतिर्न यज्ञो नास्य दातेशे न प्रतिग्रहीता । यो विश्वजिद्विश्वभृद्विश्वकर्मा घर्मं नो ब्रूत यतमश्चतुष्पात्
He whose lord is not the master of sacrifice, whose sacrifice is not his own, who has neither giver nor receiver; who conquers all, supports all, does all—tell us of that Gharma, striving, whether four-footed.
येन देवाः स्वरारुरुहुर्हित्वा शरीरममृतस्य नाभिम् । तेन गेष्म सुकृतस्य लोकं घर्मस्य व्रतेन तपसा यशस्यवः
By whom the gods ascended to heaven, leaving the body, reaching the navel of immortality—with that, let us attain the world of good deeds, by the vow and austerity of Gharma, renowned.
इन्द्रो रूपेणाग्निर्वहेन प्रजापतिः परमेष्ठी विराट्। विश्वानरे अक्रमत वैश्वानरे अक्रमतानडुह्यक्रमत । सोऽदृंहयत सोऽधारयत
Indra in form, Agni as the carrier, Prajapati the supreme, Virāj; all entered the universal fire, entered Vaiśvānara, entered the Anaḍuha; he made firm, he upheld.
मध्यमेतदनडुहो यत्रैष वह आहितः । एतावदस्य प्राचीनं यावान् प्रत्यङ्समाहितः
This is the middle of the Anaḍuha, where this carrier is placed; as far as it is placed to the east, so far it is placed to the west.
यो वेदानडुहो दोहान्त्सप्तानुपदस्वतः । प्रजां च लोकं चाप्नोति तथा सप्तऋषयो विदुः
He who knows the seven milking places of the Anaḍuha, following in order, obtains progeny and world; thus the seven seers knew.
पद्भिः सेदिमवक्रामन्न् इरां जङ्घाभिरुत्खिदन् । श्रमेणानड्वान् कीलालं कीनाशश्चाभि गच्छतः
With their feet they pressed, with their shanks they dug out the food; by toil the Anaḍuha and the ploughman both approach the sap.
द्वादश वा एता रात्रीर्व्रत्या आहुः प्रजापतेः । तत्रोप ब्रह्म यो वेद तद्वा अनडुहो व्रतम्
These twelve nights are called the vow of Prajapati; whoever knows that Brahman there, that is the vow of the Anaḍuha.
दुहे सायं दुहे प्रातर्दुहे मध्यंदिनं परि । दोहा ये अस्य संयन्ति तान् विद्मानुपदस्वतः
It is milked in the evening, milked in the morning, milked at midday all around; whoever knows the milking times, following in order, knows them.
रोहण्यसि रोहण्यस्थ्नश्छिन्नस्य रोहणी । रोहयेदमरुन्धति
You are the healer, the healer of the broken, the healer of the cut; let the undeceiving one cause healing.
यत्ते रिष्टं यत्ते द्युत्तमस्ति पेष्ट्रं त आत्मनि । धाता तद्भद्रया पुनः सं दधत्परुषा परुः
Whatever is injured in you, whatever is shattered, whatever is crushed in your body, may the Creator, with good fortune, again unite and bind together, part by part.
सं ते मज्जा मज्ज्ञा भवतु समु ते परुषा परुः । सं ते मांसस्य विस्रस्तं समस्थ्यपि रोहतु
Let your marrow be joined with marrow, your joint with joint; let what has fallen from your flesh, together with the bone, grow again.
मज्जा मज्ञा सं धीयतां चर्मणा चर्म रोहतु । असृक्ते अस्थि रोहतु मांसं मांसेन रोहतु
Let marrow be joined with marrow, skin with skin; let bone grow with blood, flesh with flesh.
