अरसस्त इषो शल्योऽथो ते अरसं विषम् । उतारसस्य वृक्षस्य धनुष्टे अरसारसम्
The arrow is without sap, the dart is without sap, and so is your poison without sap; the bow of the sapless tree is also sapless.
ये अपीषन् ये अदिहन् य आस्यन् ये अवासृजन् । सर्वे ते वध्रयः कृता वध्रिर्विषगिरिः कृतः
Those who have shot, those who have struck, those who have sat, those who have let loose—all these have been made impotent; the impotent one, the poison-mountain, has been rendered impotent.
वध्रयस्ते खनितारो वध्रिस्त्वमस्योषधे । वध्रिः स पर्वतो गिरिर्यतो जातमिदं विषम्
Impotent are your diggers, impotent are you, O herb; impotent is that mountain, that hill from which this poison was born.
वारिदं वारयातै वरणावत्यामधि । तत्रामृतस्यासिक्तं तेना ते वारये विषम्
I restrain the poison with the water-retaining plant growing on the Varana tree; there, the nectar has been sprinkled—by that I restrain your poison.
अरसं प्राच्यं विषमरसं यदुदीच्यम् । अथेदमधराच्यं करम्भेण वि कल्पते
The poison that is eastern is sapless, the poison that is northern is sapless; now this southern one is rendered harmless with gruel.
करम्भं कृत्वा तिर्यं पीबस्पाकमुदारथिम् । क्षुधा किल त्वा दुष्टनो जक्षिवान्त्स न रूरुपः
Prepare gruel, drink it sideways, hot and abundant; hunger indeed has harmed you, eat, and you will not be harmed.
वि ते मदं मदावति शरमिव पातयामसि । प्र त्वा चरुमिव येषन्तं वचसा स्थापयामसि
From you, in the intoxicated, we cast down the intoxication like an arrow; we restrain you, who are agitated, with words as with a charm.
परि ग्राममिवाचितं वचसा स्थापयामसि । तिष्ठा वृक्ष इव स्थाम्न्यभ्रिखाते न रूरुपः
We restrain you with words, as one would a gathered village; stand firm like a tree, unmoved, and you will not be harmed.
पवस्तैस्त्वा पर्यक्रीणन् दूर्शेभिरजिनैरुत । प्रक्रीरसि त्वमोषधेऽभ्रिखाते न रूरुपः
With purifiers they have surrounded you, with distant, unblemished ones; you are scattered, O herb, unmoved, and you will not be harmed.
अनाप्ता ये वः प्रथमा यानि कर्माणि चक्रिरे । वीरान् नो अत्र मा दभन् तद्व एतत्पुरो दधे
Those first ones of you who performed deeds without reaching, let them not harm our heroes here; let that be set before us.
4.8 भूतो भूतेषु पय आ दधाति स भूतानामधिपतिर्बभूव । तस्य मृत्युश्चरति राजसूयं स राजा अनु मन्यतामिदम्
The being places milk among beings; he became the lord of beings. Death moves in his royal consecration; let the king approve this.
अभि प्रेहि माप वेन उग्रश्चेत्ता सपत्नहा । आ तिष्ठ मित्रवर्धन तुभ्यं देवा अधि ब्रुवन्
Go forth, do not falter, be fierce, be wise, slay your rival; stand firm, O increaser of friends, for the gods have spoken for you.
आतिष्ठन्तं परि विश्वे अभूषं छ्रियं वसानश्चरति स्वरोचिः । महत्तद्वृष्णो असुरस्य नामा विश्वरूपो अमृतानि तस्थौ
All the beings adorned themselves around the one who stands firm, wearing splendor, moving with radiance. That is the great name of the mighty Asura; the immortal, of manifold forms, has stood firm.
व्याघ्रो अधि वैयाघ्रे वि क्रमस्व दिशो महीः । विशस्त्वा सर्वा वाञ्छन्त्वापो दिव्याः पयस्वतीः
As a tiger, stride forth among tigers, traverse the great directions; may all the waters, the heavenly, the milky, desire you.
या आपो दिव्याः पयसा मदन्त्यन्तरिक्ष उत वा पृथिव्याम् । तासां त्वा सर्वासामपामभि षिञ्चामि वर्चसा
The heavenly waters that rejoice with milk, whether in the atmosphere or on earth—of all those waters, I sprinkle you with their radiance.
अभि त्वा वर्चसासिचन्न् आपो दिव्याः पयस्वतीः । यथासो मित्रवर्धनस्तथा त्वा सविता करत्
I have sprinkled you with radiance, with the heavenly, milky waters; as you are the increaser of friends, so may Savitar make you.
एना व्याघ्रं परिषस्वजानाः सिंहं हिन्वन्ति महते सौभगाय । समुद्रं न सुभुवस्तस्थिवांसं मर्मृज्यन्ते द्वीपिनमप्स्वन्तः
With this, embracing the tiger, they urge on the lion for great good fortune; like the ocean, the strong one stands firm, the panther is cleansed within the waters.
4.९ एहि जीवं त्रायमाणं पर्वतस्यास्यक्ष्यम् । विश्वेभिर्देवैर्दत्तं परिधिर्जीवनाय कम्
Come, living one, being protected, to the imperishable mouth of the mountain; the enclosure given by all the gods is for the sake of life.
परिपाणं पुरुषाणां परिपाणं गवामसि । अश्वानामर्वतां परिपाणाय तस्थिषे
You are the protector of men, you are the protector of cows; you stand for the protection of horses and those without strength.
उतासि परिपाणं यातुजम्भनमाञ्जन । उतामृतस्य त्वं वेत्थाथो असि जीवभोजनमथो हरितभेषजम्
You are also the guardian, the spell against sorcery, the ointment; you know the nectar, you are the food of the living, and the green medicine.
यस्याञ्जन प्रसर्पस्यङ्गमङ्गं परुष्परुः । ततो यक्ष्मं वि बाधस उग्रो मध्यमशीरिव
Whose ointment, spreading, touches limb after limb, harsh upon harsh; from that, drive away disease, fierce one, as a middle tooth does.
नैनं प्राप्नोति शपथो न कृत्या नाभिशोचनम् । नैनं विष्कन्धमश्नुते यस्त्वा बिभर्त्याञ्जन
Neither curse nor witchcraft nor lamentation reaches him; nor does the spreading poison touch him who bears you, ointment.
असन्मन्त्राद्दुष्वप्न्याद्दुष्कृताच्छमलादुत । दुर्हार्दश्चक्षुषो घोरात्तस्मान् नः पाह्याञ्जन
From evil incantation, from bad dreams, from misdeeds, from filth, from the fierce pain of the eye, protect us from that, ointment.
इदं विद्वान् आञ्जन सत्यं वक्ष्यामि नानृतम् । सनेयमश्वं गामहमात्मानं तव पूरुष
Knowing this, ointment, I speak truth, not falsehood: may I keep horse, cow, myself, and your man.
त्रयो दासा आञ्जनस्य तक्मा बलास आदहिः । वर्षिष्ठः पर्वतानां त्रिककुन् नाम ते पिता
Three servants of the ointment are fever, consumption, and burning; the eldest of the mountains, Trikakud, is your father.
यदाञ्जनं त्रैककुदं जातं हिमवतस्परि । यातूंश्च सर्वाञ्जम्भयत्सर्वाश्च यातुधान्यः
When the ointment, born of Trikakud, arose beyond the Himalaya, it subdues all sorcerers and all sorcerous beings.
यदि वासि त्रैककुदं यदि यामुनमुच्यसे । उभे ते भद्रे नाम्नी ताभ्यां नः पाह्याञ्जन
Whether you are Trikakud's, or are called Yamuna's, both your auspicious names, with them, protect us, ointment.
वाताज्जातो अन्तरिक्षाद्विद्युतो ज्योतिषस्परि । स नो हिरण्यजाः शङ्खः कृशनः पात्वंहसः
Born from wind, from the atmosphere, from lightning, from the light; may the golden-born conch, the slender one, protect us from harm.
यो अग्रतो रोचनानां समुद्रादधि जज्ञिषे । शङ्खेन हत्वा रक्षांस्यत्त्रिणो वि षहामहे
He who was born before the shining ones, from the ocean; by the conch, having struck down the demons, we overcome all obstacles.
शङ्खेनामीवाममतिं शङ्खेनोत सदान्वाः । शङ्खो नो विश्वभेषजः कृशनः पात्वंहसः
With the conch, we drive away disease and ill will; with the conch, also, perpetual enemies; the conch, universal medicine, slender one, protect us from harm.
