Truly great and auspicious is the bael tree, truly great and auspicious is the udumbara; the greatly anointed one oppresses the pounding of the great one.
She who, the maiden, the tawny one, obtains the fat of spring, should take up the oil-pit, this thumb, and the weeping pure one.
When, indeed, the eastern ones moved, the iron grains and the grains of dhāna, all the enemies of Indra were slain, all the bubbling ones, the swift ones.
O men, raise the grinding stone, urge it, dig for the winning of the prize; let the one with the pestle stir up the son, let Indra with his company come here to drink Soma.
I have prepared the praise of Dadhikrāvan, the victorious, swift horse; may his fragrant mouth make us pleasant, may he carry us across to long life.
The pressed, most honeyed Somas, delightful for Indra, flowing through the filter, do not stop; may their exhilarations reach you gods.
The gods have said: 'The Soma is purified for Indra.' Speech-lord, you are the joy of the sacrifice, the ruler of all strength.
The thousand-streamed ocean, Soma, is purified, swelling with speech; Soma, lord of riches, is the companion of Indra day by day.
The dark drop, shining, descended into the bright one, journeying with ten thousand; mighty Indra, by his power, placed the pounding, removing the sticky ones with his strength.
I saw the drop moving apart in the gathering, by the banks of the shining river; like a dark cloud in the sky, I stood firm—may you, O vigorous ones, win in the contest.
Then the drop, shining, settled in the lap, holding its form with force; the godless hosts approached, but Indra, yoked with Bṛhaspati, overcame them.
Indeed, when you were born from the seven, you became the enemy of the enemy, Indra; you found the hidden heavens and earth, and brought battle to the widespread worlds.
Indeed, you, O wielder of the thunderbolt, unmatched in strength, struck down with your weapon in fury; you destroyed Śuṣṇa with your slaying tools, and by your power, Indra, you found the cows.
We urge that Indra, the mighty bull, to slay the great Vṛtra; let him be the powerful, virile bull.
Indra is made for victory, most vigorous, set in the exhilaration; glorious, renowned, and Soma-loving.
The thunderbolt, gathered by speech, is powerful, unfailing; it has grown, lofty, unshaken.
Great is Indra by his might, like a rain-bringing cloud; he has grown strong through the hymns for the calf.
When the fires, bearers of the nectar, increase the offspring of immortality, the inspired ones, by the vehicle of truth.
When the Kaṇvas made Indra, with hymns, the accomplisher of the sacrifice, speak, O kin, the weapon.
Now, Ashvins, come for the help of the calf; grant him unfailing, wide protection, and drive away the foes.
Whatever is in the midspace, whatever is in the sky, whatever follows among men—bestow that manliness, Ashvins.
Those inspired ones who have measured your powers, Ashvins—thus be aware of the Kaṇva's call.
This hot libation, O Aśvins, is poured out for you with praise; this sweet Soma, rich in honey, O bestowers of horses, by which you became aware of Vṛtra.
Whatever in the waters, in the forest, or among the healing herbs, you have made full of manifold power—by that, O Aśvins, protect me.
Whatever, O Nāsatyas, you have done to help, or as divine healers, this calf does not attain you by thoughts alone, for you go to those who offer oblations.
Now the sage has recognized the praise for the Aśvins; let him pour out the sweetest Soma, the hot libation, O Atharvan.
Now, O Aśvins, mount the swiftly-turning chariot; these my praises have not fallen away from you, like the sky.
Whatever today, O Nāsatyas, we may express to you with invocations, or with words, O Aśvins, may you be aware of the desire of Kaṇva.
Whether Kakṣīvant, or Vyashva the seer, or Dīrghatamas invoked you, or whether Prithī, the son of Vena, in their dwellings—by these, O Aśvins, may you be mindful.
Come as protectors from harm, as guardians, be preservers of the world, and protect our bodies; come for the sake of offspring and descendants.
