उत श्वेत आशुपत्वा उतो पद्याभिर्यविष्ठः । उतेमाशु मानं पिपर्ति
And the white one is swift, and the youngest is by his feet; and this swift one supports the measure.
आदित्या रुद्रा वसवस्त्वेनु त इदं राधः प्रति गृभ्णीह्यङ्गिरः । इदं राधो विभु प्रभु इदं राधो बृहत्पृथु
O Ādityas, Rudras, Vasus, take this gift, O Angiras; this gift is all-pervading, mighty, this gift is great and broad.
० देवा ददत्वासुरं तद्वो अस्तु सुचेतनम् । युष्मामस्तु दिवेदिवे प्रत्येव गृभायत्
Let the gods give the demon; let that be your wise insight; let it be yours day by day, let it always be grasped by you.
त्वमिन्द्र शर्मरिणा हव्यं पारावतेभ्यः । विप्राय स्तुवते वसुवनिं दुरश्रवसे वह
You, Indra, with protection, carry the offering to the distant ones; for the sage who praises, bring the wealth, for the ill-famed, drive it away.
त्वमिन्द्र कपोताय छिन्नपक्षाय वञ्चते । श्यामाकं पक्वं पीलु च वारस्मा अकृणोर्बहुः
You, Indra, for the pigeon with broken wings, for the deceived, made much ripe black millet and pīlu fruit for him in the day.
अरंगरो वावदीति त्रेधा बद्धो वरत्रया । इरामह प्रशंसत्यनिरामप सेधति
The one who makes no sound says 'vāvadīti', bound threefold with three straps; he praises the food, the one without food drives it away.
यदस्या अंहुभेद्याः कृधु स्थूलमुपातसत्। मुष्काविदस्या एजतो गोशफे शकुलाविव
When her testicles, which are to be split, strike the thick part, they move, trembling, like the eggs of a bird in the hoof of a cow.
यदा स्थूलेन पससाणौ मुष्का उपावधीत्। विष्वञ्चा वस्या वर्धतः सिकतास्वेव गर्दभौ
When, with the thick one, she strikes the testicles on the stone, they grow unsteadily, like donkeys on sand.
यदल्पिकास्वल्पिका कर्कधूकेवषद्यते । वासन्तिकमिव तेजनं यन्त्यवाताय वित्पति
When the small ones move among the small, like a grinding stone, they go as if to the spring festival, the wind drives them away.
यद्देवासो ललामगुं प्रविष्टीमिनमाविषुः । सकुला देदिश्यते नारी सत्यस्याक्षिभुवो यथा
When the gods entered the ornament, they revealed this woman; she is pointed out with her companions, like the eye-sockets of truth.
महानग्न्यतृप्नद्वि मोक्रददस्थानासरन् । शक्तिकानना स्वचमशकं सक्तु पद्यम
The great fire did not satisfy the greedy one; the bones did not move; the sharp-toothed ones, with their own mouth, eat the flour by foot.
महानग्न्युलूखलमतिक्रामन्त्यब्रवीत्। यथा तव वनस्पते निरघ्नन्ति तथैवेति
The great fire said, as it crossed the mortar: 'Just as they strike you, O tree, so may it be.'
महानग्न्युप ब्रूते भ्रष्टोथाप्यभूभुवः । यथैव ते वनस्पते पिप्पति तथैवेति
The great fire speaks, having fallen and risen again: 'Just as your fruits, O tree, fall, so may it be.'
महानग्न्युप ब्रूते भ्रष्टोथाप्यभूभुवः । यथा वयो विदाह्य स्वर्गे नमवदह्यते
The great fire speaks, having fallen and risen again: 'Just as the birds are burned in the sky, so may they be burned here.'
महानग्न्युप ब्रूते स्वसावेशितं पसः । इत्थं फलस्य वृक्षस्य शूर्पे शूर्पं भजेमहि
The great fire speaks concerning the pressed juice: 'Thus, let us separate the husk from the fruit of the tree with a winnowing basket.'
महानग्नी कृकवाकं शम्यया परि धावति । अयं न विद्म यो मृगः शीर्ष्णा हरति धाणिकाम्
The great fire chases the rooster with a staff; we do not know which animal takes the grain by the head.
महानग्नी महानग्नं धावन्तमनु धावति । इमास्तदस्य गा रक्ष यभ मामद्ध्यौदनम्
The great fire pursues the great fire as it runs; protect these cows of his, O Yabha, do not strike me, O Udana.
सुदेवस्त्वा महानग्नीर्बबाधते महतः साधु खोदनम् । कुसं पीवरो नवत्
The good god, the great fire, oppresses you; the pounding of the great one is good; the kusa grass is fat, new.
वशा दग्धामिमाङ्गुरिं प्रसृजतोग्रतं परे । महान् वै भद्रो यभ मामद्ध्यौदनम्
The sacrificial cow, having been burned, releases this finger forward and beyond; truly great and auspicious is Yabha, do not strike me, O Udana.
विदेवस्त्वा महानग्नीर्विबाधते महतः साधु खोदनम् । कुमारिका पिङ्गलिका कार्द भस्मा कु धावति
The wise god, the great fire, oppresses you; the pounding of the great one is good; the maiden, the tawny one, the black one, runs to the ashes.
महान् वै भद्रो बिल्वो महान् भद्र उदुम्बरः । महामभिक्त बाधते महतः साधु खोदनम्
Truly great and auspicious is the bael tree, truly great and auspicious is the udumbara; the greatly anointed one oppresses the pounding of the great one.
यः कुमारी पिङ्गलिका वसन्तं पीवरी लभेत्। तैलकुण्डमिमाङ्गुष्ठं रोदन्तं शुदमुद्धरेत्
She who, the maiden, the tawny one, obtains the fat of spring, should take up the oil-pit, this thumb, and the weeping pure one.
यद्ध प्राचीरजगन्तोरो मण्डूरधाणिकीः । हता इन्द्रस्य शत्रवः सर्वे बुद्बुदयाशवः
When, indeed, the eastern ones moved, the iron grains and the grains of dhāna, all the enemies of Indra were slain, all the bubbling ones, the swift ones.
कपृन् नरः कपृथमुद्दधातन चोदयत खुदत वाजसातये । निष्टिग्र्यः पुत्रमा च्यावयोतय इन्द्रं सबाध इह सोमपीतये
O men, raise the grinding stone, urge it, dig for the winning of the prize; let the one with the pestle stir up the son, let Indra with his company come here to drink Soma.
दधिक्राव्णो अकारिषं जिष्णोरश्वस्य वाजिनः । सुरभि नो मुखा करत्प्र ण आयूंषि तारिषत्
I have prepared the praise of Dadhikrāvan, the victorious, swift horse; may his fragrant mouth make us pleasant, may he carry us across to long life.
सुतासो मधुमत्तमाः सोमा इन्द्राय मन्दिनः । पवित्रवन्तो अक्षरन् देवान् गच्छन्तु वो मदाः
The pressed, most honeyed Somas, delightful for Indra, flowing through the filter, do not stop; may their exhilarations reach you gods.
इन्दुरिन्द्राय पवत इति देवासो अब्रुवन् । वाचस्पतिर्मखस्यते विश्वस्येशान ओजसा
The gods have said: 'The Soma is purified for Indra.' Speech-lord, you are the joy of the sacrifice, the ruler of all strength.
सहस्रधारः पवते समुद्रो वाचमीङ्खयः । सोमः पती रयीणां सखेन्द्रस्य दिवेदिवे
The thousand-streamed ocean, Soma, is purified, swelling with speech; Soma, lord of riches, is the companion of Indra day by day.
अव द्रप्सो अंशुमतीमतिष्ठदियानः कृष्णो दशभिः सहस्रैः । आवत्तमिन्द्रः शच्या धमन्तमप स्नेहितीर्नृमणा अधत्त
The dark drop, shining, descended into the bright one, journeying with ten thousand; mighty Indra, by his power, placed the pounding, removing the sticky ones with his strength.
द्रप्समपश्यं विषुणे चरन्तमुपह्वरे नद्यो अंशुमत्याः । नभो न कृष्णमवतस्थिवांसमिष्यामि वो वृषणो युध्यताजौ
I saw the drop moving apart in the gathering, by the banks of the shining river; like a dark cloud in the sky, I stood firm—may you, O vigorous ones, win in the contest.
