दौव हस्तिनो दृती
Two elephants, firmness of hand.
विततौ किरणौ द्वौ तावा पिनष्टि पूरुषः । न वै कुमारि तत्तथा यथा कुमारि मन्यसे
Two rays are stretched out; the man crushes them. It is not so, maiden, as you think, maiden.
मातुष्टे किरणौ द्वौ निवृत्तः पुरुषानृते । न वै कुमारि तत्तथा यथा कुमारि मन्यसे
Two rays of your mother are withdrawn, except for the man. It is not so, maiden, as you think, maiden.
निगृह्य कर्णकौ द्वौ निरायच्छसि मध्यमे । न वै कुमारि तत्तथा यथा कुमारि मन्यसे
Having restrained two ears, you send forth the middle. It is not so, maiden, as you think, maiden.
उत्तानायै शयानायै तिष्ठन्ती वाव गूहसि । न वै कुमारि तत्तथा यथा कुमारि मन्यसे
For the one lying face up, for the one standing, truly you conceal. It is not so, maiden, as you think, maiden.
श्लक्ष्णायां श्लक्ष्णिकायां श्लक्ष्णमेवाव गूहसि । न वै कुमारि तत्तथा यथा कुमारि मन्यसे
In the smooth one, in the smoothness, you conceal only the smooth. It is not so, maiden, as you think, maiden.
अवश्लक्ष्णमिव भ्रंशदन्तर्लोममति ह्रदे । न वै कुमारि तत्तथा यथा कुमारि मन्यसे
Like something not smooth, with fallen inner hair, in the abyss. It is not so, maiden, as you think, maiden.
इहेत्थ प्रागपागुदगधरागरालागुदभर्त्सथ
Here thus, eastward, westward, northward, southward, you scold with the rod.
इहेत्थ प्रागपागुदगधराग्वत्साः पुरुषन्त आसते
Here, with their heads to the east, west, and north, the calves sit together with the men.
इहेत्थ प्रागपागुदगधराक्स्थालीपाको वि लीयते
Here, with their heads to the east, west, and north, the cooking pot is set down.
इहेत्थ प्रागपागुदगधराक्स वै पृथु लीयते
Here, with their heads to the east, west, and north, the broad dish is set down.
इहेत्थ प्रागपागुदगधरागास्ते लाहणि लीशाथी
Here, with their heads to the east, west, and north, the ladle is set down in the vessel.
इहेत्थ प्रागपागुदगधरागक्ष्लिली पुछिलीयते
Here, with their heads to the east, west, and north, the spoon is set down, dripping.
भुगित्यभिगतः शलित्यपक्रान्तः फलित्यभिष्ठितः । दुन्दुभिमाहननाभ्यां जरितरोथामो दैव
Having come for food, having gone for rice, having stood for fruit, the singer, by beating the drum, invokes the divine strength.
कोशबिले रजनि ग्रन्थेर्धानमुपानहि पादम् । उत्तमां जनिमां जन्यानुत्तमां जनीन् वर्त्मन्यात्
In the hollow of the vessel, at night, place the knot and the foot; let the highest birth be born, let the lesser birth proceed on its path.
अलाबूनि पृषातकान्यश्वत्थपलाशम् । पिपीलिकावतश्वसो विद्युत्स्वापर्णशफो गोशफो जरितरोथामो दैव
Gourds, wild cucumbers, leaves of the fig and palāśa trees; the breath of the anthill, the hoof of the horse, the hoof of the cow—the singer invokes the divine strength.
वीमे देवा अक्रंसताध्वर्यो क्षिप्रं प्रचर । सुसत्यमिद्गवामस्यसि प्रखुदसि
Here the gods have leapt, O officiant, move swiftly; you are truly good, you will be strong, you will be energetic.
पत्नी यदृश्यते पत्नी यक्ष्यमाणा जरितरोथामो दैव । होता विष्टीमेन जरितरोथामो दैव
When the wife is seen, when the wife is being sacrificed for, the singer invokes the divine strength; the priest, by the viṣṭīma, the singer invokes the divine strength.
आदित्या ह जरितरङ्गिरोभ्यो दक्षिणामनयन् । तां ह जरितः प्रत्यायंस्तामु ह जरितः प्रत्यायन्
The Ādityas brought the fee to the singers from the Angiras; the singer indeed brought it back, the singer indeed brought it back.
तां ह जरितर्नः प्रत्यगृभ्णंस्तामु ह जरितर्नः प्रत्यगृभ्णः । अहानेतरसं न वि चेतनानि यज्ञान् एतरसं न पुरोगवामः
That, the singer took for us, that, the singer took for us; we do not know the other, nor do we lead the other in sacrifice.
उत श्वेत आशुपत्वा उतो पद्याभिर्यविष्ठः । उतेमाशु मानं पिपर्ति
And the white one is swift, and the youngest is by his feet; and this swift one supports the measure.
आदित्या रुद्रा वसवस्त्वेनु त इदं राधः प्रति गृभ्णीह्यङ्गिरः । इदं राधो विभु प्रभु इदं राधो बृहत्पृथु
O Ādityas, Rudras, Vasus, take this gift, O Angiras; this gift is all-pervading, mighty, this gift is great and broad.
० देवा ददत्वासुरं तद्वो अस्तु सुचेतनम् । युष्मामस्तु दिवेदिवे प्रत्येव गृभायत्
Let the gods give the demon; let that be your wise insight; let it be yours day by day, let it always be grasped by you.
त्वमिन्द्र शर्मरिणा हव्यं पारावतेभ्यः । विप्राय स्तुवते वसुवनिं दुरश्रवसे वह
You, Indra, with protection, carry the offering to the distant ones; for the sage who praises, bring the wealth, for the ill-famed, drive it away.
त्वमिन्द्र कपोताय छिन्नपक्षाय वञ्चते । श्यामाकं पक्वं पीलु च वारस्मा अकृणोर्बहुः
You, Indra, for the pigeon with broken wings, for the deceived, made much ripe black millet and pīlu fruit for him in the day.
अरंगरो वावदीति त्रेधा बद्धो वरत्रया । इरामह प्रशंसत्यनिरामप सेधति
The one who makes no sound says 'vāvadīti', bound threefold with three straps; he praises the food, the one without food drives it away.
यदस्या अंहुभेद्याः कृधु स्थूलमुपातसत्। मुष्काविदस्या एजतो गोशफे शकुलाविव
When her testicles, which are to be split, strike the thick part, they move, trembling, like the eggs of a bird in the hoof of a cow.
यदा स्थूलेन पससाणौ मुष्का उपावधीत्। विष्वञ्चा वस्या वर्धतः सिकतास्वेव गर्दभौ
When, with the thick one, she strikes the testicles on the stone, they grow unsteadily, like donkeys on sand.
यदल्पिकास्वल्पिका कर्कधूकेवषद्यते । वासन्तिकमिव तेजनं यन्त्यवाताय वित्पति
When the small ones move among the small, like a grinding stone, they go as if to the spring festival, the wind drives them away.
यद्देवासो ललामगुं प्रविष्टीमिनमाविषुः । सकुला देदिश्यते नारी सत्यस्याक्षिभुवो यथा
When the gods entered the ornament, they revealed this woman; she is pointed out with her companions, like the eye-sockets of truth.
