परा हीन्द्र धावसि वृषाकपेरति व्यथिः । नो अह प्र विन्दस्यन्यत्र सोमपीतये विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Indra, you run away from the mighty monkey, trembling; you do not find anything elsewhere for drinking Soma, Indra is superior to all.
किमयं त्वां वृषाकपिश्चकार हरितो मृगः । यस्मा इरस्यसीदु न्वर्यो वा पुष्टिमद्वसु विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
What has this mighty monkey done to you, the tawny beast? Why do you become angry, O noble one, for the rich goods? Indra is superior to all.
यमिमं त्वं वृषाकपिं प्रियमिन्द्राभिरक्षसि । श्वा न्वस्य जम्भिषदपि कर्णे वराहयुर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
This beloved mighty monkey whom you, Indra, protect; the dog gnashes at him, and the boar grunts in his ear; Indra is superior to all.
प्रिया तष्टानि मे कपिर्व्यक्ता व्यदूदुषत्। शिरो न्वस्य राविषं न सुगं दुष्कृते भुवं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
The monkey has made clear my dear things, and has acted wickedly; I have struck his head, not easily, for his evil deeds; Indra is superior to all.
न मत्स्त्री सुभसत्तरा न सुयाशुतरा भुवत्। न मत्प्रतिच्यवीयसी न सक्थ्युद्यमीयसी विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
My woman is not most beautiful, nor is she most pleasant; she is not most easily moved, nor is she most active in the thigh; Indra is superior to all.
उवे अम्ब सुलाभिके यथेवाङ्गं भविष्यति । भसन् मे अम्ब सक्थि मे शिरो मे वीव हृष्यति विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Mother, easy to obtain, whatever happens, so it will be; mother, my thigh, my head, all rejoice; Indra is superior to all.
किं सुबाहो स्वङ्गुरे पृथुष्टो पृथुजाघने । किं शूरपत्नि नस्त्वमभ्यमीषि वृषाकपिं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
What, O strong-armed, with beautiful nails, broad-shouldered, broad-thighed; what, O wife of the hero, do you desire from the mighty monkey? Indra is superior to all.
अवीरामिव मामयं शरारुरभि मन्यते । उताहमस्मि वीरिणीन्द्रपत्नी मरुत्सखा विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Like a woman without a man, this monkey thinks little of me; yet I am strong, Indra's wife, companion of the Maruts; Indra is superior to all.
संहोत्रं स्म पुरा नारी समनं वाव गच्छति । वेधा ऋतस्य वीरिणीन्द्रपत्नी महीयते विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Long ago, the woman went together to the common offering; the creator, Indra's wife, is honored for her truth; Indra is superior to all.
इन्द्राणीमासु नारिषु सुभगामहमश्रवम् । नह्यस्या अपरं चन जरसा मरते पतिर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Among these women, I have heard myself called fortunate, O Indrani; for her, no other husband dies of old age; Indra is superior to all.
नाहमिन्द्राणि रारण सख्युर्वृषाकपेर्ऋते । यस्येदमप्यं हविः प्रियं देवेषु गच्छति विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
I, O Indrani, have not delighted in the friendship of Vrishakapi, whose offering, even this, dear among the gods, goes forth; Indra surpasses all.
वृषाकपायि रेवति सुपुत्र आदु सुस्नुषे । घसत्त इन्द्र उक्षणः प्रियं काचित्करं हविर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
O Revati, wife of Vrishakapi, with good sons and good daughters-in-law, Indra, the bull, has devoured some beloved, well-made oblation; Indra surpasses all.
उक्ष्णो हि मे पञ्चदश साकं पचन्ति विंसतिम् । उताहमद्मि पीव इदुभा कुक्षी पृणन्ति मे विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Fifteen of my oxen cook together with twenty; and I have eaten, being full, both, my two bellies are filled; Indra surpasses all.
वृषभो न तिग्मशृङ्गोऽन्तर्यूथेषु रोरुवत्। मन्थस्त इन्द्र शं हृदे यं ते सुनोति भावयुर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Like a bull with sharp horns bellowing among the herds, Indra, the churner, brings joy to the heart for whom the inspired one prepares the offering; Indra surpasses all.
न सेशे यस्य रम्बतेऽन्तरा सक्थ्या कपृत्। सेदीशे यस्य रोमशं निषेदुषो विजृम्भते विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
He does not lie down, whose thigh quivers within; he does lie down, whose hairy part stretches forth as he sits; Indra surpasses all.
न सेशे यस्य रोमशं निषेदुषो विजृम्भते । सेदीशे यस्य रम्बतेऽन्तरा सक्थ्या कपृत्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
He does not lie down, whose hairy part stretches forth as he sits; he does lie down, whose thigh quivers within; Indra surpasses all.
अयमिन्द्र वृषाकपिः परस्वन्तं हतं विदत्। असिं सूनां नवं चरुमादेधस्यान आचितं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
This Indra, Vrishakapi, knows the slain one who possesses wealth; he has taken up the new, sharpened knife, the offering placed upon the kindling; Indra surpasses all.
अयमेमि विचाकशद्विचिन्वन् दासमार्यम् । पिबामि पाकसुत्वनोऽभि धीरमचाकशं विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
This one comes, searching, observing, seeking the Dasa and the Arya; I drink the pressed Soma, approaching the steadfast, the unshaken; Indra surpasses all.
धन्व च यत्कृन्तत्रं च कति स्वित्ता वि योजना । नेदीयसो वृषाकपेऽस्तमेहि गृहामुप विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Whether it is desert or forest, how many yojanas are there? Come closer, Vrishakapi, at sunset, enter the house; Indra surpasses all.
पुनरेहि वृषाकपे सुविता कल्पयावहै । य एष स्वप्ननंशनोऽस्तमेषि पथा पुनर्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Return, Vrishakapi, let us prepare good fortune; this one, who eats dreams, returns home again by the path; Indra surpasses all.
यदुदञ्चो वृषाकपे गृहमिन्द्राजगन्तन । क्व स्य पुल्वघो मृगः कमगं जनयोपनो विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
When you, Vrishakapi, came northward to Indra's house, where is that spotted deer, what path did the mother give birth to the calf? Indra surpasses all.
पर्शुर्ह नाम मानवी साकं ससूव विंशतिम् । भद्रं भल त्यस्या अभूद्यस्या उदरमामयद्विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः
Parshurha, a woman by name, together bore twenty; her womb became fortunate, her belly swelled; Indra surpasses all.
इदं जना उप श्रुत नराशंस स्तविष्यते । षष्टिं सहस्रा नवतिं च कौरम आ रुशमेषु दद्महे
Hear this, O people; Narashansa is to be praised. Sixty thousand and ninety Kauramas we have placed among the Rusamas.
उष्ट्रा यस्य प्रवाहणो वधूमन्तो द्विर्दश । वर्ष्मा रथस्य नि जिहीडते दिव ईषमाणा उपस्पृशः
His camels, belonging to Pravahana, with brides, are twelve; the body of the chariot does not descend, reaching the sky, the upraised ones touch.
एष इषाय मामहे शतं निष्कान् दश स्रजः । त्रीणि शतान्यर्वतां सहस्रा दश गोनाम्
For this we strive with desire: a hundred necklaces, ten garlands; three hundred horses, a thousand cows.
वच्यस्व रेभ वच्यस्व वृक्षे न पक्वे शकुनः । नष्टे जिह्वा चर्चरीति क्षुरो न भुरिजोरिव
Speak, Rebha, speak, like a bird on a ripe tree; when the tongue is lost, it chatters, like a razor on a whetstone.
प्र रेभासो मनीषा वृषा गाव इवेरते । अमोतपुत्रका एषाममोत गा इवासते
The Rebhas, with thought, go forth, like bulls, they protect the cows; their sons are safe, their cows are safe as well.
प्र रेभ धीं भरस्व गोविदं वसुविदम् । देवत्रेमां वाचं स्रीणीहीषुर्नावीरस्तारम्
Go forth, Rebha, bring forth thought, one who knows cows, one who knows wealth; utter this speech before the gods, O wise one, as a skilled sailor crosses.
राज्ञो विश्वजनीनस्य यो देवोमर्त्यामति । वैश्वानरस्य सुष्टुतिमा सुनोता परिक्षितः
To the king of all peoples, to the god whose wisdom is immortal among mortals, to Vaiśvānara, offer the well-composed praise, O Parikṣit.
परिछिन्नः क्षेममकरोत्तम आसनमाचरन् । कुलायन् कृण्वन् कौरव्यः पतिर्वदति जायया
Having set boundaries, he made security, establishing the highest seat; making a household, the Kauravya, as lord, speaks with his wife.
