Hear, O generous one, this speech of mine, which Vasiṣṭha utters as praise for you; accept these prayers at the gathering.
Be attentive, O lord of might, Indra, with all your protections; for we, O hero, follow you, the renowned, the knower of wealth, as our portion.
You are the lord of horses, the doer of much, the lord of cattle, the giver, O god, of golden wealth; for giving is not to be restrained— whatever I seek, grant that.
To Indra for the sake of the gods, to Indra at the sacrifice we offer; to Indra in the assembly, the forest-dwellers call, to Indra for the gaining of wealth.
By his greatness, Indra expanded the two worlds; Indra made the sun shine. In Indra, indeed, all beings are held; in Indra, the pressed Soma flows.
I have recited the ancient hymn; let it be spoken to Indra. Many lofty truths of order have been followed; the clouds of the singer have poured forth.
Swiftly, the inspired ones have sung the song, sweet and flowing with ghee. For us, wealth has spread, manly power and strength; for us, the pressed Soma flows.
Whenever, Indra, you are invoked by men to the east, west, north, or south, then, being called upon by many, you are present for this help, you are the champion for Turvasha.
Or when, Indra, you delight together with Ruma, Ruśama, or Śyāvaka, O mighty one, the Kanvas, with hymns and songs of praise, invite you—come here.
We approach you, O hero, like cows that have not been milked. You are the lord of this moving world, the lord of the steadfast, O Indra, who sees the light.
No one in heaven or on earth, none born or to be born, is your equal. O generous Indra, we invoke you who possess horses and seek cattle.
May splendid gatherings with Indra be ours, rich in prizes, with which we may rejoice.
May you, mighty one, with your own power, come to the singers, bold and unconquered, like the axle of a chariot that does not break.
Whenever, O hundred-powered one, you grant the wish of the singers, like the axle of a chariot, with your powers.
That is the divinity of the sun, that is its greatness, spread in the midst of the sky; when he has yoked his green steeds from his seat, then night draws out her garment for him.
That form of Mitra and Varuṇa, the sun makes manifest on the lap of the sky; one endless power is of the shining one, another, dark, the green ones bear together.
By what wondrous power does he come to us, ever-growing, as a friend? By what most powerful aid is he chosen?
Who among your true delights is the greatest, who rejoices in the pressed Soma? Even the firm ones you break, O giver of wealth.
Be for us the protector of our friends, of the singers; may you be a hundredfold with your aids.
Which of these worlds shall we attain—Indra and all the gods? May Indra, together with the Ādityas, arrange our sacrifice, our bodies, and our offspring.
May Indra with the Ādityas and the Maruts be the protector of our persons; when the gods, having slain the Asuras, drove them away, the gods, preserving divinity.
With your powers I have led the hymn back, having seen the nourishing food with insight; by this, may we win the prize, favored by the gods, may we rejoice for a hundred winters with heroic sons.
O Indra, generous one, drive away the enemies from the east, from below, and from above; drive them away from the north and from the south, so that we may rejoice in your wide protection.
Perhaps those who possess barley, even barley itself, may be subdued in order; here, prepare food for those who have not approached the sacrificial grass with reverence.
There is no journey undertaken in vain, nor is fame gained in gatherings; the wise seek Indra for friendship, desiring cows and horses, striving for strength.
You two, Ashvins, together with Namuci, the Asura, have drunk the strong drink; you, the radiant lords, together with Indra, accomplish deeds.
Like parents to a son, Ashvins, you and Indra protected him with poetic words and teeth; when you drank the strong drink with Shachis, Sarasvati, O generous one, praised you.
Indra, the wise, possessing good gifts and kind, knowing all things, may he drive away hatred and grant us fearlessness; may we be lords of heroic strength.
May Indra, wise and generous, drive away hatred even from us; may we be in the good favor and happy mind of the worshipful one.
The Soma has flowed forth, and they have honored Indra as a god; where the mighty monkey drank, my companion, Indra is superior to all.
