अग्ने देवामिहा वह जज्ञानो वृक्तबर्हिषे । असि होता न ईड्यः
Agni, bring the gods here, born upon the well-laid altar; you are the priest, worthy of praise.
ईलेन्यो नमस्यस्तिरस्तमांसि दर्शतः । समग्निरिध्यते वृषा
He is to be praised, to be honored, shining and dispelling darkness; Agni is kindled, powerful.
वृषो अग्निः समिध्यतेऽश्वो न देववाहनः । तं हविष्मन्तः ईलते
Agni, the bull, is kindled, like a horse bearing the gods; those with offerings seek him.
वृषणं त्वा वयं वृषन् वृषणः समिधीमहि । अग्ने दीद्यतं बृहत्
We kindle you, O mighty one, with mighty ones, O Agni, shining greatly.
अग्निमीलिष्वावसे गाथाभिः शीरशोचिषम् । अग्निं राये पुरुमील्ह श्रुतं नरोऽग्निं सुदीतये छर्दिः
We invoke Agni for help with songs, radiant in brilliance; for wealth, we invoke Agni, renowned among men, Agni as a shield for good guidance.
अग्न आ याह्यग्निभिर्होतारं त्वा वृणीमहे । आ त्वामनक्तु प्रयता हविष्मती यजिष्ठं बर्हिरासदे
Come, O Agni, with the other fires; as priest, we choose you. May the prepared, offering-bearing seat invite you, most worthy, to sit.
अच्छ हि त्वा सहसः सूनो अङ्गिरः स्रुचश्चरन्त्यध्वरे । ऊर्जो नपातं घृतकेशमीमहेऽग्निं यज्ञेषु पूर्व्यम्
To you, O son of strength, O Angiras, the ladles move at the sacrifice; we seek Agni, the ancient, child of nourishment, with ghee-hair, in the rites.
इमा उ त्वा पुरूवसो गिरो वर्धन्तु या मम । पावकवर्णाः शुचयो विपश्चितोऽभि स्तोमैरनूषत
May these songs, O bountiful one, which are mine, increase you; bright, pure, wise, they praise you with hymns.
अयं सहस्रमृषिभिः सहस्कृतः समुद्र इव पप्रथे । सत्यः सो अस्य महिमा गृने शवो यज्ञेषु विप्रराज्ये
He, honored by a thousand sages, has spread like the ocean; his greatness is true, I praise his power in the sacrifice, in the sovereignty of the wise.
आ नो विश्वासु हव्य इन्द्रः समत्सु भूषतु । उप ब्रह्माणि सवनानि वृत्रहा परमज्या ऋचीषमः
May Indra grant us all offerings in every assembly; let the prayers and libations approach, O slayer of Vritra, supreme, most praised.
त्वं दाता प्रथमो राधसामस्यसि सत्य ईशानकृत्। तुविद्युम्नस्य युज्या वृणीमहे पुत्रस्य शवसो महः
You are the foremost giver of wealth, established in truth and lordship; we choose you, mighty one, for the greatness of the powerful son.
त्वमिन्द्र प्रतूर्तिष्वभि विश्वा असि स्पृधः । अशस्तिहा जनिता विश्वतूरसि त्वं तूर्य तरुष्यतः
O Indra, you are victorious in all contests; destroyer of curses, creator of universal triumph, you surpass the hostile challenger.
अनु ते शुष्मं तुरयन्तमीयतुः क्षोणी शिशुं न मातरा । विश्वास्ते स्पृधः श्नथयन्त मन्यवे वृत्रं यदिन्द्र तूर्वसि
Your force, swift and powerful, moves across the earth like a child to its mother; with your wrath, you shatter all opponents when you conquer Vritra, O Indra.
इत ऊती वो अजरं प्रहेतारमप्रहितम् । आशुं जेतारं हेतारं रथीतममतूर्तं तुग्र्यावृधम्
From here, I invoke for you the ageless, unerring leader, the swift victor, the guide, the charioteer, the unconquered, the mighty Tugrya.
यो राजा चर्षणीनां याता रथेभिरध्रिगुः । विश्वासां तरुता पृतनानां ज्येष्ठो यो वृत्रहा गृणे
He is the king of peoples, the chariot-rider without blemish, the conqueror of all battles, the eldest, the slayer of Vritra whom I praise.
इन्द्रं तं शुम्भ पुरुहन्मन्न् अवसे यस्य द्विता विधर्तरि । हस्ताय वज्रः प्रति धायि दर्शतो महो दिवे न सूर्यः
Adorn Indra, the wise, for help, whose power is unmatched; the thunderbolt is placed in his hand, radiant as the sun in the vast sky.
तव त्यदिन्द्रियं बृहत्तव शुष्ममुत क्रतुम् । वज्रं शिशाति धिषणा वरेण्यम्
Your strength, Indra, is vast; your power and wisdom are great; the thunderbolt, most excellent, is sharpened by your intellect.
तव द्यौरिन्द्र पौंस्यं पृथिवी वर्धति श्रवः । त्वामापः पर्वतासश्च हिन्विरे
Heaven, Indra, grows strong through your manliness; earth increases your fame; the waters and mountains urge you onward.
त्वां विष्णुर्बृहन् क्षयो मित्रो गृणाति वरुणः । त्वां शर्धो मदत्यनु मारुतम्
Vishnu, the mighty, praises you; Mitra and Varuna honor you; your host rejoices, following Marut.
20.107 समस्य मन्यवे विशो विश्वा नमन्त कृष्टयः । समुद्रायेव सिन्धवः
For his wrath, all peoples bow, just as rivers bow to the ocean.
ओजस्तदस्य तित्विष उभे यत्समवर्तयत्। इन्द्रश्चर्मेव रोदसी
His vigor and brilliance, when he brought both together, Indra enveloped the heavens like a covering.
वि चिद्वृत्रस्य दोधतो वज्रेण शतपर्वणा । शिरो बिभेद्वृष्णिना
With the hundred-knotted thunderbolt, he split the head of the resisting Vritra.
तदिदास भुवनेषु ज्येष्ठं यतो जज्ञ उग्रस्त्वेषनृम्णः । सद्यो जज्ञानो नि रिणाति शत्रून् अनु यदेनं मदन्ति विश्व ऊमाः
He is the greatest among beings, born fierce and heroic; newly born, he immediately destroys enemies, and all powers rejoice in him.
वावृधानः शवसा भूर्योजाः शत्रुर्दासाय भियसं दधाति । अव्यनच्च व्यनच्च सस्नि सं ते नवन्त प्रभृता मदेषु
Increasing in might and abundant strength, he brings fear to the enemy for the Dasa; he protected and defended, and all your gifts are offered in the intoxications.
त्वे क्रतुमपि पृञ्चन्ति भूरि द्विर्यदेते त्रिर्भवन्त्यूमाः । स्वादोः स्वादीयः स्वादुना सृजा समदः सु मधु मधुनाभि योधीः
They fill you with wisdom, abundant and twice, when these powers become threefold; the sweetest, sweeter than sweet, release the joy, O intoxicating one, join the honey with honey.
यदि चिन् नु त्वा धना जयन्तं रणेरणे अनुमदन्ति विप्राः । ओजीयः शुष्मिन्त्स्थिरमा तनुष्व मा त्वा दभन् दुरेवासः कशोकाः
Even if the sages praise you as victorious in battle, strengthen your firm body, O mighty one; let not the evil-minded or sorrowful harm you.
त्वया वयं शाशद्महे रणेषु प्रपश्यन्तो युधेन्यानि भूरि । चोदयामि त आयुधा वचोभिः सं ते शिशामि ब्रह्मणा वयांसि
With you, we gain victory in battles, seeing many acts of war; I urge your weapons with words, I sharpen your strength with prayer.
नि तद्दधिषेऽवरे परे च यस्मिन्न् आविथावसा दुरोणे । आ स्थापयत मातरं जिगत्नुमत इन्वत कर्वराणि भूरि
You place that in the lower and upper realms, in which you dwell in the home; establish the mother, the moving one, and stir many treasures.
स्तुष्व वर्ष्मन् पुरुवर्त्मानं समृभ्वाणमिनतममाप्तमाप्त्यानाम् । आ दर्शति शवसा भूर्योजाः प्र सक्षति प्रतिमानं पृथिव्याः
Praise the one who dwells in the heights, who moves on many paths, who is mighty, most powerful among the powerful. By his strength he reveals vast energy, he extends the measure of the earth.
इमा ब्रह्म बृहद्दिवः कृणवदिन्द्राय शूषमग्नियः स्वर्षाः । महो गोत्रस्य क्षयति स्वराजा तुरश्चिद्विश्वमर्णवत्तपस्वान्
These hymns, born of the great heaven, have made a shout for Indra, for Agni, bringers of light. The lord of the great clan rules in splendor; even the swift one, full of power, surpasses all with his austerity.
