अतीदु शक्र ओहत इन्द्रो विश्वा अति द्विषः । भिनत्कनीन ओदनं पच्यमानं परो गिरा
Indeed, O mighty one, Indra, you have overcome all hatreds; you split the unboiled porridge, cooking on the far side of the mountain, with your word.
अर्भको न कुमारकोऽधि तिष्ठन्न् अवं रथम् । स पक्षन् महिषं मृगं पित्रे मात्रे विभुक्रतुम्
Like a young boy, a child, standing on the lower chariot, he apportioned the buffalo, the beast, to father and mother, with wise intent.
आ तू सुशिप्र दंपते रथं तिष्ठा हिरण्ययम् । अध द्युक्षं सचेवहि सहस्रपादमरुषं स्वस्तिगामनेहसम्
Come, O fair-bearded lord of the household, mount the golden chariot; then, be united with the shining one, the thousand-footed, the ruddy, bringing well-being and free from harm.
तं घेमित्था नमस्विन उप स्वराजमासते । अर्थं चिदस्य सुधितं यदेतवे आवर्तयन्ति दावने
To him, thus, the reverent ones approach the self-ruling king; even for the sake of his wealth, they turn again and again, as for fuel for the fire.
अनु प्रत्नस्यौकसः प्रियमेधास एषाम् । पूर्वामनु प्रयतिं वृक्तबर्हिषो हितप्रयस आशत
In accord with the ancient dwelling, these beloved in sacrifice have sought the former path, those who spread the sacred grass, intent on the offering.
यो राजा चर्षणीनां याता रथेभिरध्रिगुः । विश्वासां तरुता पृतनानां ज्येष्ठो यो वृत्रहा गृणे
He who is king of the peoples, charioteer, unwearied, destroyer of all hosts, eldest, the slayer of Vritra—I praise him.
इन्द्रं तं शुम्भ पुरुहन्मन्न् अवसे यस्य द्विता विधर्तरि । हस्ताय वज्रः प्रति धायि दर्शतो महो दिवे न सूर्यः
Glorify that Indra, much-invoked, for help, in whose two hands the thunderbolt was placed, visible like the great sun in the sky.
नकिष्टं कर्मणा नशद्यश्चकार सदावृधम् । इन्द्रं न यज्ञैर्विश्वगूर्तमृभ्वसमधृष्टं धृष्ण्वोजसम्
No one by action can harm him who has done ever-growing deeds; like Indra, famed everywhere, unconquered, strong in might, and full of vigor.
अषाल्हमुग्रं पृतनासु सासहिं यस्मिन् महीरुरुज्रयः । सं धेनवो जायमाने अनोनवुर्द्यावः क्षामो अनोनवुः
He who is not weak, fierce in battles, unconquered, in whom great powers are set—when he is born, cows do not diminish, nor do heaven and earth decrease.
यद्द्याव इन्द्र ते शतं शतं भूमीरुत स्युः । न त्वा वज्रिन्त्सहस्रं सूर्या अनु न जातमष्ट रोदसी
Even if you, Indra, had a hundred heavens, a hundred earths, or thousands of suns, not even a thousand thunderbolts could surpass you, nor all that has been born in the eight regions.
आ पप्राथ महिना वृष्ण्या वृषन् विश्वा शविष्ठ शवसा । अस्मामव मघवन् गोमति व्रजे वज्रिं चित्राभिरूतिभिः
You have expanded with your might and manliness, O powerful one, with all your strength. Protect us, O generous one, in the herd rich with cattle, O wielder of the thunderbolt, with your splendid aids.
उत्त्वा मन्दन्तु स्तोमाः कृणुष्व राधो अद्रिवः । अव ब्रह्मद्विषो जहि
Let hymns praise you; grant us wealth, O stone-wielder. Strike down those who hate sacred knowledge.
पदा पणींरराधसो नि बाधस्व महामसि । नहि त्वा कश्चन प्रति
With your foot, drive away the stingy and the wealth-withholders, for you are great; no one can oppose you.
त्वमीशिषे सुतानामिन्द्र त्वमसुतानाम् । त्वं राजा जनानाम्
You are the lord of the pressed Soma, Indra, and of the unpressed; you are the king of the people.
ईङ्खयन्तीरपस्युव इन्द्रं जातमुपासते । भेजानासः सुवीर्यम्
Longing, they look upon Indra, the born one, and worship him, seeking to share in his heroic strength.
त्वमिन्द्र बलादधि सहसो जात ओजसः । त्वं वृषन् वृषेदसि
You, Indra, are established in strength, born of power and vigor; you, the mighty one, excel in might.
त्वमिन्द्रासि वृत्रहा व्यन्तरिक्षमतिरः । उद्द्यामस्तभ्ना ओजसा
You, Indra, are the slayer of Vṛtra; you have surpassed the midspace; you have upheld the heavens with your power.
त्वमिन्द्र सजोषसमर्कं बिभर्षि बाह्वोः । वज्रं शिशान ओजसा
You, Indra, bear the thunderbolt with both arms, united in purpose, grasping the weapon with your strength.
त्वमिन्द्राभिभुरसि विश्वा जातान्योजसा । स विश्वा भुव आभवः
You, Indra, are all-conquering; with your power you surpass all that has come into being; you are the source of all existences.
आ यात्विन्द्रः स्वपतिर्मदाय यो धर्मणा तूतुजानस्तुविष्मान् । प्रत्वक्षाणो अति विश्वा सहांस्यपारेण महता वृष्ण्येन
Let Indra, the lord of wealth, come for exhilaration, who, steadfast in law, is eager and powerful, whose form is turned toward all victories, with boundless, great manliness.
सुष्ठामा रथः सुयमा हरी ते मिम्यक्ष वज्रो नृपते गभस्तौ । शीभं राजन् सुपथा याह्यर्वाङ्वर्धाम ते पपुसो वृष्ण्यानि
Your chariot is well-made, your steeds well-yoked, O lord; the thunderbolt is in your grasp, O king. O ruler, travel by the good path; let your manly powers increase for us, O Soma-drinker.
एन्द्रवाहो नृपतिं वज्रबाहुमुग्रमुग्रासस्तविषास एनम् । प्रत्वक्षसं वृषभं सत्यशुष्ममेमस्मत्रा सधमादो वहन्तु
Let those who bear Indra, the king, the thunder-armed, the fierce, the fierce-armed, the powerful, carry him, the bull with true strength, whose form is turned toward us, to our assembly.
एवा पतिं द्रोणसाचं सचेतसमूर्ज स्कम्भं धरुण आ वृषायसे । ओजः कृष्व सं गृभाय त्वे अप्यसो यथा केनिपानामिनो वृधे
Thus, as lord, as the wise one, as the support of strength, you are established in the vessel, O vigorous one. Take up your power, seize it for yourself, as the Kenipānas, ever increasing, do.
गमन्न् अस्मे वसून्या हि शंसिषं स्वाशिषं भरमा याहि सोमिनः । त्वमीशिषे सास्मिन्न् आ सत्सि बर्हिष्यनाधृष्या तव पात्राणि धर्मणा
May riches come to us; I have praised you. Bring us your favor, bring the blessings of the Soma-offerer. You are the lord; sit here on this sacred grass, invincible, your vessels established by law.
पृथक्प्रायन् प्रथमा देवहूतयोऽकृण्वत श्रवस्यानि दुष्टरा । न ये शेकुर्यज्ञियां नावमारुहमिर्मैव ते न्यविशन्त केपयः
Separately, the first divine invocations have made renowned, hard-to-overcome things. Those who could not board the sacrificial ship did not settle among the Kenipas.
एवैवापागपरे सन्तु दूध्योऽश्वा येषां दुर्युग आयुयुज्रे । इत्था ये प्रागुपरे सन्ति दावने पुरूणि यत्र वयुनानि भोजना
Let those who are far away, at the other shore, remain distant—whose horses are badly yoked. Thus, those who are earlier or later at the burning, where there are many paths and foods.
गिरींरज्रान् रेजमानामधारयद्द्यौः क्रन्ददन्तरिक्षाणि कोपयत्। समीचीने धिषणे वि ष्कभायति वृष्णः पीत्वा मद उक्थानि शंसति
When the trembling mountain was upheld, the heavens roared and the midspaces were shaken; the wise one, drawing near, steadies both, and the mighty one, having drunk the exhilaration, proclaims the hymns.
इमं बिभर्मि सुकृतं ते अङ्कुशं येनारुजासि मघवं छफारुजः । अस्मिन्त्सु ते सवने अस्त्वोक्त्यं सुत इष्टौ मघवन् बोध्याभगः
I hold for you this well-made goad, by which you strike Maghavan and break the hooves; may the pressed and offered Soma be your portion in this very sacrifice, O Maghavan, be awake to the share.
गोभिष्टरेमामतिं दुरेवां यवेन क्षुधं पुरुहूत विश्वाम् । वयं राजभिः प्रथमा धनान्यस्माकेन वृजनेना जयेम
With cows, with barley, with all food, O much-invoked one, drive away hunger and all harm; may we, with our leaders, win the foremost wealth by our own force in the contest.
बृहस्पतिर्नः परि पातु पश्चादुतोत्तरस्मादधरादघयोः । इन्द्रः पुरस्तादुत मध्यतो नः सखा सखिभ्यो वरिवः कृणोतु
May Bṛhaspati protect us from behind, from above, from below, from all harm; may Indra guard us in front and in the middle, as a friend, making a path for his friends.
