O Bṛhaspati, those who speak farthest, who are highest, the righteous have sat down near you; for you, the hollowed ones, the milked from the rock, pour forth honey all around the abundant one.
Bṛhaspati, when first born, in the highest heaven of great light, with seven mouths, born of sacred chant, with his roar, he drove away the darkness with his seven rays.
With the Sūṣṭubh and Ṛk verses, with his troop, he shattered Vala, the enclosing one, with his roar; Bṛhaspati, the summoner of offerings, bellowing, drove forth the lowing cows.
Thus, to the Father, to the All-Gods, to the mighty one, let us offer sacrifices, reverence, and oblations; O Bṛhaspati, may we be blessed with good offspring, heroic, and lords of riches.
Like a skilled archer aiming at the target, or one adorned, bring forth your praise to him; with speech, O wise ones, let the noble utter the hymn, let the singer call Soma and Indra.
With milking, seek the cow, your companion; awaken, O singer, the ancient Indra; like a full vessel, rich in goods, unstinted, stir up the hero to grant the gift of wealth.
What, O bountiful one, do they say you are enjoying? Restrain yourself, for I hear you are not to be restrained; let my prayer, O Śakra, bring us the share of wealth, O Indra, bring us the portion of the treasure-knower.
People, O Indra, call upon you in their true needs, standing together in assembly; here, whoever has an offering, makes you his ally—the hero does not desire friendship with one who does not press Soma.
He who, eager, offers to him strong, pure Somas, abundant, like unfailing wealth— for him, you strike down enemies, rivals, and foes, and in the morning, you slay Vṛtra for him.
In whom we place our praise, in Indra—he who, the bountiful, has shown us favor; even from afar, let the enemy fear him; may all glories bow before him for us.
Drive the enemy far away, keep him at a distance, O mighty one, O much-invoked; grant us, Indra, barley and cattle, and bestow wisdom and prize-winning strength upon the singer.
Those who, clothed in strength, within, with swift, abundant Somas, approach Indra on the path—never do the generous ones restrain him; to the one who presses Soma, he brings much wealth.
He too, who, desiring the gods, does not withhold wealth, but at the right time distributes it as if it were a slaughtering-knife, wins by day, and, like a completed task, divides it; with his own means, he brings forth a stream of riches.
With cows, with barley, or with grain, O much-invoked one, drive away hunger and evil intent from us; may we, unharmed, be foremost among kings in wealth, victorious with our bands.
May Bṛhaspati protect us from behind, and from above and below, from harm; may Indra, our friend, be in front and in the midst, making us superior to our companions.

Even for the people who call upon him, Bṛhaspati has made a world in the invocation of the gods; striking down the adversaries, he shatters the fortresses, conquers enemies and foes in battles.
Bṛhaspati has won the treasures, this god of great wealth, lord of cattle; seeking the waters, inspired by the sun, Bṛhaspati strikes down the foe with his hymns.
The father found this lofty thought, born of truth, seven-headed; he generated a fourth, universal offspring; from him, the hymn was composed in praise of Indra.
Proclaiming truth, shining straight, sons of heaven, heroes of the divine lord, the Aṅgirases, holding the wise one's place, contemplate the first abode of sacrifice.
Like swans, speaking together with friends, breaking through stone enclosures, Bṛhaspati, loudly roaring, approached the cows; he sent forth a high song, the wise one sang.
Two by two, and one apart, the cows stood hidden at the boundary of falsehood; seeking light in the darkness, Bṛhaspati brought forth three shining ones from their enclosure.
Splitting the fortress, lying to the west, he cut through three together with the ocean; Bṛhaspati, thundering like the sky, discovered the dawn, the sun, the cows, and the light.
Indra, with his roar, cut through Vala, the guardian of the milch cows, as with a hand; desiring the butter-clad treasure, he made the Paṇis weep and released the cows.
With true, shining companions, he shattered the iron fortress with his wealth; Bṛhaspati, with bulls of choice strength, with the heat of sweat, distributed the riches.

With true minds, they sought the lord of cows, advancing with inspired thoughts; Bṛhaspati, with mutual praises, released the shining ones with their own teams.
Exalting him with auspicious thoughts, roaring like a lion in the assembly, may we rejoice in Bṛhaspati, the mighty, victorious in every contest.
When he harnessed the all-formed prize, he made the upper regions of heaven resound; exalting Bṛhaspati, the mighty, being diverse, they bore the light as their banner.
Grant us true blessing for long life; even the singer you help with your own aids; may all hostilities be behind us—may heaven and earth hear all this, all around.
