Let your two tawny steeds, yoked by prayer, bring you, Indra; listen to our prayers.
With prayer we, the Soma-offerers, call you, Indra, drinker of Soma, when the Soma is pressed.
They yoke the spotted, ruddy one, moving around those who stand still; the lights shine in the sky.
They yoke his beloved two bay steeds, with beautiful wings, to the chariot; red, bold, bringing men.
Making a sign for the signless, a form for the formless, you were born together with the dawns.
Upward the rays bear that Jātavedas, the god, for all to see, the sun.
As thieves go away, so do those rays depart with the nights, for the sun, the all-seeing.
His rays have been seen, his beams among the people, shining like fires.
Swift one, all-seeing, maker of light you are, O Sun; you shine upon all the regions.
You turn back the hosts of the gods, you turn back the hosts of men, you turn back all the shining world for the seer.
With that radiant eye, O Varuṇa, by which you see all moving people, you observe, O Varuṇa.
You travel across the broad expanse of the sky with your rays, O Sun, beholding the births of men.
Seven bay steeds draw you, O divine Sun, on your chariot—brilliant-haired, all-seeing.
The Sun, offspring of the chariot, has yoked seven swift mares; with these self-yoked ones he journeys.
To you, the radiant, the hymns pour forth, swift as horses—like cows to a calf.
They flow forth, shining, abundant with radiance and milk, as the mother brings forth the newborn from her heart.
With the strength of the thunderbolt, fame has brought the dying man—life, clarified butter, and milk to me.
This spotted cow has stepped forth, advancing to her mother and seeking her father.
He moves within the shining realms, from his breath and out-breath; the great buffalo has declared the light.
With thirty abodes he shines forth; the bird of speech has soared, responding to the call of the radiant dawns.
When, O mighty one, you ascended speech and sought to master the midspace, the gods rejoiced together, O bull.
O mighty one, empower speech with boldness, make the voice wide and unassailable; be most exalted in your joy in heaven.
O mighty one, empower speech with boldness; the abode of law shines forth; let them rejoice, having prepared the sacred grass.
We praise that wondrous, death-conquering, exhilarating Indra with hymns, as cows in their stalls praise a calf.
We seek the shining, generous, powerful one, surrounded by strength—like a mountain rich in treasures—abundant in food, wealth, thousands, and quickly full of cattle.
I approach your heroic power, that sacred knowledge of old, by which you aided the striving Bhrigus in their quest for wealth, and by which you protected Praskanva.
By which, O mighty Indra, you set the great rivers in motion and made the ocean flow—by your strength; immediately his greatness does not diminish, whom the earth has not subdued.
Who among mortals is worthy to praise the swift Atasīna horses? None have fully praised his greatness and power, though they have sung of him.
When do the singers, the righteous, the inspired ones, call upon the god? Which sage, which wise man, invokes him? When, O generous Indra, will you come to the pressed Soma, to the song of praise?
Now praise Indra, the bestower of riches, as is fitting, who is known to you—he, the generous one, who grants to the singers abundant wealth, as if by the thousands.
