अग्ने अच्छा वदेह नः प्रत्यङ्नः सुमना भव । प्र णो यच्छ विशां पते धनदा असि नस्त्वम्
Agni, come to us, speak for us, be kindly disposed toward us; grant us favor, lord of the people, for you are our giver of wealth.
प्र णो यच्छत्वर्यमा प्र भगः प्र बृहस्पतिः । प्र देवीः प्रोत सूनृता रयिं देवी दधातु मे
Let Aryaman grant us favor, let Bhaga, let Bṛhaspati; let the goddesses, the gracious ones, bestow wealth upon me.
सोमं राजानमवसेऽग्निं गीर्भिर्हवामहे । आदित्यं विष्णुं सूर्यं ब्रह्माणं च बृहस्पतिम्
We call for help upon King Soma, upon Agni with our songs; upon Āditya, Viṣṇu, Sūrya, and upon Bṛhaspati, the priest.
त्वं नो अग्ने अग्निभिर्ब्रह्म यज्ञं वर्धय । त्वं नो देव दातवे रयिं दानाय चोदय
You, Agni, with the other fires, increase our prayer and sacrifice; you, O god, urge on wealth for us, for giving and for receiving.
इन्द्रवायू उभाविह सुहवेह हवामहे । यथा नः सर्व इज्जनः संगत्यां सुमना असद्दानकामश्च नो भुवत्
Here we invoke you both, Indra and Vāyu, who are easily called; may all people be well-disposed toward us in assembly, and may the giver of gifts and the seeker of gifts both be favorable to us.
अर्यमणं बृहस्पतिमिन्द्रं दानाय चोदय । वातं विष्णुं सरस्वतीं सवितारं च वाजिनम्
Urge Aryaman, Bṛhaspati, and Indra to give; and also Vāta, Viṣṇu, Sarasvatī, and Savitṛ, the bestower of strength.
वाजस्य नु प्रसवे सं बभूविमेमा च विश्वा भुवनानि अन्तः । उतादित्सन्तं दापयतु प्रजानन् रयिं च नः सर्ववीरं नि यच्छ
At the outpouring of strength, may we unite, and may all these worlds be within us; let the wise one make the generous giver give, and grant us wealth abounding in heroes.
दुह्रां मे पञ्च प्रदिशो दुह्रामुर्वीर्यथाबलम् । प्रापेयं सर्वा आकूतीर्मनसा हृदयेन च
May the five regions yield for me, may the wide earth yield according to strength; may I attain all my desires with mind and heart.
गोसनिं वाचमुदेयं वर्चसा माभ्युदिहि । आ रुन्धां सर्वतो वायुस्त्वष्टा पोषं दधातु मे
May I utter speech rich as a herd of cows, may you grant me brilliance; let Vāyu restrain from all sides, and may Tvaṣṭṛ bestow prosperity upon me.
ये अग्नयो अप्स्वन्तर्ये वृत्रे ये पुरुषे ये अश्मसु । य आविवेशोषधीर्यो वनस्पतींस्तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
Those fires that are in the waters, those in obstacles, those in people, those in stones, those that have entered plants and trees—to all those fires, this offering is made.
यः सोमे अन्तर्यो गोष्वन्तर्य आविष्टो वयःसु यो मृगेषु । य आविवेश द्विपदो यस्चतुष्पदस्तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
The fire that is within Soma, within cows, within birds, within wild animals, that has entered bipeds and quadrupeds—to all those fires, this offering is made.
य इन्द्रेण सरथं याति देवो वैश्वानर उत विश्वदाव्यः । यं जोहवीमि पृतनासु सासहिं तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
The fire that goes with Indra in the chariot, the god Vaiśvānara, the all-conquering one, whom I invoke in battles, the victorious one—to all those fires, this offering is made.
यो देवो विश्वाद्यमु काममाहुर्यं दातारं प्रतिगृह्णन्तमाहुः । यो धीरः शक्रः परिभूरदाभ्यस्तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
The god whom they call the fulfiller of all desires, whom they call the giver and receiver, who is wise, mighty, and unconquered—to all those fires, this offering is made.
यं त्वा होतारं मनसाभि संविदुस्त्रयोदश भौवनाः पञ्च मानवाः । वर्चोधसे यशसे सूनृतावते तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
Whom as Hotar the thirteen worlds and the five races of men have recognized with their minds, for brilliance, fame, and eloquence—to all those fires, this offering is made.
उक्षान्नाय वशान्नाय सोमपृष्ठाय वेधसे । वैश्वानरज्येष्ठेभ्यस्तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
To the fire for cooked food, for clarified butter, for the one who has Soma as his portion, for the wise, for Vaiśvānara, the eldest—to all those fires, this offering is made.
दिवं पृथिवीमन्वन्तरिक्षं ये विद्युतमनुसंचरन्ति । ये दिक्ष्वन्तर्ये वाते अन्तस्तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
Those who move through heaven, earth, and the atmosphere, who follow the lightning, who are in the directions, who are in the wind—to all those fires, this offering is made.
हिरण्यपाणिं सवितारमिन्द्रं बृहस्पतिं वरुणं मित्रमग्निम् । विश्वान् देवान् अङ्गिरसो हवामहे इमं क्रव्यादं शमयन्त्वग्निम्
We invoke Savitṛ with golden hands, Indra, Bṛhaspati, Varuṇa, Mitra, Agni, all the gods, and the Aṅgirasas; may they pacify this flesh-eating Agni.
शान्तो अग्निः क्रव्याच्छान्तः पुरुषरेषणः । अथो यो विश्वदाव्यस्तं क्रव्यादमशीशमम्
May Agni, the flesh-eater, be pacified; may the one who seeks out people be pacified; and may the all-conquering flesh-eater be appeased.
ये पर्वताः सोमपृष्ठा आप उत्तानशीवरीः । वातः पर्जन्य आदग्निस्ते क्रव्यादमशीशमन्
The mountains, those with Soma on their backs, the waters, the widely flowing rivers, the wind, Parjanya, and Agni—they have pacified this flesh-eater.
हस्तिवर्चसं प्रथतां बृहद्यशो अदित्या यत्तन्वः संबभूव । तत्सर्वे समदुर्मह्यमेतद्विश्वे देवा अदितिः सजोषाः
May elephant-like radiance and great fame spread forth, which have arisen from your bodies, O Ādityas; may all the gods, united with Aditi, grant this to me.
मित्रश्च वरुणश्चेन्द्रो रुद्रश्च चेततु । देवासो विश्वधायसस्ते माञ्जन्तु वर्चसा
Let Mitra, Varuṇa, Indra, and Rudra be aware; may all the gods, who are universal givers, grant me radiance.
येन हस्ती वर्चसा संबभूव येन राजा मनुष्येस्वप्स्वन्तः । येन देवा देवतामग्र आयन् तेन मामद्य वर्चसाग्ने वर्चस्विनं कृणु
By which the elephant became radiant, by which the king among men and in the waters became so, by which the gods first attained divinity—by that, O Agni, make me radiant today, make me one endowed with radiance.
यत्ते वर्चो जातवेदो बृहद्भवत्याहुतेः । यावत्सूर्यस्य वर्च आसुरस्य च हस्तिनः । तावन् मे अश्विना वर्च आ धत्तां पुष्करस्रजा
O Jātavedas, whatever radiance becomes great for you at the offering, as much as is the brilliance of the sun and of the mighty elephant, may the Aśvins, adorned with lotus garlands, grant me that same radiance.
यावच्चतस्रः प्रदिशश्चक्षुर्यावत्समश्नुते । तावत्समैत्विन्द्रियं मयि तद्धस्तिवर्चसम्
As far as the four directions extend the sight, as far as vision reaches, so far may my vigor and strength be, with the radiance of the elephant's hand.
हस्ती मृगाणां सुषदामतिष्ठावान् बभूव हि । तस्य भगेन वर्चसाभि षिञ्चामि मामहम्
Among the animals, the elephant stands as the best of the strong; with a portion of his radiance, I sprinkle myself.
येन वेहद्बभूविथ नाशयामसि तत्त्वत्। इदं तदन्यत्र त्वदप दूरे नि दध्मसि
By which you became strong, with that we drive away harm; this, indeed, we set far away from you, elsewhere, far off.
आ ते योनिं गर्भ एतु पुमान् बाण इवेषुधिम् । आ वीरोऽत्र जायतां पुत्रस्ते दशमास्यः
May a male embryo enter your womb, like an arrow into a quiver; may a heroic son be born here, your ten-month child.
पुमांसं पुत्रं जनय तं पुमान् अनु जायताम् । भवासि पुत्राणां माता जातानां जनयाश्च यान्
Give birth to a male child, and may a male be born after him; be the mother of sons, both those already born and those yet to be born.
यानि भद्राणि बीजान्यृषभा जनयन्ति च । तैस्त्वं पुत्रं विन्दस्व सा प्रसूर्धेनुका भव
Whatever auspicious seeds the bulls generate, with those may you obtain a son; be a fruitful mother-cow.
कृणोमि ते प्राजापत्यमा योनिं गर्भ एतु ते । विन्दस्व त्वं पुत्रं नारि यस्तुभ्यं शमसच्छमु तस्मै त्वं भव
I make for you the procreative power; may an embryo enter your womb. Obtain a son, woman, who will bring you joy—be to him as you should.
