वावृधानस्य ते वयं विश्वा धनानि जिग्युषः । ऊतिमिन्द्रा वृणीमहे
Of you, ever-increasing, we seek all the treasures of the conqueror; O Indra, we choose your aid.
व्यन्तरिक्षमतिरन् मदे सोमस्य रोचना । इन्द्रो यदभिनद्वलम्
He split the midspace, the mind in the intoxication of Soma, and the shining regions, when Indra struck the barrier.
उद्गा आजदङ्गिरोभ्य आविष्क्र्ण्वन् गुहा सतीः । अर्वाञ्चं नुनुदे वलम्
He drove forth the cows for the Angirases, revealing those who were hidden; he pushed the barrier forward.
इन्द्रेण रोचना दिवो दृल्हानि दृंहितानि च । स्थिराणि न पराणुदे
By Indra, the shining regions of the sky, both firm and established, remain unshaken.
अपामूर्मिर्मदन्न् इव स्तोम इन्द्राजिरायते । वि ते मदा अराजिषुः
Like the swelling of waters, the hymn rises to Indra with vigor; your exhilarations have spread forth.
त्वं हि स्तोमवर्धन इन्द्रास्युक्थवर्धनः । स्तोतॄणामुत भद्रकृत्
For you, Indra, are the increaser of hymns, the increaser of praises; you also bring good fortune to the singers.
इन्द्रमित्केशिना हरी सोमपेयाय वक्षतः । उप यज्ञं सुराधसम्
Indra's tawny steeds, adorned with manes, carry him to drink Soma; they approach the sacrifice, rich in gifts.
अपां फेनेन नमुचेः शिर इन्द्रोदवर्तयः । विश्वा यदजय स्पृधः
With the foam of waters, Indra struck off Namuci's head, when he conquered all the contests.
मायाभिरुत्सिसृप्सत इन्द्र द्यामारुरुक्षतः । अव दस्यूंरधूनुथाः
With your powers, Indra, you wished to ascend the sky; you shook down the Dasyus.
असुन्वामिन्द्र संसदं विषूचीं व्यनाशयः । सोमपा उत्तरो भवन्
Indra, you destroyed the assembly of those who do not press Soma, dispersing them; you became the supreme Soma-drinker.
प्र ते महे विदथे शंसिषं हरी प्र ते वन्वे वनुषो हर्यतं मदम् । घृतं न यो हरिभिश्चारु सेचत आ त्वा विशन्तु हरिवर्पसं गिरः
I praise you in the great assembly, O Indra, and invoke your steeds; let the delight of the vigorous be yours, like clarified butter poured by your horses; let the hymns enter you, whose form is golden.
हरिं हि योनिमभि ये समस्वरन् हिन्वन्तो हरी दिव्यं यथा सदः । आ यं पृणन्ति हरिभिर्न धेनव इन्द्राय शूषं हरिवन्तमर्चत
Those who sing together, stirring your horses as in the celestial abode, fill you with your steeds, as cows fill the vessel; praise Indra, the mighty, endowed with horses.
सो अस्य वज्रो हरितो य आयसो हरिर्निकामो हरिरा गभस्त्योः । द्युम्नी सुशिप्रो हरिमन्युसायक इन्द्रे नि रूपा हरिता मिमिक्षिरे
His thunderbolt is tawny, made of iron; his desire is tawny, his arms are tawny; splendid, fair-cheeked, his wrath is tawny; in Indra, the forms of tawny have been measured.
दिवि न केतुरधि धायि हर्यतो विव्यचद्वज्रो हरितो न रंह्या । तुददहिं हरिशिप्रो य आयसः सहस्रशोका अभवद्धरिम्भरः
Like a beacon in the sky, the tawny thunderbolt is placed; the tawny, splendid thunderbolt is victorious; he struck the serpent, the fair-cheeked, iron one; the bearer of tawny became thousand-flamed.
त्वंत्वमहर्यथा उपस्तुतः पूर्वेभिरिन्द्र हरिकेश यज्वभिः । त्वं हर्यसि तव विश्वमुक्थ्यमसामि राधो हरिजात हर्यतम्
You, O Indra, have been praised as the tawny-haired by the ancient sacrificers; you are tawny, all your deeds are praiseworthy; your bounty, born of tawny, is most tawny.
ता वज्रिणं मन्दिनं स्तोम्यं मद इन्द्रं रथे वहतो हर्यता हरी । पुरूण्यस्मै सवनानि हर्यत इन्द्राय सोमा हरयो दधन्विरे
To the wielder of the thunderbolt, the joyous, the praised, the exhilarated Indra, the tawny steeds draw the chariot; for him, many Soma libations are prepared, the tawny ones have placed Soma for Indra.
अरं कामाय हरयो दधन्विरे स्थिराय हिन्वन् हरयो हरी तुरा । अर्वद्भिर्यो हरिभिर्जोषमीयते सो अस्य कामं हरिवन्तमानशे
The tawny ones have placed Soma for desire, for firmness, urging the tawny steeds swiftly; he who delights with his tawny horses, fulfills his desire with tawny joy.
हरिश्मशारुर्हरिकेश आयसस्तुरस्पेये यो हरिपा अवर्धत । अर्वद्भिर्यो हरिभिर्वाजिनीवसुरति विश्वा दुरिता पारिषद्धरी
With tawny beard and tawny hair, iron-bodied, swift, he who drinks with the tawny ones has grown strong; he who, with his tawny horses, is rich in steeds, drives away all misfortunes with his tawny steeds.
श्रुवेव यस्य हरिणी विपेततुः शिप्रे वाजाय हरिणी दविध्वतः । प्र यत्कृते चमसे मर्मृजद्धरी पीत्वा मदस्य हर्यतस्यान्धसः
As if for hearing, his tawny mares have scattered; for victory, his tawny mares have rushed forth; for the sake of the cup, his tawny ones have cleansed it; having drunk the exhilaration of the tawny Soma.
आ रोदसी हर्यमाणो महित्वा नव्यंनव्यं हर्यसि मन्म नु प्रियम् । प्र पस्त्यमसुर हर्यतं गोराविष्कृधि हरये सूर्याय
Across heaven and earth, you are praised for greatness; again and again you delight in this dear hymn; reveal the dwelling, O lord, for the tawny one, for the cow, for the sun.
आ त्वा हर्यन्तं प्रयुजो जनानां रथे वहन्तु हरिशिप्रमिन्द्र । पिबा यथा प्रतिभृतस्य मध्वो हर्यन् यज्ञं सधमादे दशोणिम्
Let your tawny-cheeked horses draw you, Indra, among the people; drink as you desire the sweet beverage, delight in the sacrifice, in the assembly, O tawny one.
अपाः पूर्वेषां हरिवः सुतानामथो इदं सवनं केवलं ते । ममद्धि सोमं मधुमन्तमिन्द्र सत्रा वृषं जठर आ वृषस्व
Of the earlier pressed Somas, O tawny one, and now this exclusive libation is yours; drink the honeyed Soma, Indra, fill your belly with the mighty, the bull's strength.
अप्सु धूतस्य हरिवः पिबेह नृभिः सुतस्य जठरं पृणस्व । मिमिक्षुर्यमद्रय इन्द्र तुभ्यं तेभिर्वर्धस्व मदमुक्थवाहः
O Indra, drink here the pressed Soma, purified in the waters, together with men; fill your belly with the libation. Desiring to be intoxicated, the Soma-juices are prepared for you; grow strong with them, O bringer of exhilaration and hymns.
प्रोग्रां पीतिं वृष्ण इयर्मि सत्यां प्रयै सुतस्य हर्यश्व तुभ्यम् । इन्द्र धेनाभिरिह मादयस्व धीभिर्विश्वाभिः शच्या गृणानः
I offer to you, Indra of the bay steeds, the true and powerful drink of the pressed Soma. Rejoice here, Indra, with the nourishing streams, delighting in all the hymns and with your might praised by our songs.
ऊती शचीवस्तव वीर्येण वयो दधाना उशिज ऋतज्ञाः । प्रजावदिन्द्र मंसो दुरोणे तस्थुर्गृणन्तः सधमाद्यासः
With your protection, O possessor of power, and with your strength, the wise and truthful singers, bearing vigor, have taken their place in the home, O Indra, praising you, desiring to share the feast.
यो जात एव प्रथमो मनस्वान् देवो देवान् क्रतुना पर्यभूषत्। यस्य शुष्माद्रोदसी अभ्यसेतां नृम्णस्य मह्ना स जनास इन्द्रः
He who, being born, was the first and most powerful, the god who surpassed the other gods by his will; by whose might heaven and earth are kept apart—he, among men, is Indra.
यः पृथिवीं व्यथमानामदृंहद्यः पर्वतान् प्रकुपितामरम्णात्। यो अन्तरिक्षं विममे वरीयो यो द्यामस्तभ्नात्स जनास इन्द्रः
He who made firm the trembling earth, who calmed the angry mountains; who measured out the wide midspace, who propped up the sky—he, among men, is Indra.
यो हत्वाहिमरिणात्सप्त सिन्धून् यो गा उदाजदपधा वलस्य । यो अश्मनोरन्तरग्निं जजान संवृक्समत्सु स जनास इन्द्रः
He who, having slain the serpent, released the seven rivers; who freed the cows confined by Vala; who generated fire between two stones in the contests—he, among men, is Indra.
येनेमा विश्वा च्यवना कृतानि यो दासं वर्णमधरं गुहाकः । श्वघ्नीव यो जिगीवां लक्षमाददर्यः पुष्टानि स जनास इन्द्रः
He by whom all these moving things were set in motion; who hid the Dasa race, the lower color, in secret; who, like a hunter of dogs, seized the wealth of the living—he, among men, is Indra.
यं स्मा पृच्छन्ति कुह सेति घोरमुतेमाहुर्नैषो अस्तीत्येनम् । सो अर्यः पुष्टीर्विज इवा मिनाति श्रदस्मै धत्त स जनास इन्द्रः
He whom people ask, 'Where is he?' in fear, and some say, 'He does not exist'—he, the noble one, diminishes the wealth of the prosperous as if splitting it; faith is placed in him—he, among men, is Indra.
