तुभ्येदिन्द्र स्व ओक्ये सोमं चोदामि पीतये । एष रारन्तु ते हृदि
To you, Indra, in your own dwelling, I urge Soma for drinking; let this delight stir your heart.
त्वां सुतस्य पीतये प्रत्नमिन्द्र हवामहे । कुशिकासो अवस्यवः
For the drinking of the pressed Soma, we invoke you, Indra, as of old; the Kuśikas, seeking help.
अश्वावति प्रथमो गोषु गच्छति सुप्रावीरिन्द्र मर्त्यस्तवोतिभिः । तमित्पृणक्षि वसुना भवीयसा सिन्धुमापो यथाभितो विचेतसः
The foremost mortal, possessing horses, proceeds among the cows, O Indra, with your help; you fill him with abundant wealth, as the rivers, wise, approach the sea.
आपो न देवीरुप यन्ति होत्रियमवः पश्यन्ति विततं यथा रजः । प्राचैर्देवासः प्र णयन्ति देवयुं ब्रह्मप्रियं जोषयन्ते वरा इव
The divine waters approach the sacrificial priest, seeing the spread out expanse as the sky; the gods lead the devotee forward, delighting in the sacred word, as the best ones do.
अधि द्वयोरदधा उक्थ्यं वचो यतस्रुचा मिथुना या सपर्यतः । असंयत्तो व्रते ते क्षेति पुष्यति भद्रा शक्तिर्यजमानाय सुन्वते
Upon the two, the hymn is placed, the speech, by those who serve, the pair who honor; unbound in your vow, you dwell and prosper, auspicious power for the sacrificer who presses.
आदङ्गिराः प्रथमं दधिरे वय इद्धाग्नयः शम्या ये सुकृत्यया । सर्वं पणेः समविन्दन्त भोजनमश्वावन्तं गोमन्तमा पशुं नरः
The Angiras, first, established the way; the kindled fires, those who act rightly, with skill; they found all the wealth of the Paṇi, the food, the horses, the cows, and the cattle, O men.
यज्ञैरथर्वा प्रथमः पथस्तते ततः सूर्यो व्रतपा वेन आजनि । आ गा आजदुशना काव्यः सचा यमस्य जातममृतं यजामहे
By sacrifices, Atharvan first established the paths; from him, the Sun, the observer of vows, Vena, was born. May Kāvyā Uśanā come together with the cows; we worship the immortal offspring of Yama.
बर्हिर्वा यत्स्वपत्याय वृज्यतेऽर्को वा श्लोकमाघोषते दिवि । ग्रावा यत्र वदति करुरुक्थ्यस्तस्येदिन्द्रो अभिपित्वेषु रण्यति
Where the sacred grass is spread for prosperity, or the hymn resounds in the sky, where the pressing stone speaks and the inspired poet chants—there, indeed, Indra delights in the offerings.
प्रोग्रां पीतिं वृष्ण इयर्मि सत्यां प्रयै सुतस्य हर्यश्व तुभ्यम् । इन्द्र धेनाभिरिह मादयस्व धीभिर्विश्वाभिः शच्या गृणानः
I pour out the strong, true draught for you, O Indra of the tawny steeds, for you to drink. Rejoice here, Indra, with the cows, with all the hymns, praised by every act of power.
योगेयोगे तवस्तरं वाजेवाजे हवामहे । सखाय इन्द्रमूतये
In every union and contest for strength and prize, we call upon Indra, our friend, for help.
आ घा गमद्यदि श्रवत्सहस्रिणीभिरूतिभिः । वाजेभिरुप नो हवम्
May he indeed come, if he hears, with thousands of aids, with prizes, to our invocation.
अनु प्रत्नस्यौकसो हुवे तुविप्रतिं नरम् । यं ते पूर्वं पिता हुवे
I call upon the ancient dwelling, the greatly wise man, whom your father called upon before you.
युञ्जन्ति ब्रध्नमरुषं चरन्तं परि तस्थुषः । रोचन्ते रोचना दिवि
They yoke the bright, ruddy one, moving around those who stand still; the lights shine in the sky.
युञ्जन्ति अस्य काम्या हरी विपक्षसा रथे । शोणा धृष्णू नृवाहसा
They yoke his beloved two bays, with full manes, to the chariot; red, bold, bringing men together.
केतुं कृण्वन्न् अकेतवे पेशो मर्या अपेशसे । समुषद्भिरजायथाः
Making a sign for the unseeing, an adornment for the unadorned, you were born together with the dawns.
यदिन्द्राहं यथा त्वमीशीय वस्व एक इत्। स्तोता मे गोषखा स्यात्
O Indra, if I, like you, were the sole lord of wealth, may my praiser be a friend of cows.
शिक्षेयमस्मै दित्सेयं शचीपते मनीषिणे । यदहं गोपतिः स्याम्
I would teach and give to him, O lord of might, to the wise one, if I were the master of cattle.
धेनुष्ट इन्द्र सूनृता यजमानाय सुन्वते । गामश्वं पिप्युषी दुहे
Indra, the cow of sweet speech yields for the sacrificer who presses Soma; she gives milk, cattle, and horses.
न ते वर्तास्ति राधस इन्द्र देवो न मर्त्यः । यद्दित्ससि स्तुतो मघम्
There is no limit to your bounty, Indra, neither god nor mortal; when praised, you grant riches.
यज्ञ इन्द्रमवर्धयद्यद्भूमिं व्यवर्तयत्। चक्राण ओपशं दिवि
Sacrifice strengthened Indra, when he set the earth apart and fixed the supports in the sky.
वावृधानस्य ते वयं विश्वा धनानि जिग्युषः । ऊतिमिन्द्रा वृणीमहे
Of you, ever-increasing, we seek all the treasures of the conqueror; O Indra, we choose your aid.
व्यन्तरिक्षमतिरन् मदे सोमस्य रोचना । इन्द्रो यदभिनद्वलम्
He split the midspace, the mind in the intoxication of Soma, and the shining regions, when Indra struck the barrier.
उद्गा आजदङ्गिरोभ्य आविष्क्र्ण्वन् गुहा सतीः । अर्वाञ्चं नुनुदे वलम्
He drove forth the cows for the Angirases, revealing those who were hidden; he pushed the barrier forward.
इन्द्रेण रोचना दिवो दृल्हानि दृंहितानि च । स्थिराणि न पराणुदे
By Indra, the shining regions of the sky, both firm and established, remain unshaken.
अपामूर्मिर्मदन्न् इव स्तोम इन्द्राजिरायते । वि ते मदा अराजिषुः
Like the swelling of waters, the hymn rises to Indra with vigor; your exhilarations have spread forth.
त्वं हि स्तोमवर्धन इन्द्रास्युक्थवर्धनः । स्तोतॄणामुत भद्रकृत्
For you, Indra, are the increaser of hymns, the increaser of praises; you also bring good fortune to the singers.
इन्द्रमित्केशिना हरी सोमपेयाय वक्षतः । उप यज्ञं सुराधसम्
Indra's tawny steeds, adorned with manes, carry him to drink Soma; they approach the sacrifice, rich in gifts.
अपां फेनेन नमुचेः शिर इन्द्रोदवर्तयः । विश्वा यदजय स्पृधः
With the foam of waters, Indra struck off Namuci's head, when he conquered all the contests.
मायाभिरुत्सिसृप्सत इन्द्र द्यामारुरुक्षतः । अव दस्यूंरधूनुथाः
With your powers, Indra, you wished to ascend the sky; you shook down the Dasyus.
असुन्वामिन्द्र संसदं विषूचीं व्यनाशयः । सोमपा उत्तरो भवन्
Indra, you destroyed the assembly of those who do not press Soma, dispersing them; you became the supreme Soma-drinker.
