Protect the most invigorating, glorious, and wakeful Soma for our aid, O Indra, hundred-powered.
The powers, O hundred-powered Indra, that are yours among the five peoples—those, Indra, I choose for you.
Accept, O Indra, great fame and unconquerable glory; with your might may we cross over.
Come to us from near or far, O mighty one; wherever your realm is, O stone-armed Indra, come here from there.
Indra sits above great fear and does not waver; for he is steadfast among peoples.
May Indra show us mercy; may harm not reach us from behind; may good fortune be before us.
May Indra make us fearless from all directions; let him, the active among peoples, conquer our enemies.
We bring forth speech for the great, hymns for Indra in the house of the Sun; for even now, as seekers find treasure, so is praise fruitful among the generous, not the ill-praised.
Far is the horse, far, Indra, is the cow for you; far is the barley, O lord of wealth; O manly one, teach us from the highest, unconstrained, O friend, this we sing to you for your friends.
Like power itself, O Indra, doer of much, most glorious, your wealth is watched on every side; therefore, gather and bring it here, overcoming, do not let the singer’s wish fail because of you.
With these shining days, with these drops, dispelling ignorance, O Ashvins, with cows; with Indra, may we strike down the foe with these drops. May we, united and free from hatred, attain abundance.
Together with Indra, with wealth and abundance, may we attain; together with prizes, with many delights, with shining ones. Together with the divine, with surpassing strength, with heroic vigor, with foremost cows and horses, may we attain.
Those exhilarations have gladdened you; those powers of the bull, those Somas, O lord of the good, in the slayings of Vritra. When for the worshipper you struck down ten unassailable Vritras, for the one who offers, you cast down thousands.
Battle after battle you approach with boldness; city after city you have destroyed with your might. O Indra, with worthy friendship in distant places, you have cast down Namuci, the master of illusion.
You slew Karandja and Parṇaya with the most powerful weapon on Atithigva's path. You shattered a hundred cities of Vaṅgṛdas, you drove away the defenders, you cleared the way for Ṛjiśvan.
You approached those two, the people’s kings, with their ten brothers, with Suśravas, the renowned. Sixty thousand and ninety-nine, famed, you struck down with the wheel of your chariot, O subduer of the difficult.
You aided Suśravas with your protections, with your safeguards, O Indra, you helped Tūrvayāṇa. You granted life to Kutsa and Atithigva, to the great youthful king, to the one who does not fail in battle.
Those who, O Indra, are your friends, divine guardians, are most auspicious and harmonious. We will praise you; with you as our ally, may we, possessing heroic sons, hold a long life and a secure crossing.
To you, the bull, pressed among the pressed, I pour forth for drinking. Be satisfied, partake of the exhilaration.
Let not the foolish, the envious, harm you; let not the mockers oppress you. May you not be overcome by those who hate the sacred utterance.
Here, with the guardians of the cows, may they gladden you for great reward. Drink as a bull drinks from a lake.
Sing forth to the lord of the cows, to Indra, as is fitting, as one who knows. To the son of truth, the true lord.
The bays have been released, the ruddy ones, upon the sacred grass, where we assemble together.
For Indra, the cows have milked forth pure sweetness for the wielder of the bolt, when he discovered it in the hidden place.
Come to us, Indra, eager for the Soma, called to drink the Soma. Come with your two bays, O stone-splitter.
The priest has sat down, as the ritualist, spreading the sacred grass in order. The morning pressings have been yoked.
These hymns, bearers of prayer, are being composed; sit upon the sacred grass. Enjoy, O hero, the foremost offering.
Rejoice with us in the libations, O slayer of Vritra, in these praises, O Indra, lover of song, in the hymns.
The mothers of the Soma-drinker cherish the lord of strength, Indra, as mothers cherish a calf.
Delight yourself, indeed, in the pressed Soma, for greatness and for your own body; do not cast aside the worshipper.
