विशंविशं मघवा पर्यशायत जनानां धेना अवचाकशद्वृषा । यस्याह शक्रः सवनेषु रण्यति स तीव्रैः सोमैः सहते पृतन्यतः
The generous one has encompassed every people; the bull has called forth the cows among men. For whom, O mighty one, you delight in the offerings, he endures the fierce battles with strong Somas.
आपो न सिन्धुमभि यत्समक्षरन्त्सोमास इन्द्रं कुल्या इव ह्रदम् । वर्धन्ति विप्रा महो अस्य सादने यवं न वृष्टिर्दिव्येन दानुना
As waters rush together into a river, so the Somas flow to Indra, like channels to a lake. The inspired ones increase his greatness in the seat of might, as rain nourishes barley by the divine power.
वृषा न क्रुद्धः पतयद्रजःस्वा यो अर्यपत्नीरकृणोदिमा अपः । स सुन्वते मघवा जीरदानवेऽविन्दज्ज्योतिर्मनवे हविष्मते
Like a bull enraged, flying through the spaces, who drove away the wives of the foe—he, the generous one, found light for the worshipper who pours the Soma, for the one who offers with devotion.
उज्जायतां परशु ज्योतिषा सह भूया ऋतस्य सुदुघा पुराणवत्। वि रोचतामरुषो भानुना शुचिः स्वर्न शुक्रं शुशुचीत सत्पतिः
May the axe rise up, shining with light; may the ancient cow yield abundant milk of truth. Let the bright one shine forth with his red radiance; let the good lord display his pure brilliance.
गोभिष्टरेमामतिं दुरेवां यवेन क्षुधं पुरुहूत विश्वाम् । वयं राजभिः प्रथमा धनान्यस्माकेन वृजनेना जयेम
With cows drive away this hostile thought, O much-invoked one, with barley all hunger, with all wealth. May we, with our kings, win the first riches by our own force.
बृहस्पतिर्नः परि पातु पश्चादुतोत्तरस्मादधरादघायोः । इन्द्रः पुरस्तादुत मध्यतो नः सखा सखिभ्यः वरिवः कृणोतु
May Bṛhaspati protect us from behind, from above, and from below, from harm; may Indra guard us in front and in the middle; as a friend with friends, may he make a path for us.
बृहस्पते युवमिन्द्रश्च वस्वो दिव्यस्येशाथे उत पार्थिवस्य । धत्तं रयिं स्तुवते कीरये चिद्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Bṛhaspati, you and Indra are lords of the heavenly and earthly wealth; grant riches to the one who praises, even to the singer. Always protect us with blessings.
वयमु त्वा तदितर्था इन्द्र त्वायन्तः सखायः । कण्वा उक्थेभिर्जरन्ते
We, your friends, come to you, Indra, for that purpose; the Kaṇvas praise you with hymns.
न घेमन्यदा पपन वज्रिन्न् अपसो नविष्टौ । तवेदु स्तोमं चिकेत
Never, O wielder of the bolt, have the waters failed at the new moon; your praise alone they recognize.
इच्छन्ति देवाः सुन्वन्तं न स्वप्नाय स्पृहयन्ति । यन्ति प्रमादमतन्द्राः
The gods desire the one who presses Soma; they do not long for sleep, but go tirelessly to the feast.
वयमिन्द्र त्वायवोऽभि प्र णोनुमो वृषन् । विद्धि त्वस्य नो वसो
We, O Indra, your friends, fully praise you; know this, O giver of wealth, for us.
मा नो निदे च वक्तवेऽर्यो रन्धीरराव्ने । त्वे अपि क्रतुर्मम
Let not the enemy, whether near or speaking, overpower us in battle; may my resolve be in you.
त्वं वर्मासि सप्रथः पुरोयोधश्च वृत्रहन् । त्वया प्रति ब्रुवे युजा
You are the armor, broad and strong, the foremost fighter and slayer of obstacles; with you as ally I speak forth.
वार्त्रहत्याय शवसे पृतनाषाह्याय च । इन्द्र त्वा वर्तयामसि
For the slaying of obstacles and for overcoming armies, O Indra, we set you in motion.
अर्वाचीनं सु ते मन उत चक्षुः शतक्रतो । इन्द्र कृण्वन्तु वाघतः
May your mind and your vision, O hundred-powered Indra, be turned toward us by our songs.
नामानि ते शतक्रतो विश्वाभिर्गीर्भिरीमहे । इन्द्राभिमातिषाह्ये
We invoke all your names, O hundred-powered one, with every hymn, for the overcoming of foes, O Indra.
पुरुष्टुतस्य धामभिः शतेन महयामसि । इन्द्रस्य चर्षणीधृतः
With the hundred powers of the much-praised one, we magnify Indra, the upholder of peoples.
इन्द्रं वृत्राय हन्तवे पुरुहूतमुप ब्रुवे । भरेषु वाजसातये
To Indra, much-invoked, I call for the slaying of obstacles, for the winning of strength in battles.
वाजेषु सासहिर्भव त्वामीमहे शतक्रतो । इन्द्र वृत्राय हन्तवे
Be victorious in contests, O hundred-powered one; we call upon you, Indra, for the slaying of obstacles.
द्युम्नेषु पृतनाज्ये पृत्सुतूर्षु श्रवःसु च । इन्द्र साक्ष्वाभिमातिषु
In glory, in the winning of battles, in contests for fame, O Indra, be present in the midst of struggles.
20.20 शुष्मिन्तमं न ऊतये द्युम्निनं पाहि जागृविम् । इन्द्र सोमं शतक्रतो
Protect the most invigorating, glorious, and wakeful Soma for our aid, O Indra, hundred-powered.
इन्द्रियाणि शतक्रतो या ते जनेषु पञ्चसु । इन्द्र तानि त आ वृणे
The powers, O hundred-powered Indra, that are yours among the five peoples—those, Indra, I choose for you.
अगन्न् इन्द्र श्रवो बृहद्द्युम्नं दधिष्व दुष्टरम् । उत्ते शुष्मं तिरामसि
Accept, O Indra, great fame and unconquerable glory; with your might may we cross over.
अर्वावतो न आ गह्यथो शक्र परावतः । उ लोको यस्ते अद्रिव इन्द्रेह तत आ गहि
Come to us from near or far, O mighty one; wherever your realm is, O stone-armed Indra, come here from there.
इन्द्रो अङ्गं महद्भयमभि षदप चुच्यवत्। स हि स्थिरो विचर्षणिः
Indra sits above great fear and does not waver; for he is steadfast among peoples.
इन्द्रश्च मृलयाति नो न नः पश्चादघं नशत्। भद्रं भवाति नः पुरः
May Indra show us mercy; may harm not reach us from behind; may good fortune be before us.
इन्द्र आशाभ्यस्परि सर्वाभ्यो अभयं करत्। जेता शत्रून् विचर्षणिः
May Indra make us fearless from all directions; let him, the active among peoples, conquer our enemies.
न्यू षु वाचं प्र महे भरामहे गिर इन्द्राय सदने विवस्वतः । नू चिद्धि रत्नं ससतामिवाविदन् न दुष्टुतिर्द्रविणोदेषु शस्यते
We bring forth speech for the great, hymns for Indra in the house of the Sun; for even now, as seekers find treasure, so is praise fruitful among the generous, not the ill-praised.
दुरो अश्वस्य दुर इन्द्र गोरसि दुरो यवस्य वसुन इनस्पतिः । शिक्षानरः प्रदिवो अकामकर्शनः सखा सखिभ्यस्तमिदं गृणीमसि
Far is the horse, far, Indra, is the cow for you; far is the barley, O lord of wealth; O manly one, teach us from the highest, unconstrained, O friend, this we sing to you for your friends.
शचीव इन्द्र पुरुकृद्द्युमत्तम तवेदिदमभितश्चेकिते वसु । अतः संगृभ्याभिभूत आ भर मा त्वायतो जरितुः काममूनयीः
Like power itself, O Indra, doer of much, most glorious, your wealth is watched on every side; therefore, gather and bring it here, overcoming, do not let the singer’s wish fail because of you.
