ब्रह्म होता ब्रह्म यज्ञा ब्रह्मणा स्वरवो मिताः । अध्वर्युर्ब्रह्मणो जातो ब्रह्मणोऽन्तर्हितं हविः
Brahman is the Hotṛ; Brahman is the sacrifice; by Brahman the chants are measured. The Adhvaryu is born from Brahman; the oblation is hidden within Brahman.
ब्रह्म स्रुचो घृतवतीर्ब्रह्मणा वेदिरुद्धिता । ब्रह्म यज्ञस्य तत्त्वं च ऋत्विजो ये हविष्कृतः । शमिताय स्वाहा
Brahman are the ladles filled with ghee; by Brahman the altar is established. Brahman is the essence of the sacrifice, and the officiants who prepare the oblation. To the pacifier, svāhā.
अंहोमुचे प्र भरे मनीषामा सुत्राव्णे सुमतिमावृणानः । इममिन्द्र प्रति हव्यं गृभाय सत्याः सन्तु यजमानस्य कामाः
O remover of sin, I bring forth my thought; choosing good favor for the well-knotted one. O Indra, accept this oblation; may the desires of the sacrificer be fulfilled.
अंहोमुचं व्र्षभं यज्ञियानां विराजन्तं प्रथममध्वराणम् । अपां नपातमश्विना हुवे धिय इन्द्रियेण त इन्द्रियं दत्तमोजः
To the remover of sin, the bull among those fit for sacrifice, shining forth as the first of the rituals— to the offspring of the waters, O Aśvins, I call with insight; grant me your strength and power.
19.43 यत्र ब्रह्मविदो यान्ति दीक्षया तपसा सह । अग्निर्मा तत्र नयत्वग्निर्मेधा दधातु मे । अग्नये स्वाहा

19.44 आयुषोऽसि प्रतरणं विप्रं भेषजमुच्यसे । तदाञ्जन त्वं शंताते शमापो अभयं कृतम्
You are the crossing over of life; you are called the sage's remedy. O ointment, you are peace-bringing; bring peace to the waters, make us fearless.
यो हरिमा जायान्योऽङ्गभेदो विसल्पकः । सर्वं ते यक्ष्ममङ्गेभ्यो बहिर्निर्हन्त्वाञ्जनम्
Whatever jaundice, whatever limb-breaking, whatever spreading disease— let this ointment drive all that affliction out from your limbs.
आञ्जनं पृथिव्यां जातं भद्रं पुरुषजीवनम् । कृणोत्वप्रमायुकं रथजूतिमनागसम्
Ointment born from the earth, auspicious, sustaining human life— make for us a long life, skill in charioteering, and freedom from harm.
प्राण प्राणं त्रायस्वासो असवे मृड । निर्ऋते निर्ऋत्या नः पाशेभ्यो मुञ्च
O breath, protect breath; be gracious to the living. O Nirṛti, free us from the bonds of destruction.
सिन्धोर्गर्भोऽसि विद्युतां पुष्पम् । वातः प्राणः सूर्यश्चक्षुर्दिवस्पयः
You are the embryo of the river, the blossom of lightnings. Wind is breath, the sun is sight, the rain of heaven is nourishment.
देवाञ्जन त्रैककुद परि मा पाहि विश्वतः । न त्वा तरन्त्योषधयो बाह्याः पर्वतीया उत
Divine ointment, three-crested, protect me on all sides. Let not the external herbs, nor those of the mountains, surpass you.
वीदं मध्यमवासृपद्रक्षोहामीवचातनः । अमीवाः सर्वाश्चातयन् नाशयदभिभा इतः
May this ointment drive away disease from the middle, from the sides, and from above; may it expel all illnesses and destroy them completely from here.
बह्विदं राजन् वरुणानृतमाह पूरुषः । तस्मात्सहस्रवीर्य मुञ्च नः पर्यंहसः
Many times, O King Varuṇa, a man speaks falsehood; therefore, O thousand-powered one, release us from every misfortune.
यदापो अघ्न्या इति वरुणेति यदूचिम । तस्मात्सहस्रवीर्य मुञ्च नः पर्यंहसः
Whatever we have said, 'Waters are not to be harmed,' and 'O Varuṇa,' for that reason, O thousand-powered one, release us from every misfortune.
मित्रश्च त्वा वरुणश्चानुप्रेयतुराञ्जन । तौ त्वानुगत्य दूरं भोगाय पुनरोहतुः
May Mitra and Varuṇa follow you, O ointment; having followed you far, may they return again for enjoyment.
19.45 ऋणादृणमिव सं नय कृत्यां कृत्याकृतो गृहम् । चक्षुर्मन्त्रस्य दुर्हार्दः पृष्टीरपि शृणाञ्जन
Lead away the harmful spell as debt repays debt, O ointment; whether the spell is performed or not, let it leave the house; be the eye of the charm, O remover of evil, listen to us.
यदस्मासु दुष्वप्न्यं यद्गोषु यच्च नो गृहे । अनामगस्तं च दुर्हार्दः प्रियः प्रति मुञ्चताम्
Whatever evil dream is among us, whatever is among the cows, and whatever is in our house—let the remover of evil, the beloved one, release us from it, unharmed.
अपामूर्ज ओजसो वावृधानमग्नेर्जातमधि जातवेदसः । चतुर्वीरं पर्वतीयं यदाञ्जनं दिशः प्रदिशः करदिच्छिवास्ते
The ointment, grown from the strength and vigor of the waters, born from Agni, from Jātavedas—may the fourfold, mountain-born ointment, which the directions and regions bear, be auspicious for you.
चतुर्वीरं बध्यत आञ्जनं ते सर्वा दिशो अभयास्ते भवन्तु । ध्रुवस्तिष्ठासि सवितेव चार्य इमा विशो अभि हरन्तु ते बलिम्
The fourfold ointment is tied for you; may all the directions be fearless for you; stand firm as the sun, O worthy one; may these peoples bring you tribute.
आक्ष्वैकं मणिमेकं कृणुष्व स्नाह्येकेना पिबैकमेषाम् । चतुर्वीरं नैर्ऋतेभ्यश्चतुर्भ्यो ग्राह्या बन्धेभ्यः परि पात्वस्मान्
Wear one gem, make one, bathe with one, drink with one; may the fourfold ointment protect us from the bonds of the four Nirṛtis.
अग्निर्माग्निनावतु प्राणायापानायायुषे वर्चस ओजसे । तेजसे स्वस्तये सुभूतये स्वाहा
May Agni protect me with his fiery power—for breath, for inspiration and expiration, for life, for brilliance, for vigor, for energy, for well-being, for prosperity—svāhā.
इन्द्रो मेन्द्रियेणावतु प्राणायापानायायुषे वर्चस ओजसे । तेजसे स्वस्तये सुभूतये स्वाहा
May Indra protect me with his strength—for breath, for inspiration and expiration, for life, for brilliance, for vigor, for energy, for well-being, for prosperity—svāhā.
