दर्भेण त्वं कृणवद्वीर्याणि दर्भं बिभ्रदात्मना मा व्यथिष्ठाः । अतिष्ठाय वर्चसाधान्यान्त्सूर्य इवा भाहि प्रदिशश्चतस्रः
With darbha you perform heroic deeds; bearing darbha, do not be afraid; surpassing others in brilliance, shine in all four directions like the sun.
जाङ्गिडोऽसि जङ्गिडो रक्षितासि जङ्गिडः । द्विपाच्चतुष्पादस्माकं सर्वं रक्षतु जङ्गिडः
You are Jangida, Jangida the protector; let Jangida protect all that is ours, two-footed and four-footed.
या गृत्स्यस्त्रिपञ्चाशीः शतं कृत्याकृतश्च ये । सर्वान् विनक्तु तेजसोऽरसां जङ्गिडस्करत्
Whatever is greedy, fifty-three in number, a hundred, whether done or not done—let Jangida remove all these, the essence of energy.
अरसं कृत्रिमं नादमरसाः सप्त विस्रसः । अपेतो जङ्गिडामतिमिषुमस्तेव शातय
The essence, the artificial sound, the seven essences—let Jangida drive away your poison, your missile, your evil—destroy them thus.
कृत्यादूषण एवायमथो अरातिदूषणः । अथो सहस्वाञ्जङ्गिडः प्र न आयूंषि तारिषत्
This indeed is a destroyer of witchcraft, and also a destroyer of hostility; and this powerful Jaṅgiḍa shall carry us safely across the spans of life.
स जङ्गिडस्य महिमा परि णः पातु विश्वतः । विष्कन्धं येन सासह संस्कन्धमोज ओजसा
May the greatness of Jaṅgiḍa protect us on all sides; with which he overcame the spreading and the gathering, with strength and vigor.
त्रिष्ट्वा देवा अजनयन् निष्ठितं भूम्यामधि । तमु त्वाङ्गिरा इति ब्राह्मणाः पूर्व्या विदुः
Having thrice pierced, the gods created it, fixed upon the earth; the ancient Brāhmaṇas knew it as 'Aṅgirā.'
न त्वा पूर्वा ओषधयो न त्वा तरन्ति या नवाः । विबाध उग्रो जङ्गिडः परिपाणः सुमङ्गलः
Neither the earlier herbs nor the new ones surpass you; the fierce Jaṅgiḍa repels, is a protector, and most auspicious.
अथोपदान भगवो जाङ्गिडामितवीर्य । पुरा त उग्रा ग्रसत उपेन्द्रो वीर्यं ददौ
Now, O Jaṅgiḍa of mighty power, be gracious; once, the fierce ones devoured, and Upendra gave strength.
उग्र इत्ते वनस्पत इन्द्र ओज्मानमा दधौ । अमीवाः सर्वाश्चातयं जहि रक्षांस्योषधे
Fierce are you, O plant; Indra placed vigor in you; drive away all diseases, destroy the demons, O herb.
आशरीकं विशरीकं बलासं पृष्ट्यामयम् । तक्मानं विश्वशारदमरसां जङ्गिडस्करत्
Jaṅgiḍa removes wasting, dispersing, consumption, pain of the back, fever of every season, and all poison.
इन्द्रस्य नाम गृह्णन्त ऋषयो जङ्गिडं ददुः । देवा यं चक्रुर्भेषजमग्रे विष्कन्धदूषणम्
Reciting Indra's name, the seers gave Jaṅgiḍa, which the gods made as the foremost remedy against the destroyer of strength.
स नो रक्षतु जङ्गिडो धनपालो धनेव । देवा यं चक्रुर्ब्राह्मणाः परिपाणमरातिहम्
May Jaṅgiḍa protect us, guardian of wealth as if over treasure; which the gods and Brāhmaṇas made as a protector and slayer of enemies.
दुर्हार्दः संघोरं चक्षुः पापकृत्वानमागमम् । तांस्त्वं सहस्रचक्षो प्रतीबोधेन नाशय परिपाणोऽसि जङ्गिडः
That evil-hearted, dreadful gaze, the coming of the doer of harm—may you, O thousand-eyed protector Jaṅgiḍa, destroy it with awareness.
परि मा दिवः परि मा पृथिव्याः पर्यन्तरिक्षात्परि मा वीरुद्भ्यः । परि मा भूतात्परि मोत भव्याद्दिशोदिशो जङ्गिडः पात्वस्मान्
From the sky, from the earth, from the midspace, from the plants, from beings, and from what is to be—may Jaṅgiḍa protect us from every direction.
य ऋष्णवो देवकृता य उतो ववृतेऽन्यः । सर्वांस्तान् विश्वभेषजोऽरसां जङ्गिडस्करत्
Whatever remedies made by the gods, and whatever other ones have arisen—all those universal medicines, Jaṅgiḍa makes free from poison.
शतवारो अनीनशद्यक्ष्मान् रक्षांसि तेजसा । आरोहन् वर्चसा सह मणिर्दुर्णामचातनः
A hundredfold, ever unweakened, with energy you repel consumption and demons; ascending with radiance, the jewel drives away all misfortune.
शृङ्गाभ्यां रक्षो नुदते मूलेन यातुधान्यः । मध्येन यक्ष्मं बाधते नैनं पाप्माति तत्रति
With its horns it drives away demons, with its root it repels sorcerers; with its middle it overcomes consumption—no harm approaches it there.
ये यक्ष्मासो अर्भका महान्तो ये च शब्दिनः । सर्वां दुर्णामहा मणिः शतवारो अनीनशत्
All consumptions, whether small or great, and those that sound—this jewel, a hundredfold, ever unweakened, drives away all misfortune.
शतं वीरान् अजनयच्छतं यक्ष्मान् अपावपत्। दुर्णाम्नः सर्वान् हत्वाव रक्षांसि धूनुते
It generated a hundred heroes, drove away a hundred consumptions; having slain all misfortune, it shakes off the demons.
हिरण्यशृङ्ग ऋषभः शातवारो अयं मणिः । दुर्णाम्नः सर्वांस्तृध्वाव रक्षांस्यक्रमीत्
This jewel, the bull with golden horns, a hundredfold, having cut off all misfortune, has overcome the demons.
शतमहं दुर्णाम्नीनां गन्धर्वाप्सरसां शतम् । शतं शश्वन्वतीनां शतवारेण वारये
A hundred of the misfortunes of Gandharvas and Apsarases, a hundred of the ever-returning ones, let me ward off with the hundredfold.
इदं वर्चो अग्निना दत्तमागन् भर्गो यशः सह ओजो वयो बलम् । त्रयस्त्रिंशद्यानि च वीर्याणि तान्यग्निः प्र ददातु मे
This brilliance, given by Agni, has come—radiance, fame, along with vigor, vitality, and strength. May Agni grant me these thirty-three powers.
वर्च आ धेहि मे तन्वां सह ओजो वयो बलम् । इन्द्रियाय त्वा कर्मणे वीर्याय प्रति गृह्णामि शतशारदाय
Instill brilliance in my body, along with vigor, vitality, and strength. I accept you for sense, for action, for power, for a life of a hundred autumns.
ऊर्जे त्वा बलाय त्वौजसे सहसे त्वा । अभिभूयाय त्वा राष्ट्रभृत्याय पर्यूहामि शतशारदाय
For nourishment, for strength, for vigor, for endurance, for overcoming, for ruling the people, I invoke you for a life of a hundred autumns.
ऋतुभ्यष्ट्वार्तवेभ्यो माद्भ्यः संवत्सरेभ्यः । धात्रे विधात्रे समृधे भूतस्य पतये यजे
To the seasons, to the seasonal divisions, to the months, to the years, to the supporter, the arranger, the prosperous, to the lord of beings, I offer.
न तं यक्ष्मा अरुन्धते नैनं शपथो अश्नुते । यं भेषजस्य गुल्गुलोः सुरभिर्गन्धो अश्नुते
Disease does not overcome him, nor does a curse reach him, who partakes of the fragrant scent of the medicinal guggul.
विष्वञ्चस्तस्माद्यक्ष्मा मृगा अश्वा इवेरते । यद्गुल्गुलु सैन्धवं यद्वाप्यसि समुद्रियम्
From him, diseases flee in all directions, as deer and horses run away, when there is guggul, rock salt, or sea salt.
उभयोरग्रभं नामास्मा अरिष्टतातये
The name 'Holder of both ends' is for him, for the purpose of safety.
19.39 ऐतु देवस्त्रायमाणः कुष्ठो हिमवतस्परि । तक्मानं सर्वं नाशय सर्वाश्च यातुधान्यः
Let the divine, protective kuṣṭha come from the Himalaya; destroy all fever and all sorcerers.
