एकं तदेषाममृतत्वमित्याहुतिरेव
That alone is their immortality—namely, the offering.
तस्य व्रात्यस्य
Of that Vrātya—
यदस्य दक्षिणमक्ष्यसौ स आदित्यो यदस्य सव्यमक्ष्यसौ स चन्द्रमाः
His right eye is the sun; his left eye is the moon.
योऽस्य दक्षिणः कर्णोऽयं सो अग्निर्योऽस्य सव्यः कर्णोऽयं स पवमानः
His right ear is Agni; his left ear is Pavamāna.
अहोरात्रे नासिके दितिश्चादितिश्च शीर्षकपाले संवत्सरः शिरः
Day and night are his nostrils; Diti and Aditi are his skull-plates; the year is his head.
अह्ना प्रत्यङ्व्रात्यो रात्र्या प्राङ्नमो व्रात्याय
By day he faces west, the Vrātya; by night he faces east. Homage to the Vrātya.
अतिसृष्टो अपां वृषभोऽतिसृष्टा अग्नयो दिव्याः
Released is the bull of the waters; released are the divine fires.
रुजन् परिरुजन् मृणन् प्रमृणन्
Breaking, surrounding, crushing, and utterly destroying.
म्रोको मनोहा खनो निर्दाह आत्मदूषिस्तनूदूषिः
The destroyer, the mind-stealer, the digger, the burner, the self-corrupting, the body-corrupting.
इदं तमति सृजामि तं माभ्यवनिक्षि
This darkness I send forth; may it not envelop me.
तेन तमभ्यतिसृजामो योऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं वयं द्विष्मः
With this darkness we send forth against him who hates us, whom we hate.
अपामग्रमसि समुद्रं वोऽभ्यवसृजामि
I am at the edge of the waters; I send you forth to the ocean.
योऽप्स्वग्निरति तं सृजामि म्रोकं खनिं तनूदूषिम्
Whoever has fire in the waters, I send forth the destroyer, the digger, the body-corruptor against him.
यो व आपोऽग्निराविवेश स एष यद्वो घोरं तदेतत्
He who is fire entered into the waters, this is he; whatever is dreadful among you, that is this.
इन्द्रस्य व इन्द्रियेणाभि षिञ्चेत्
Let him sprinkle with the power of Indra.
अरिप्रा आपो अप रिप्रमस्मत्
Waters, drive away the enemy from us.
प्रास्मदेनो वहन्तु प्र दुष्वप्न्यं वहन्तु
Let them carry away our guilt; let them carry away evil dreams.
शिवेन मा चक्षुषा पश्यतापः शिवया तन्वोप स्पृशत त्वचं मे
With a benevolent eye, look upon me, waters; with a benevolent body, touch my skin.
शिवान् अग्नीन् अप्सुषदो हवामहे मयि क्षत्रं वर्च आ धत्त देवीः
We invoke the benevolent fires dwelling in the waters; may the goddesses grant me strength and brilliance.
निर्दुरर्मण्य ऊर्जा मधुमती वाक्
Speech, free from harm, full of vigor and sweetness.
मधुमती स्थ मधुमतीं वाचमुदेयम्
May you be sweet; may I utter sweet speech.
उपहूतो मे गोपाः उपहूतो गोपीथः
The guardian is summoned for me; the protector is summoned.
सुश्रुतौ कर्णौ भद्रश्रुतौ कर्णौ भद्रं श्लोकं श्रूयासम्
May my ears be well-hearing, may my ears hear auspicious words; may I hear auspicious verses.
सुश्रुतिश्च मोपश्रुतिश्च मा हासिष्टां सौपर्णं चक्षुरजस्रं ज्योतिः
May good hearing and attentive hearing not abandon me; may the eagle's eye, ever shining, remain.
ऋषीणां प्रस्तरोऽसि नमोऽस्तु दैवाय प्रस्तराय
You are the altar of the sages; homage to the divine altar.
मूर्धाहं रयीणां मूर्धा समानानां भूयासम्
May I be the head of riches, the head of those who are equal.
रुजश्च मा वेनश्च मा हासिष्टां मूर्धा च मा विधर्मा च मा हासिष्टाम्
Let injury not befall me, let harm not befall me; let my head and my law not be harmed.
उर्वश्च मा चमसश्च मा हासिष्टां धर्ता च मा धरुणश्च मा हासिष्टाम्
Let the wide one and the ladle not be lost to me; let the supporter and the support not be lost to me.
विमोकश्च मार्द्रपविश्च मा हासिष्टामार्द्रदानुश्च मा मातरिश्वा च मा हासिष्टाम्
Let release and the moist stone not be lost to me; let the moist giver and Mātariśvan not be lost to me.
बृहस्पतिर्म आत्मा नृमणा नाम हृद्यः
Bṛhaspati is my soul, renowned among men, delightful to the heart.
