तां पूषं छिवतमामेरयस्व यस्यां बीजं मनुष्या वपन्ति । या न ऊरू उशती विश्रयाति यस्यामुशन्तः प्रहरेम शेपः
Lead her, Pūṣan, to the most auspicious place, in which men sow their seed. She whose thighs do not grow weak, who does not loosen—may we cast off the fetter in her who is strong.
आ रोहोरुमुप धत्स्व हस्तं परि ष्वजस्व जायां सुमनस्यमानः । प्रजां कृण्वाथामिह मोदमानौ दीर्घं वामायुः सविता कृणोतु
Take her hand, place it upon your thigh; embrace your wife with a joyful heart. May you two create offspring here, rejoicing; may Savitṛ grant you long life.
आ वां प्रजां जनयतु प्रजापतिरहोरात्राभ्यां समनक्त्वर्यमा । अदुर्मङ्गली पतिलोकमा विशेमं शं नो भव द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे
May Prajāpati generate offspring for you two; may day and night unite you with Aryaman. May we enter the world of the husband without misfortune; bring us welfare among bipeds and quadrupeds.
{१०} देवैर्दत्तं मनुना साकमेतद्वाधूयं वासो वध्वश्च वस्त्रम् । यो ब्रह्मणे चिकितुषे ददाति स इद्रक्षांसि तल्पानि हन्ति
This bridal garment, given by the gods together with Manu, is the bride's robe and the bridegroom's garment. Whoever gives it to a learned Brahmin, he drives away demons and misfortune from the bed.
यं मे दत्तो ब्रह्मभागं वधूयोर्वाधूयं वासो वध्वश्च वस्त्रम् । युवं ब्रह्मणेऽनुमन्यमानौ बृहस्पते साकमिन्द्रश्च दत्तम्
The share of the Brahmin given to me, the bridal garment, the bride's robe and garment—may you two, consenting, give it to the Brahmin, together with Bṛhaspati and Indra.
स्योनाद्योनेरधि बध्यमानौ हसामुदौ महसा मोदमानौ । सुगू सुपुत्रौ सुगृहौ तराथो जीवावुषसो विभातीः
Bound upon the pleasant marriage-bed, laughing, together, rejoicing in greatness—may you two be well-protected, good children, good householders; may you live to see the dawns.
नवं वसानः सुरभिः सुवासा उदागां जीव उषसो विभातीः । आण्डात्पतत्रीवामुक्षि विश्वस्मादेनसस्परि
Clad in new garments, fragrant, well-dressed, rise up alive to see the dawns. As a bird from the egg, may you be released from all sin.
शुम्भनी द्यावापृथिवी अन्तिसुम्ने महिव्रते । आपः सप्त सुस्रुवुर्देवीस्ता नो मुञ्चन्त्वंहसः
Heaven and earth, adorned, of kindly thought, of great vow; the seven divine waters have flowed forth—may they release us from evil.
सूर्यायै देवेभ्यो मित्राय वरुणाय च । ये भूतस्य प्रचेतसस्तेभ्य इदमकरं नमः
To Sūryā, to the gods, to Mitra and Varuṇa; to those who are the wise of being, to them I have made this homage.
य ऋते चिदभिश्रिषः पुरा जत्रुभ्य आतृदः । संधाता संधिं मघवा पुरूवसुर्निष्कर्ता विह्रुतं पुनः
He who, even without a ritual, once gave support to the limbs—he is the joiner, the binder, Maghavan the many-gifted, who restores what was lost.
अपास्मत्तम उच्छतु नीलं पिशङ्गमुत लोहितं यत्। निर्दहनी या पृषातक्यस्मिन् तां स्थाणावध्या सजामि
Let the darkness depart from us—black, tawny, and red. Whatever burning affliction is here, I fix it upon the post.
यावतीः कृत्या उपवासने यावन्तो राज्ञो वरुणस्य पाशाः । व्यृद्धयो या असमृद्धयो या अस्मिन् ता स्थाणावधि सादयामि
As many harmful acts as are at the wedding-seat, as many snares of King Varuṇa, as many failures and non-successes as are here, I fix them upon the post.
या मे प्रियतमा तनूः सा मे बिभाय वाससः । तस्याग्रे त्वं वनस्पते नीविं कृणुष्व मा वयं रिषाम
That body of mine which is most beloved, let it be adorned with garments; O tree, prepare the lower garment in front of her, so that we may not suffer harm.
{११} ये अन्ता यावतीः सिचो य ओतवो ये च तन्तवः । वासो यत्पत्नीभिरुतं तन् न स्योनमुप स्पृशात्
Whatever ends, whatever threads, whatever warp and weft, and whatever yarns there are—may the garment woven by wives touch her with auspiciousness.
उशतीः कन्यला इमाः पितृलोकात्पतिं यतीः । अव दीक्षामसृक्षत स्वाहा
These shining maidens, departing from the world of the fathers to their husband, have released the consecration—svāhā.
बृहस्पतिनावसृष्टां विश्वे देवा अधारयन् । वर्चो गोषु प्रविष्टं यत्तेनेमां सं सृजामसि
Created by Bṛhaspati, sustained by all the gods, the radiance that entered the cows—by that we fashion her.

यदीमे केशिनो जना गृहे ते समनर्तिषू रोदेन कृण्वन्तोऽघम् । अग्निष्ट्वा तस्मादेनसः सविता च प्र मुञ्चताम्
If these long-haired people in the house, in their agitation, cause harm by weeping, may Agni and Savitṛ release you from that sin.
यदीयं दुहिता तव विकेश्यरुदद्गृहे रोदेन कृण्वत्यघम् । अग्निष्ट्वा तस्मादेनसः सविता च प्र मुञ्चताम्
If your daughter, with disheveled hair, weeps in the house and causes harm by her crying, may Agni and Savitṛ release you from that sin.
{१२} यज्जामयो यद्युवतयो गृहे ते समनर्तिषू रोदेन कृण्वतीरघम् । अग्निष्ट्वा तस्मादेनसः सविता च प्र मुञ्चताम्
If the sisters or young women in the house, in their agitation, cause harm by weeping, may Agni and Savitṛ release you from that sin.
यत्ते प्रजायां पशुषु यद्वा गृहेषु निष्ठितमघकृद्भिरघं कृतम् । अग्निष्ट्वा तस्मादेनसः सविता च प्र मुञ्चताम्
Whatever harm has been done by evildoers in your progeny, in your cattle, or in your house, may Agni and Savitṛ release you from that sin.
इयं नार्युप ब्रूते पूल्यान्यावपन्तिका । दीर्घायुरस्तु मे पतिर्जीवाति शरदः शतम्
This woman speaks forth, she who is about to depart from her father's house: May my husband be long-lived, may he live a hundred autumns.
इहेमाविन्द्र सं नुद चक्रवाकेव दंपती । प्रजयैनौ स्वस्तकौ विश्वमायुर्व्यश्नुताम्
Here, O Indra, drive away discord between the couple, as with the chakravāka birds; may they, blessed with offspring, enjoy all life.
यदासन्द्यामुपधाने यद्वोपवासने कृतम् । विवाहे कृत्यां यां चक्रुरास्नाने तां नि दध्मसि
Whatever wrong, whatever impurity was committed on the bedding or seat, whatever ritual error was made at the wedding or bath, that we lay aside.
यद्दुष्कृतं यच्छमलं विवाहे वहतौ च यत्। तत्संभलस्य कम्बले मृज्महे दुरितं वयम्
Whatever misdeed, whatever stain, at the wedding or in the carrying away, that we cleanse on the blanket of Saṃbhala; we remove the evil.
संभले मलं सादयित्वा कम्बले दुरितं वयम् । अभूम यज्ञियाः शुद्धाः प्र ण आयूंषि तारिषत्
Having removed the stain on the blanket of Saṃbhala, having cleansed the evil, we have become fit for sacrifice, pure; may we cross over to long life.
