अचिक्रदत्स्वपा इह भुवदग्ने व्यचस्व रोदसी उरूची । युञ्जन्तु त्वा मरुतो विश्ववेदस आमुं नय नमसा रातहव्यम्
Let the sleeper awaken here, O Agni, shine widely across the spacious heavens; let the Maruts, all-knowing, harness you, lead you forth with reverence to the offering.
दूरे चित्सन्तमरुषास इन्द्रमा च्यावयन्तु सख्याय विप्रम् । यद्गायत्रीं बृहतीमर्कमस्मै सौत्रामण्या दधृषन्त देवाः
Even from afar, let the ruddy ones stir Indra, let the sage move for friendship; when the gods established the Gāyatrī, Bṛhatī, and Sāutrāmaṇī hymns for him.
अद्भ्यस्त्वा राज वरुणो ह्वयतु सोमस्त्वा ह्वयतु पर्वतेभ्यः । इन्द्रस्त्वा ह्वयतु विड्भ्य आभ्यः श्येनो भूत्वा विश आ पतेमाः
Let King Varuṇa summon you from the waters, let Soma call you from the mountains; let Indra summon you from the settlements, and as a falcon, may we descend among the people.
{४} श्येनो हव्यं नयत्वा परस्मादन्यक्षेत्रे अपरुद्धं चरन्तम् । अश्विना पन्थां कृणुतां सुगं त इमं सजाता अभिसंविशध्वम्
Let the falcon carry the offering from another field, from afar, unobstructed, moving; let the Aśvins make the path easy, and let those of the same lineage enter together.
{५} ह्वयन्तु त्वा प्रतिजनाः प्रति मित्रा अवृषत । इन्द्राग्नी विश्वे देवास्ते विशि क्षेममदीधरन्
Let all peoples summon you, let friends call you forth; Indra, Agni, and all the gods have established safety for you among the people.
{६} यस्ते हवं विवदत्सजातो यश्च निष्ट्यः । अपाञ्चमिन्द्र तं कृत्वाथेममिहाव गमय
Whoever is born to dispute your call, and whoever is hostile, O Indra, make him powerless and bring him here.
आ त्वा गन् राष्ट्रं सह वर्चसोदिहि प्राङ्विशां पतिरेकराट्त्वं वि राज । सर्वास्त्वा राजन् प्रदिशो ह्वयन्तूपसद्यो नमस्यो भवेह
Come, take up the kingdom with strength and brilliance; rule as the sole lord of the people, reign supreme; let all directions summon you, O king, become worthy of reverence here.
त्वां विशो वृणतां राज्याय त्वामिमाः प्रदिशः पञ्च देवीः । वर्ष्मन् राष्ट्रस्य ककुदि श्रयस्व ततो न उग्रो वि भजा वसूनि
Let the peoples choose you for kingship, let these five divine regions select you; settle on the summit of the kingdom, then distribute wealth without harshness.
अच्छ त्वा यन्तु हविनः सजाता अग्निर्दूतो अजिरः सं चरातै । जायाः पुत्राः सुमनसो भवन्तु बहुं बलिं प्रति पश्यासा उग्रः
May the offerings, together with their kin, approach you; may Agni, the swift messenger, move together with them. May your wife and children be of good mind; may you, O mighty one, see abundant tribute brought before you.
अश्विना त्वाग्रे मित्रावरुणोभा विश्वे देवा मरुतस्त्वा ह्वयन्तु । अधा मनो वसुदेयाय कृणुष्व ततो न उग्रो वि भजा वसूनि
May the Aśvins, Mitra, Varuṇa, both, all the gods, and the Maruts call you first. Therefore, set your mind on acquiring wealth; then, O mighty one, distribute the riches among us.
आ प्र द्रव परमस्याः परावतः शिवे ते द्यावापृथिवी उभे स्ताम् । तदयं राजा वरुणस्तथाह स त्वायमह्वत्स उपेदमेहि
Run forth from the farthest distance; may both Heaven and Earth be auspicious for you. Thus says King Varuṇa; he has called you—come here to him.
इन्द्रेन्द्र मनुष्याः परेहि सं ह्यज्ञास्था वरुणैः संविदानः । स त्वायमह्वत्स्वे सधस्थे स देवान् यक्षत्स उ कल्पयद्विशः
Go forth, O Indra, among men; indeed, you have stood together with the wise, with Varuṇa. He has called you to his assembly; he has worshipped the gods, he has arranged the peoples.
पथ्या रेवतीर्बहुधा विरूपाः सर्वाः संगत्य वरीयस्ते अक्रन् । तास्त्वा सर्वाः संविदाना ह्वयन्तु दशमीमुग्रः सुमना वशेह
The prosperous, many-formed, and varied paths, all coming together, have made you great. May all of them, united, call you; may the mighty one, well-disposed, be under your control.
आयमगन् पर्णमणिर्बली बलेन प्रमृणन्त्सपत्नान् । ओजो देवानां पय ओषधीनां वर्चसा मा जिन्वन्त्वप्रयावन्
The leaf-jewel has come, powerful with strength, striking down rivals with might. May the vigor of the gods, the milk of the plants, and their brilliance strengthen me, unfailing.
मयि क्षत्रं पर्णमणे मयि धारयताद्रयिम् । अहं राष्ट्रस्याभीवर्गे निजो भूयासमुत्तमः
May sovereignty be in me, O leaf-jewel; may you grant me steadfastness. May I, in the gathering of the people, become the most eminent and supreme.
यं निदधुर्वनस्पतौ गुह्यं देवाः प्रियं मणिम् । तमस्मभ्यं सहायुषा देवा ददतु भर्तवे
The jewel which the gods placed, hidden, in the tree, dear to them—may the gods give it to us, with long life, to possess.
सोमस्य पर्णः सह उग्रमागन्न् इन्द्रेण दत्तो वरुणेन शिष्टः । तं प्रियासं बहु रोचमानो दीर्घायुत्वाय शतशारदाय
The leaf of Soma, strong and mighty, has come, given by Indra, preserved by Varuṇa. May that beloved one, shining greatly, be for long life, for a hundred autumns.
आ मारुक्षत्पर्णमणिर्मह्या अरिष्टतातये । यथाहमुत्तरोऽसान्यर्यम्ण उत संविदः
Let the leaf-jewel protect me from harm, from my enemy's attack. As I am superior to others by Aryaman's favor and by agreement.
ये धीवानो रथकाराः कर्मारा ये मनीषिणः । उपस्तीन् पर्ण मह्यं त्वं सर्वान् कृण्वभितो जनान्
Those who are skilled—chariot-makers, smiths, and thinkers—may you, O leaf, make all people subject to me, on every side.
ये राजानो राजकृतः सूता ग्रामण्यश्च ये । उपस्तीन् पर्ण मह्यं त्वं सर्वान् कृण्वभितो जनान्
Those kings, those appointed by kings, charioteers, and leaders of villages—may you, O leaf, make all people subject to me, on every side.
पर्णोऽसि तनूपानः सयोनिर्वीरो वीरेण मया । संवत्सरस्य तेजसा तेन बध्नामि त्वा मणे
You are the leaf, a body-protector, united with a hero, heroic with me. With the energy of the year, with that I bind you, O jewel.
पुमान् पुंसः परिजातोऽश्वत्थः खदिरादधि । स हन्तु शत्रून् मामकान् यान् अहं द्वेष्मि ये च माम्
The male offspring of the male, the Aśvattha tree, stands above the Khadira. May it strike down my enemies—those whom I hate and those who hate me.
तान् अश्वत्थ निः शृणीहि शत्रून् वैबाधदोधतः । इन्द्रेण वृत्रघ्ना मेदी मित्रेण वरुणेन च
O Aśvattha, cast out those enemies, drive them away far off; with Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, with Mitra, and with Varuṇa.
यथाश्वत्थ निरभनोऽन्तर्महत्यर्णवे । एवा तान्त्सर्वान् निर्भङ्ग्धि यान् अहं द्वेष्मि ये च माम्
Just as the Aśvattha tree has been cast down into the deep, vast ocean, so may you cast down all those whom I hate and those who hate me.
यः सहमानश्चरसि सासहान इव ऋषभः । तेनाश्वत्थ त्वया वयं सपत्नान्त्सहिषीमहि
You who endure, moving about, like a bull among those who endure—by you, O Aśvattha, may we overcome our rivals.
सिनात्वेनान् निर्ऋतिर्मृत्योः पाशैरमोक्यैः । अश्वत्थ शत्रून् मामकान् यान् अहं द्वेष्मि ये च माम्
With your strength, may destruction and the snares of death be loosened; O Aśvattha, cast down my enemies—those whom I hate and those who hate me.
यथाश्वत्थ वानस्पत्यान् आरोहन् कृणुषेऽधरान् । एवा मे शत्रोर्मूर्धानं विष्वग्भिन्द्धि सहस्व च
As you cause the roots of the aśvattha tree to grow upwards, so likewise, strike and shatter in every direction the head of my enemy, and overpower him.
तेऽधराञ्चः प्र प्लवन्तां छिन्ना नौरिव बन्धनात्। न वैबाधप्रणुत्तानां पुनरस्ति निवर्तनम्
Let those who are cast down drift away, like a boat cut loose from its moorings; for those driven away by distress, there is no return.
प्रैणान् नुदे मनसा प्र चित्तेनोत ब्रह्मणा । प्रैणान् वृक्षस्य शाखयाश्वत्थस्य नुदामहे
I drive them away with mind, with thought, and with sacred utterance; with the branch of the aśvattha tree, we drive them away.
हरिणस्य रघुष्यदोऽधि शीर्षणि भेषजम् । स क्षेत्रियं विषाणया विषूचीनमनीनशत्
Upon the head of the swift-moving deer is a remedy; with its horn, it has destroyed the kṣetriya, the wasting disease, and the evil spirit.
