तरणिर्विश्वदर्शतो ज्योतिष्कृदसि सूर्य । विश्वमा भासि रोचन
You are the swift one, all-seeing, O Sun, maker of light; you shine upon all the realms.
प्रत्यङ्देवानां विशः प्रत्यङ्ङुदेषि मानुषीः । प्रत्यङ्विश्वं स्वर्दृशे
You turn towards the gatherings of the gods, you turn towards the human assemblies, you turn towards all the shining world for vision.
{८} येना पावक चक्षसा भुरण्यन्तं जनाँ अनु । त्वं वरुण पश्यसि
With that radiant eye, O blazing one, you observe all beings; you, O Varuṇa, see.
वि द्यामेषि रजस्पृथ्वहर्मिमानो अक्तुभिः । पश्यन् जन्मानि सूर्य
You move through the wide atmosphere, O Sun, bearing your light with the days, seeing all births.
सप्त त्वा हरितो रथे वहन्ति देव सूर्य । शोचिष्केशं विचक्षणम्
Seven green horses draw you, O divine Sun, on your chariot, with fiery manes, all-seeing.
अयुक्त सप्त शुन्ध्युवः सूरो रथस्य नप्त्यः । ताभिर्याति स्वयुक्तिभिः
The seven swift mares, offspring of the Sun's chariot, are yoked; with these, he journeys by his own harnessing.
रोहितो दिवमारुहत्तपसा तपस्वी । स योनिमैति स उ जायते पुनः स देवानामधिपतिर्बभूव
The red one, ascetic through asceticism, ascended to heaven; he enters the womb, he is born again; he became the lord of the gods.
यो विश्वचर्षणिरुत विश्वतोमुखो यो विश्वतस्पाणिरुत विश्वतस्पृथः । सं बाहुभ्यां भरति सं पतत्रैर्द्यावापृथिवी जनयन् देव एकः
He who moves among all people, who faces all directions, who has hands everywhere, who stretches everywhere—he bears together with both arms, with wings, the one god generating heaven and earth.
एकपाद्द्विपदो भूयो वि चक्रमे द्विपात्त्रिपादमभ्येति पश्चात्। द्विपाद्ध षट्पदो भूयो वि चक्रमे त एकपदस्तन्वं समासते
With one foot, he strides more than the two-footed; from two-footed, he approaches the three-footed behind; from two-footed, he strides more than the six-footed; those with one foot compose their bodies.
अतन्द्रो यास्यन् हरितो यदास्थाद्द्वे रूपे कृणुते रोचमानः । केतुमान् उद्यन्त्सहमानो रजांसि विश्वा आदित्य प्रवतो वि भासि
Untiring, advancing, when the tawny one takes his place, shining, he makes two forms; adorned with a banner, rising, enduring the spaces, O shining one, you illuminate all the paths of the sun.
बण्महाँ असि सूर्य बडादित्य महाँ असि । महांस्ते महतो महिमा त्वमादित्य महाँ असि
Great are you, O Sun, great Aditya, you are great; great is your greatness, O Aditya, you are truly great.
रोचसे दिवि रोचसे अन्तरिक्षे पतङ्ग पृथिव्यां रोचसे रोचसे अप्स्वन्तः । उभा समुद्रौ रुच्या व्यापिथ देवो देवासि महिषः स्वर्जित्
You shine in heaven, you shine in the midspace, O bird, you shine on earth, you shine within the waters; both oceans you pervade with your radiance, O god, you are the mighty bull, the lord of light.
{९} अर्वाङ्परस्तात्प्रयतो व्यध्व आशुर्विपश्चित्पतयन् पतङ्गः । विष्णुर्विचित्तः शवसाधितिष्ठन् प्र केतुना सहते विश्वमेजत्
Coming near from afar, proceeding on the path, the swift, wise, flying bird; Vishnu, of manifold vision, standing with power, endures all that moves with his banner.
चित्रश्चिकित्वान् महिषः सुपर्ण आरोचयन् रोदसी अन्तरिक्षम् । अहोरात्रे परि सूर्यं वसाने प्रास्य विश्वा तिरतो वीर्याणि
Brilliant, wise, the mighty one, the splendid-winged, illuminating heaven and earth and the midspace; clothing the sun with day and night, he casts all heroic deeds across the regions.
तिग्मो विभ्राजन् तन्वं शिशानोऽरंगमासः प्रवतो रराणः । ज्योतिष्मान् पक्षी महिषो वयोधा विश्वा आस्थात्प्रदिशः कल्पमानः
Sharp, shining, clothing his form, the unapproachable, he pours forth the streams; radiant, winged, the mighty one, the leader of birds, he occupies all the directions, arranging them.
चित्रं देवानां केतुरनीकं ज्योतिष्मान् प्रदिशः सूर्य उद्यन् । दिवाकरोऽति द्युम्नैस्तमांसि विश्वातारीद्दुरितानि शुक्रः
Wonderful is the banner of the gods, the face, the radiant sun rising in the directions; the maker of day, surpassing in splendor, the bright one drives away all darkness and misfortunes.
चित्रं देवानामुदगादनीकं चक्षुर्मित्रस्य वरुणस्याग्नेः । आप्राद् द्वायापृथिवी अन्तरिक्षं सूर्य आत्मा जगतस्तस्थुषश्च
Wonderful among the gods rose the face, the eye of Mitra, Varuna, and Agni; you, O Sun, filled both heaven and earth and the midspace, you are the soul of all that moves and stands.
उच्चा पतन्तमरुणं सुपर्णं मध्ये दिवस्तरणिं भ्राजमानम् । पश्याम त्वा सवितारं यमाहुरजस्रं ज्योतिर्यदविन्ददत्त्रिः
We behold you, O Savitar, soaring high, the ruddy, splendid-winged one, shining in the midst of heaven, whom they call the unfailing light, which the three found.
दिवस्पृष्ठे धावमानं सुपर्णमदित्याः पुत्रं नाथकाम उप यामि भीतः । स नः सूर्य प्र तिर दीर्घमायुर्मा रिषाम सुमतौ ते स्याम
Running on the summit of heaven, the splendid-winged one, the son of Aditi, I approach for protection, afraid; O Sun, carry us across to long life, may we not perish, may we be in your good favor.
सहस्राह्ण्यं वियतावस्य पक्षौ हरेर्हंसस्य पततः स्वर्गम् । स देवान्त्सर्वान् उरस्युपदद्य संपश्यन् याति भुवनानि विश्वा
With a thousand days, the wings of the swift goose flying to heaven; he, seeing all, approaches all the worlds, having placed all the gods in his breast.

The red one, lord of heaven, moved in all directions; he protects heaven, the ocean, the earth, and all beings.
आरोहन् छुक्रो बृहतीरतन्द्रो द्वे रूपे कृणुते रोचमानः । चित्रश्चिकित्वान् महिषो वातमाया यावतो लोकान् अभि यद्विभाति
Rising, the bright, great, untiring one, shining, makes two forms; wondrous, wise, the mighty one, wind-borne, shines over as many worlds as there are.
अभ्यन्यदेति पर्यन्यदस्यतेऽहोरात्राभ्यां महिषः कल्पमानः । सूर्यं वयं रजसि क्षियन्तं गातुविदं हवामहे नाधमानाः
He is struck from all sides, he is encircled and beset; the buffalo, measured by day and night. We, not falling behind, call upon the Sun, who dwells in the region, who knows the paths.
पृथिवीप्रो महिषो नाधमानस्य गातुरदब्धचक्षुः परि विश्वं बभूव । विश्वं संपश्यन्त्सुविदत्रो यजत्र इदं शृणोतु यदहं ब्रवीमि
The buffalo, the offspring of Earth, is not one who falls behind; his gaze, undeceived, has encompassed all. Seeing all, possessing good guidance, worthy of sacrifice—may he hear what I declare.
पर्यस्य महिमा पृथिवीं समुद्रं ज्योतिषा विभ्राजन् परि द्यामन्तरिक्षम् । सर्वं संपश्यन्त्सुविदत्रो यजत्र इदं शृणोतु यदहं ब्रवीमि
His greatness encircles earth and ocean, shining with radiance, it surrounds the sky and the midspace. Seeing all, possessing good guidance, worthy of sacrifice—may he hear what I declare.
अबोध्यग्निः समिधा जनानां प्रति धेनुमिवायतीमुषासम् । यह्वा इव प्र वयामुज्जिहानाः प्र भानवः सिस्रते नाकमच्छ
Agni has awakened among the people with kindling, stretching forth the dawn like a cow. The swift ones, rising up, have hastened forth; the rays have streamed toward the summit of heaven.
१३.३ य इमे द्यावापृथिवी जजान यो द्रापिं कृत्वा भुवनानि वस्ते । यस्मिन् क्षियन्ति प्रदिशः षडुर्वीर्याः पतङ्गो अनु विचाकशीति । तस्य देवस्य क्रुद्धस्यैतदागो य एवं विद्वांसं ब्राह्मणं जिनाति । यस्माद्वाता ऋतुथा पवन्ते यस्मात्समुद्रा अधि विक्षरन्ति । तस्य देवस्य क्रुद्धस्यैतदागो य एवं विद्वांसं ब्राह्मणं जिनाति । उद्वेपय रोहित प्र क्षिणीहि ब्रह्मज्यस्य प्रति मुञ्च पाशान्
He who generated these heavens and earth, who, having made the expanse, encompasses the worlds; in whom the six directions and the flying sun abide—of that god, when angered, this is the offense: whoever overcomes a learned Brahmin who knows thus. From whom the winds blow in due season, from whom the oceans overflow—of that god, when angered, this is the offense: whoever overcomes a learned Brahmin who knows thus. Shake off, Rohita, drive away, diminish the bonds of the Brahmin-slayer, release him from the fetters.
यो मारयति प्राणयति यस्मात्प्राणन्ति भुवनानि विश्वा । तस्य देवस्य क्रुद्धस्यैतदागो य एवं विद्वांसं ब्राह्मणं जिनाति । उद्वेपय रोहित प्र क्षिणीहि ब्रह्मज्यस्य प्रति मुञ्च पाशान्
He who causes to die, who gives life, from whom all beings live—of that god, when angered, this is the offense: whoever overcomes a learned Brahmin who knows thus. Shake off, Rohita, drive away, diminish the bonds of the Brahmin-slayer, release him from the fetters.
