ब्रह्मणाग्नी वावृधानौ ब्रह्मवृद्धौ ब्रह्माहुतौ । ब्रह्मेद्धावग्नी ईजाते रोहितस्य स्वर्विदः
Agni and Brahman have grown together, nourished by the Brahman, offered with Brahman; Agni, kindled by Brahman, is worshipped in the sacrifice of Rohita, the knower of the sun.
सत्ये अन्यः समाहितोऽप्स्वन्यः समिध्यते । ब्रह्मेद्धावग्नी ईजाते रोहितस्य स्वर्विदः
One is concentrated in truth, another is kindled in the waters; Agni, kindled by Brahman, is worshipped in the sacrifice of Rohita, the knower of the sun.
{५} यं वातः परिशुम्भति यं वेन्द्रो ब्रह्मणस्पतिः । ब्रह्मेद्धावग्नी ईजाते रोहितस्य स्वर्विदः
He whom the wind surrounds, whom Indra and Brahmanaspati support—Agni, kindled by Brahman, is worshipped in the sacrifice of Rohita, the knower of the sun.
वेदिं भूमिं कल्पयित्वा दिवं कृत्वा दक्षिणाम् । घ्रंसं तदग्निं कृत्वा चकार विश्वमात्मन्वद्वर्षेणाज्येन रोहितः
Having prepared the altar as earth and made the sky the southern direction, Rohita made that Agni, the devourer, the all-pervading self, with the ghee of the year.
वर्षमाज्यं घ्रंसो अग्निर्वेदिर्भूमिरकल्पत । तत्रैतान् पर्वतान् अग्निर्गीर्भिरूर्ध्वामकल्पयत्
The devourer, Agni, became the altar and earth, with the ghee of the year as rain; there Agni, with his hymns, established these mountains on high.
गीर्भिरूर्ध्वान् कल्पयित्वा रोहितो भूमिमब्रवीत्। त्वयीदं सर्वं जायतां यद्भूतं यच्च भाव्यम्
Having established the mountains on high with hymns, Rohita spoke to the earth: 'In you may all that exists and all that is to be be born.'
स यज्ञः प्रथमो भूतो भव्यो अजायत । तस्माद्ध जज्ञ इदं सर्वं यत्किं चेदं विरोचते रोहितेन ऋषिणाभृतम्
That sacrifice became the first, both what has been and what will be was born; from it indeed all this arose, whatever here shines, upheld by Rohita the seer.
यश्च गां पदा स्फुरति प्रत्यङ्सूर्यं च मेहति । तस्य वृश्चामि ते मूलं न छायां करवोऽपरम्
Whoever treads upon the earth with his foot, or urinates facing the sun, I cut off his root, not his shadow, I do not make another.
यो माभिछायमत्येषि मां चाग्निं चान्तरा । तस्य वृश्चामि ते मूलं न छायां करवोऽपरम्
Whoever passes between me and my shadow, or between me and Agni, I cut off his root, not his shadow, I do not make another.
यो अद्य देव सूर्य त्वां च मां चान्तरायति । दुष्वप्न्यं तस्मिं छमलं दुरितानि च मृज्महे
Who today, O god Sūrya, comes between you and me, from him we wipe away evil dreams, defilement, and misfortunes.
मा प्र गाम पथो वयं मा यज्ञादिन्द्र सोमिनः । मान्त स्थुर्नो अरातयः
May we not stray from the path, nor from the sacrifice, O Indra, O Soma; may hostile ones not remain among us.
यो यज्ञस्य प्रसाधनस्तन्तुर्देवेष्वाततः । तमाहुतमशीमहि
He who is the preparer of the sacrifice, the thread stretched among the gods, may we consume that oblation.
13.2 उदस्य केतवो दिवि शुक्रा भ्राजन्त ईरते । आदित्यस्य नृचक्षसो महिव्रतस्य मीढुषः
The bright banners of him rise shining in the sky; of the sun, seeing all men, of the great-vowed, gracious one.
दिशां प्रज्ञानां स्वरयन्तमर्चिषा सुपक्षमाशुं पतयन्तमर्णवे । स्तवाम सूर्यं भुवनस्य गोपां यो रश्मिभिर्दिश आभाति सर्वाः
We praise the sun, guardian of the world, who makes the directions known, shining with his rays, swift-winged, flying quickly in the expanse, who with his rays illumines all directions.
यत्प्राङ्प्रत्यङ्स्वधया यासि शीभं नानारूपे अहनी कर्षि मायया । तदादित्य महि तत्ते महि श्रवो यदेको विश्वं परि भूम जायसे
As you go east and west by your own law, drawing the diverse days with your power, O Āditya, great is that greatness of yours, great your fame, as you alone are born encompassing all.
विपश्चितं तरणिं भ्राजमानं वहन्ति यं हरितः सप्त बह्वीः । स्रुताद्यमत्त्रिर्दिवमुन्निनाय तं त्वा पश्यन्ति परियान्तमाजिम्
The seven green ones, many, carry the wise, swift, shining one; Atri led forth the flowing one to the sky; they see you circling the course.
मा त्वा दभन् परियान्तमाजिं स्वस्ति दुर्गामति याहि शीभम् । दिवं च सूर्य पृथिवीं च देवीमहोरात्रे विमिमानो यदेषि
May they not harm you as you circle the course; with well-being, go on your auspicious path; O Sun, measuring the sky and the divine earth, day and night, as you proceed.
स्वस्ति ते सूर्य चरसे रथाय येनोभावन्तौ परियासि सद्यः । यं ते वहन्ति हरितो वहिष्ठाः शतमश्वा यदि वा सप्त बह्वीः
Well-being to you, O Sun, as you travel in your chariot, by which you swiftly circle; whom your best green steeds carry, whether a hundred horses or seven, many.
सुखं सूर्य रथमंशुमन्तं स्योनं सुवह्निमधि तिष्ठ वाजिनम् । यं ते वहन्ति हरितो वहिष्ठाः शतमश्वा यदि वा सप्त बह्वीः
O Sun, mount the radiant chariot, pleasant and well-yoked, set the swift steed ablaze; which your bright green horses draw, whether they are a hundred, or seven, or many.
सप्त सूर्यो हरितो यातवे रथे हिरण्यत्वचसो बृहतीरयुक्त । अमोचि शुक्रो रजसः परस्ताद्विधूय देवस्तमो दिवमारुहत्
Seven green horses the Sun has yoked to his chariot for the journey, shining with golden form, vast in might; the bright one was released beyond the darkness, shaking it off, the god ascended to the sky.
उत्केतुना बृहता देव आगन्न् अपावृक्तमोऽभि ज्योतिरश्रैत्। दिव्यः सुपर्णः स वीरो व्यख्यददितेः पुत्रो भुवनानि विश्वा
With a great banner the god approached, having driven away the darkness, he beheld the light; the divine bird of the sky, that hero, the son of Aditi, revealed all the worlds.
उद्यन् रश्मीन् आ तनुषे विश्वा रुपाणि पुष्यसि । उभा समुद्रौ क्रतुना वि भासि सर्वांल्लोकान् परिभूर्भ्राजमानः
Rising, you stretch out your rays, you sustain all forms; by your will you shine over both oceans, you encompass all the worlds, resplendent.
{७} पूर्वापरं चरतो माययैतौ शिशू क्रीडन्तौ परि यातोऽर्णवम् । विश्वान्यो भुवना विचष्टे हैरण्यैरन्यं हरितो वहन्ति
By their magic, these two children, moving back and forth, play as they travel around the ocean; one observes all the worlds, the other is drawn by golden horses.
दिवि त्वात्त्रिरधारयत्सूर्या मासाय कर्तवे । स एषि सुधृतस्तपन् विश्वा भूतावचाकशत्
In the sky, three times you are established, O Sun, to make the month; thus you move, well-supported, shining, proclaiming all beings.
उभावन्तौ समर्षसि वत्सः संमातराविव । नन्वेतदितः पुरा ब्रह्म देवा अमी विदुः
You endure both, like a calf with its mothers; truly, even before this, the gods knew this sacred knowledge.
यत्समुद्रमनु श्रितं तत्सिषासति सूर्यः । अध्वास्य विततो महान् पूर्वश्चापरश्च यः
What is established after the ocean, that the Sun seeks to know; his path is vast, spread out, both the former and the latter.
तं समाप्नोति जूतिभिस्ततो नाप चिकित्सति । तेनामृतस्य भक्षं देवानां नाव रुन्धते
He attains that by his efforts, from which there is no turning back; by that, he does not withhold the food of immortality from the gods.
उदु त्यं जातवेदसं देवं वहन्ति केतवः । दृशे विश्वाय सूर्यम्
Upwards, the rays carry that Jātavedas, the god, the Sun, for all to see.
अप त्ये तायवो यथा नक्षत्रा यन्त्यक्तुभिः । सूराय विश्वचक्षसे
As birds fly away, so those rays go forth with the nights, for the Sun, the all-seeing.
अदृश्रन्न् अस्य केतवो वि रश्मयो जनामनु । भ्राजन्तो अग्नयो यथा
His rays were seen, his beams among the people, shining like fires.
