वृश्च प्र वृश्च सं वृश्च दह प्र दह सं दह
Cut, cut forth, cut together; burn, burn forth, burn together.
ब्रह्मज्यं देव्यघ्न्य आ मूलादनुसंदह
Burn up the Brahma-slayer, O goddess, from the root.
यथायाद्यमसादनात्पापलोकान् परावतः
Just as from Yama's abode, let him go far away from evil worlds.
एवा त्वं देव्यघ्न्ये ब्रह्मज्यस्य कृतागसो देवपीयोरराधसः
So do you, O goddess, for the Brahma-slayer, the wrongdoer, the god-hated, the evildoer.
वज्रेण शतपर्वणा तीक्ष्णेन क्षुरभृष्टिना
With the hundred-jointed thunderbolt, with the sharp razor-blade.
प्र स्कन्धान् प्र शिरो जहि
Strike off the shoulders, strike off the head.
लोमान्यस्य सं छिन्धि त्वचमस्य वि वेष्टय
Cut off his hairs, strip off his skin.
मांसान्यस्य शातय स्नावान्यस्य सं वृह
Slice his flesh, tear away his sinews.
अस्थीन्यस्य पीडय मज्जानमस्य निर्जहि
Crush his bones, extract his marrow.
सर्वास्याङ्गा पर्वाणि वि श्रथय
Dislocate all his limbs and joints.
अग्निरेनं क्रव्यात्पृथिव्या नुदतामुदोषतु वायुरन्तरिक्षान् महतो वरिम्णः
Let Agni drive him, the flesh-eater, from the earth; let Vāyu expel him from the atmosphere of vast extent.
सूर्य एनं दिवः प्र णुदतां न्योषतु
Let Sūrya drive him away from the sky; let him be cast down.
उदेहि वाजिन् यो अप्स्वन्तरिदं राष्ट्रं प्र विश सूनृतावत्। यो रोहितो विश्वमिदं जजान स त्वा राष्ट्राय सुभृतं बिभर्तु
Rise up, O powerful one, who is within the waters; enter this realm abounding in fair speech. May the Red One, who created all this, bear you well-supported for the kingdom.
उद्वाज आ गन् यो अप्स्वन्तर्विश आ रोह त्वद्योनयो याः । सोमं दधानोऽप ओषधीर्गाश्चतुष्पदो द्विपद आ वेशयेह
Come forth, O vigorous one, who is within the waters; enter, ascend to your present abodes. Bearing Soma, I settle here the waters, plants, cattle, four-footed and two-footed beings.
यूयमुग्रा मरुतः पृश्निमातर इन्द्रेण युजा प्र मृणीत शत्रून् । आ वो रोहितः शृणवत्सुदानवस्त्रिषप्तासो मरुतः स्वादुसंमुदः
You, fierce Maruts, born of Pṛśni, together with Indra, destroy the enemies. May the Red One, rich in gifts, listen to you; thrice seven Maruts, sweetly mingled.
रुहो रुरोह रोहित आ रुरोह गर्भो जनीनां जनुषामुपस्थम् । ताभिः संरब्धमन्वविन्दन् षडुर्वीर्गातुं प्रपश्यन्न् इह राष्ट्रमाहाः
He rose, he ascended, the Red One rose up; the embryo reached the wombs of beings. With those, they found the impassioned one; seeing the path, the six broad ones established the realm here.
आ ते राष्ट्रमिह रोहितोऽहार्षीद्व्यास्थन् मृधो अभयं ते अभूत्। तस्मै ते द्यावापृथिवी रेवतीभिः कामं दुहातामिह शक्वरीभिः
Here the Red One brought your kingdom; he drove away the foes, and you became unharmed. For him, may Heaven and Earth, rich in treasures, here grant his desire with their abundant gifts.
रोहितो द्यावापृथिवी जजान तत्र तन्तुं परमेष्ठी ततान । तत्र शिश्रियेऽज एकपादोऽदृंहद्द्यावापृथिवी बलेन
The Red One generated Heaven and Earth; there the supreme one stretched out the thread. There the unborn, one-footed, took his seat; by his might he made Heaven and Earth firm.
रोहितो द्यावापृथिवी अदृंहत्तेन स्व स्तभितं तेन नाकः । तेनान्तरिक्षं विमिता रजांसि तेन देवा अमृतमन्वविन्दन्
The Red One made firm Heaven and Earth; by him this support stands, by him the sky. By him the atmosphere, the measured regions; by him the gods found immortality.
वि रोहितो अमृशद्विश्वरूपं समाकुर्वाणः प्ररुहो रुहश्च । दिवं रूढ्वा महता महिम्ना सं ते राष्ट्रमनक्तु पयसा घृतेन
The Red One pervaded the all-formed, growing and causing to grow. Having ascended the sky with great majesty, may your kingdom be united with milk and ghee.
यास्ते रुहः प्ररुहो यास्त आरुहो याभिरापृणासि दिवमन्तरिक्षम् । तासां ब्रह्मणा पयसा ववृधानो विशि राष्ट्रे जागृहि रोहितस्य
Those risings of yours, those great ascents, by which you fill the sky and atmosphere—nourished by the sacred word and by milk, awaken in the kingdom of the Red One.
यस्ते विशस्तपसः संबभूवुर्वत्सं गायत्रीमनु ता इहागुः । तास्त्वा विशन्तु मनसा शिवेन संमाता वत्सो अभ्येतु रोहितः
Those clans of yours that arose from heat, following the Gāyatrī as a calf, have come here. May they enter you with a mind at peace; may the Red One, as a well-born calf, approach you.
{१} ऊर्ध्वो रोहितो अधि नाके अस्थाद्विश्वा रूपाणि जनयन् युवा कविः । तिग्मेनाग्निर्ज्योतिषा वि भाति तृतीये चक्रे रजसि प्रियाणि
The Red One stands upright in the sky, generating all forms, young, wise. With sharp fire he shines forth with light, in the third region he made dear things.
सहस्रशृङ्गो वृषभो जातवेदा घृताहुतः सोमपृष्ठः सुवीरः । मा मा हासीन् नाथितो नेत्त्वा जहानि गोपोषं च मे वीरपोषं च धेहि
The thousand-horned bull, knower of all births, offered with ghee, backed by Soma, mighty—may I not be left unprotected by you, may I not abandon you; grant me the nourishment of cattle and of heroes.
रोहितो यज्ञस्य जनिता मुखं च रोहिताय वाचा श्रोत्रेण मनसा जुहोमि । रोहितं देवा यन्ति सुमनस्यमानाः स मा रोहैः सामित्यै रोहयतु
The Red One is the progenitor and mouth of the sacrifice; to the Red One I offer with speech, with hearing, and with mind. The gods approach the Red One with joyful hearts; may the Red One raise me up for the purpose of chanting.
रोहितो यज्ञं व्यदधाद्विश्वकर्मणे तस्मात्तेजांस्युप मेमान्यागुः । वोचेयं ते नाभिं भुवनस्याधि मज्मनि
The Red One established the sacrifice for the All-Crafter; from him, the energies have come to me. I would declare your navel, upon the seat of the world.
आ त्वा रुरोह बृहत्युत पङ्क्तिरा ककुब्वर्चसा जातवेदः । आ त्वा रुरोहोष्णिहाक्षरो वषट्कार आ त्वा रुरोह रोहितो रेतसा सह
To you has ascended the Bṛhatī and the Paṅkti, O radiant Jātavedas. To you has ascended the Uṣṇih meter, the syllable of 'vaṣaṭ', and to you has ascended the Red One together with the seed.
अयं वस्ते गर्भं पृथिव्या दिवं वस्तेऽयमन्तरिक्षम् । अयं ब्रध्नस्य विष्टपि स्वर्लोकान् व्यानशे
This one holds the embryo of earth, this one holds the sky, this one holds the midspace. This one, in the seat of Bradhna, has spread out the heavenly realms.
वाचस्पते पृथिवी नः स्योना स्योना योनिस्तल्पा नः सुशेवा । इहैव प्राणः सख्ये नो अस्तु तं त्वा परमेष्ठिन् पर्यग्निरायुषा वर्चसा दधातु
Lord of Speech, may the earth be pleasant for us, may the womb and bed be auspicious for us. May breath remain here in friendship with us; may the supreme Lord encircle you with life and brilliance.
वाचस्पत ऋतवः पञ्च ये नौ वैश्वकर्मणाः परि ये संबभूवुः । इहैव प्राणः सख्ये नो अस्तु तं त्वा परमेष्ठिन् परि रोहित आयुषा वर्चसा दधातु
Lord of Speech, the five seasons which have arisen for us through the All-Crafter, which have come together—may breath remain here in friendship with us; may the supreme Lord encircle you, O Red One, with life and brilliance.
