अघं प्रच्यमाना दुष्वप्न्यं पक्वा
Evil, destruction, and bad dreams ripen.
मूलबर्हणी पर्याक्रियमाणा क्षितिः पर्याकृता
The earth, uprooted at its roots, is overturned.
असंज्ञा गन्धेन शुगुद्ध्रियमाणाशीविष उद्धृता
Without consciousness, with its fragrance removed, venomous snakes are lifted out.
अभूतिरुपह्रियमाणा पराभूतिरुपहृता
Loss is carried away, and defeat is taken away.
शर्वः क्रुद्धः पिश्यमाना शिमिदा पिशिता
Śarva, enraged, crushes; the flesh is crushed.
अवर्तिरश्यमाना निर्ऋतिरशिता
Nirṛti, devourer, devours and is devoured.
अशिता लोकाच्छिनत्ति ब्रह्मगवी ब्रह्मज्यमस्माच्चामुष्माच्च
She who devours cuts off worlds; the cow of Brahman, the Brahman-wife, from here and from there.
तस्या आहननं कृत्या मेनिराशसनं वलग ऊबध्यम्
Her killing is by witchcraft; Menirā's command binds tightly.
अस्वगता परिह्णुता
She is deprived of her own, abandoned.
अग्निः क्रव्याद्भूत्वा ब्रह्मगवी ब्रह्मज्यं प्रविश्यात्ति
Agni, becoming flesh-eating, enters and devours the cow of Brahman, the Brahman-wife.
सर्वास्याङ्गा पर्वा मूलानि वृश्चति
He cuts all her limbs, joints, and roots.
छिनत्त्यस्य पितृबन्धु परा भावयति मातृबन्धु
He severs her paternal kin, and drives away her maternal kin.
विवाहां ज्ञातीन्त्सर्वान् अपि क्षापयति ब्रह्मगवी ब्रह्मज्यस्य क्षत्रियेणापुनर्दीयमाना
She destroys all marriages and relatives; the cow of Brahman, the Brahman-wife, when not returned by the Kṣatriya.
अवास्तुमेनमस्वगमप्रजसं करोत्यपरापरणो भवति क्षीयते
He makes him homeless, without his own, without offspring; he becomes without refuge and is diminished.
य एवं विदुषो ब्राह्मणस्य क्षत्रियो गामादत्ते
Whoever, knowing thus, the Kṣatriya takes the cow from the Brāhmaṇa.
क्षिप्रं वै तस्याहनने गृध्राः कुर्वत ऐलबम्
Quickly, at her killing, vultures make carrion.
क्षिप्रं वै तस्यादहनं परि नृत्यन्ति केशिनीराघ्नानाः पाणिनोरसि कुर्वाणाः पापमैलबम्
Quickly, at her burning, the hairy women dance around, striking evil carrion with their hands on her chest.
क्षिप्रं वै तस्य वास्तुषु वृकाः कुर्वत ऐलबम्
Quickly, in her dwelling, wolves make carrion.
क्षिप्रं वै तस्य पृच्छन्ति यत्तदासी३ इदं नु ता३ इति
They quickly ask about what was then, whether this or that.
छिन्ध्या छिन्धि प्र छिन्ध्यपि क्षापय क्षापय
Cut, cut, cut forth, destroy, destroy completely.
आददानमाङ्गिरसि ब्रह्मज्यमुप दासय
Take up the Brahma-slayer, O Angirasa, and deliver it up.
वैश्वदेवी ह्युच्यसे कृत्या कूल्बजमावृता
You are called Vaisvadevi, bound with the ritual cord.
ओषन्ती समोषन्ती ब्रह्मणो वज्रः
She who burns and burns together is the thunderbolt of Brahman.
क्षुरपविर्मृत्युर्भूत्वा वि धाव त्वम्
Become death, O razor-edged one, and run forth.
आ दत्से जिनतां वर्च इष्टं पूर्तं चाशिषः
You grant victory, brilliance, desired offerings, fulfilled wishes.
आदाय जीतं जीताय लोकेऽमुष्मिन् प्र यच्छसि
Having taken the victory, you bestow it in this world upon the victor.
अघ्न्ये पदवीर्भव ब्राह्मणस्याभिशस्त्या
O sinless one, become the path, away from the curse of the Brahmin.
मेनिः शरव्या भवाघादघविषा भव
Become a mark for arrows, become one who destroys the destroyer.
अघ्न्ये प्र शिरो जहि ब्रह्मज्यस्य कृतागसो देवपीयोरराधसः
O sinless one, strike off the head of the Brahma-slayer, the wrongdoer, the god-hated, the evildoer.
त्वया प्रमूर्णं मृदितमग्निर्दहतु दुश्चितम्
Let Agni burn up the evil deed that has been crushed and trampled by you.
