शितिपदी सं पतत्वमित्राणाममूः सिचः । मुह्यन्त्वद्यामूः सेना अमित्राणां न्यर्बुदे
Let the sharp-footed one fall upon the enemies, let her pour out confusion; today, let those armies of the enemies be bewildered in the abyss.
{२९} मूढा अमित्रा न्यर्बुदे जह्येषां वरंवरम् । अनया जहि सेनया
Let the enemies be deluded in the abyss; let their chosen ones be destroyed again and again; with this army, strike them down.
यश्च कवची यश्चाकवचोऽमित्रो यश्चाज्मनि । ज्यापाशैः कवचपाशैरज्मनाभिहतः शयाम्
Whether the enemy is armored or unarmored, or rides in a chariot, let him be struck down by the snares of the armored, by the snares of the chariot, and lie defeated.
ये वर्मिणो येऽवर्माणो अमित्रा ये च वर्मिणः । सर्वांस्तामर्बुदे हतां छ्वानोऽदन्तु भूम्याम्
Those enemies who are armored, those who are unarmored, and those who are partly armored—let all of them, struck down in the abyss, be devoured by dogs upon the earth.
ये रथिनो ये अरथा असादा ये च सादिनः । सर्वान् अदन्तु तान् हतान् गृध्राः श्येनाः पतत्रिणः
Those who ride in chariots, those who do not, those who are mounted, and those who are not—let all those slain be devoured by vultures, hawks, and birds of prey.
सहस्रकुणपा शेतामामित्री सेना समरे वधानाम् । विविद्धा ककजाकृता
Let the hostile army, struck down in battle, lie as a heap of corpses, pierced and torn apart by jackals.
मर्माविधं रोरुवतं सुपर्णैरदन्तु दुश्चितं मृदितं शयानम् । य इमां प्रतीचीमाहुतिममित्रो नो युयुत्सति
Let those who are wounded in their vital parts, who cry out, who are struck down and lie there, be devoured by great birds; whoever among the enemies opposes this westward offering of ours.
यां देवा अनुतिष्ठन्ति यस्या नास्ति विराधनम् । तयेन्द्रो हन्तु वृत्रहा वज्रेण त्रिषन्धिना
That offering which the gods observe, which cannot be resisted—may Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, strike down with his thunderbolt of triple edge.
12.1 सत्यं बृहदृतमुग्रं दीक्षा तपो ब्रह्म यज्ञः पृथिवीं धारयन्ति । सा नो भूतस्य भव्यस्य पत्न्युरुं लोकं पृथिवी नः कृणोतु
Truth, greatness, order, might, consecration, austerity, sacred knowledge, and sacrifice uphold the earth; may she, the broad earth, our companion in what has been and what will be, make for us a wide world.
असंबाधं मध्यतो मानवानां यस्या उद्वतः प्रवतः समं बहु । नानावीर्या ओषधीर्या बिभर्ति पृथिवी नः प्रथतां राध्यतां नः
Unconfined in her middle for humankind, whose slopes and depressions are even and abundant, who bears plants of many virtues—may the earth spread out for us and grant us riches.
यस्यां समुद्र उत सिन्धुरापो यस्यामन्नं कृष्टयः संबभूवुः । यस्यामिदं जिन्वति प्राणदेजत्सा नो भूमिः पूर्वपेये दधातु
On whom the ocean, the river, and the waters rest, on whom food and peoples have come into being, on whom this world moves and breathes—may that earth place us in the first and best.
यस्याश्चतस्रः प्रदिशः पृथिव्या यस्यामन्नं कृष्टयः संबभूवुः । या बिभर्ति बहुधा प्राणदेजत्सा नो भूमिर्गोष्वप्यन्ने दधातु
Whose four directions are the earth, on whom food and peoples have come into being, who bears life in many forms—may that earth place us among cattle and food.
यस्यां पूर्वे पूर्वजना विचक्रिरे यस्यां देवा असुरान् अभ्यवर्तयन् । गवामश्वानां वयसश्च विष्ठा भगं वर्चः पृथिवी नो दधातु
On whom the people of old performed their deeds, on whom the gods overcame the demons, may the earth grant us the wealth, strength, and glory of cattle, horses, and offspring.
विश्वंभरा वसुधानी प्रतिष्ठा हिरण्यवक्षा जगतो निवेशनी । वैश्वानरं बिभ्रती भूमिरग्निमिन्द्रऋषभा द्रविणे नो दधातु
Supporter of all, rich in treasures, firm foundation, golden-breasted, the seat of the world, bearing the universal fire—may the earth, with Indra and the Bull among gods, grant us wealth.
यां रक्षन्त्यस्वप्ना विश्वदानीं देवा भूमिं पृथिवीमप्रमादम् । सा नो मधु प्रियं दुहामथो उक्षतु वर्चसा
Whom the sleepless gods protect, the all-giving earth, unfailing—may she, milking sweet and dear, nourish us with splendor.
यार्णवेऽधि सलिलमग्र आसीत्यां मायाभिरन्वचरन् मनीषिणः । यस्या हृदयं परमे व्योमन्त्सत्येनावृतममृतं पृथिव्याः । सा नो भूमिस्त्विषिं बलं राष्ट्रे दधातूत्तमे
On whom, in the beginning, the waters rested in the ocean, whom the wise sought out with their thoughts, whose heart in the highest heaven is covered with truth and immortality—may that earth grant us strength and power in the highest realm.
यस्यामापः परिचराः समानीरहोरात्रे अप्रमादं क्षरन्ति । सा नो भूमिर्भूरिधारा पयो दुहामथो उक्षतु वर्चसा
On whom the waters, ever-moving, flow together, day and night, without fail—may that earth, rich in streams, milk for us abundance and nourish us with splendor.
यामश्विनावमिमातां विष्णुर्यस्यां विचक्रमे । इन्द्रो यां चक्र आत्मनेऽनमित्रां शचीपतिः । सा नो भूमिर्वि सृजतां माता पुत्राय मे पयः
Whom the Aśvins measured, on whom Viṣṇu strode, whom Indra made unconquered for himself, the lord of might—may that earth, our mother, pour out her milk for her child.
{१} गिरयस्ते पर्वता हिमवन्तोऽरण्यं ते पृथिवि स्योनमस्तु । बभ्रुं कृष्णां रोहिणीं विश्वरूपां ध्रुवां भूमिं पृथिवीमिन्द्रगुप्ताम् । अजीतोऽहतो अक्षतोऽध्यष्ठां पृथिवीमहम्
Your mountains are the peaks, O Earth, the snowy ranges, your forests; may the Earth be pleasant for us. The variegated, the dark, the red, the all-formed, the steadfast Earth, protected by Indra—unconquered, unhurt, unbroken—I take my stand upon the Earth.
यत्ते मध्यं पृथिवि यच्च नभ्यं यास्त ऊर्जस्तन्वः संबभूवुः । तासु नो धेह्यभि नः पवस्व माता भूमिः पुत्रो अहं पृथिव्याः पर्जन्यः पिता स उ नः पिपर्तु
Whatever is your middle, O Earth, and whatever is your navel, and those forms of strength that have arisen from your body—upon these place us, flow over us; Earth is the mother, I am the son of Earth; Parjanya is the father—may he fill us.
यस्यां वेदिं परिगृह्णन्ति भूम्यां यस्यां यज्ञं तन्वते विश्वकर्माणः । यस्यां मीयन्ते स्वरवः पृथिव्यामूर्ध्वाः शुक्रा आहुत्याः पुरस्तात्। सा नो भूमिर्वर्धयद्वर्धमाना
On whom they set up the altar, on the Earth, on whom the all-crafting ones extend the sacrifice; on whom the singers measure their chants, on the Earth, where the bright offerings rise upward before—may that Earth, ever growing, make us grow.
यो नो द्वेषत्पृथिवि यः पृतन्याद्योऽभिदासान् मनसा यो वधेन । तं नो भूमे रन्धय पूर्वकृत्वरि
Whoever hates us, O Earth, whoever fights us, whoever attacks with mind or with violence—O Earth, bind him for us, as did those of old.
त्वज्जातास्त्वयि चरन्ति मर्त्यास्त्वं बिभर्षि द्विपदस्त्वं चतुष्पदः । तवेमे पृथिवि पञ्च मानवा येभ्यो ज्योतिरमृतं मर्त्येभ्य उद्यन्त्सूर्यो रश्मिभिरातनोति
Born from you, upon you move mortals; you bear the two-footed and the four-footed. These five races of men are yours, O Earth, for whom the immortal light, the Sun, spreads his rays among mortals.
ता नः प्रजाः सं दुह्रतां समग्रा वाचो मधु पृथिवि धेहि मह्यम्
May our offspring be united, may they be complete; place sweet speech in me, O Earth.
विश्वस्वं मातरमोषधीनां ध्रुवां भूमिं पृथिवीं धर्मणा धृताम् । शिवां स्योनामनु चरेम विश्वहा
You are the universal mother of plants, the steadfast Earth, upheld by law; may we move upon you, O all-supporting one, in happiness and safety.
महत्सधस्थं महती बभूविथ महान् वेग एजथुर्वेपथुष्टे । महांस्त्वेन्द्रो रक्षत्यप्रमादम् । सा नो भूमे प्र रोचय हिरण्यस्येव संदृशि मा नो द्विक्षत कश्चन
You have become great in your vast abode, you are mighty, you move with great force, trembling swiftly; mighty Indra guards you from harm. Shine forth for us, O Earth, as gold in vision; let no one injure us.
अग्निर्भूम्यामोषधीष्वग्निमापो बिभ्रत्यग्निरश्मसु । अग्निरन्तः पुरुषेषु गोष्वश्वेष्वग्नयः
Agni is in the Earth, in the plants; the waters bear Agni, Agni is in the rays; Agni is within men, in cows, in horses—Agni is everywhere.
अग्निर्दिव आ तपत्यग्नेर्देवस्योर्वन्तरिक्षम् । अग्निं मर्तास इन्धते हव्यवाहं घृतप्रियम्
Agni burns from the sky; through Agni, the god, the midspace is wide. Mortals kindle Agni, the carrier of offerings, dear to ghee.
{२} अग्निवासाः पृथिव्यसितज्ञूस्त्विषीमन्तं संशितं मा कृणोतु
Clothed in Agni, knowing the blackness of Earth, may she not make us sharp with her blazing power.
भूम्यां देवेभ्यो ददति यज्ञं हव्यमरंकृतम् । भूम्यां मनुष्या जीवन्ति स्वधयान्नेन मर्त्याः । सा नो भूमिः प्राणमायुर्दधातु जरदष्टिं मा पृथिवी कृणोतु
On Earth, they offer sacrifice to the gods, the clarified oblation; on Earth, men live, mortals by their own food. May this Earth grant us breath and life; let her not make us decrepit.
