स्तेयं दुष्कृतं वृजिनं सत्यं यज्ञो यशो बृहत्। बलं च क्षत्रमोजश्च शरीरमनु प्राविशन्
Theft, wrongdoing, sin, truth, sacrifice, great glory, strength, sovereignty, and vigor entered the body.
{२३} भूतिश्च वा अभूतिश्च रातयोऽरातयश्च याः । क्षुधश्च सर्वास्तृष्णाश्च शरीरमनु प्राविशन्
Prosperity and adversity, gifts and refusals, all forms of hunger and thirst entered the body.
निन्दाश्च वा अनिन्दाश्च यच्च हन्तेति नेति च । शरीरं श्रद्धा दक्षिणाश्रद्धा चानु प्राविशन्
Blame and blamelessness, and whatever is 'strike' or 'do not strike'—faith, generosity, and lack of faith entered the body.
विद्याश्च वा अविद्याश्च यच्चान्यदुपदेश्यम् । शरीरं ब्रह्म प्राविशदृचः सामाथो यजुः
Knowledge and ignorance, and whatever else is to be taught—the Veda, Ṛc, Sāman, and Yajus entered the body.
आनन्दा मोदाः प्रमुदोऽभीमोदमुदश्च ये । हसो नरिष्टा नृत्तानि शरीरमनु प्राविशन्
Joys, delights, pleasures, supreme joys, and happiness; laughter, harmlessness, and dances entered the body.
आलापाश्च प्रलापाश्चाभीलापलपश्च ये । शरीरं सर्वे प्राविशन्न् आयुजः प्रयुजो युजः
Speech, babbling, desires, and idle talk—all these entered the body, both those joined and those unjoined.
प्राणापानौ चक्षुः श्रोत्रमक्षितिश्च क्षितिश्च या । व्यानोदानौ वाङ्मनः शरीरेण त ईयन्ते
The in-breath and out-breath, sight and hearing, and the two earths—what is firm and what is ground—vital air and upward breath, speech and mind, all these move with the body.
आशिषश्च प्रशिषश्च संशिषो विशिषश्च याः । चित्तानि सर्वे संकल्पाः शरीरमनु प्राविशन्
Blessings and commands, permissions and distinctions—all intentions and all resolves—entered the body.
आस्तेयीश्च वास्तेयीश्च त्वरणाः कृपणाश्च याः । गुह्याः शुक्रा स्थूला अपस्ता बीभत्सावसादयन्
The tendencies to steal and to dwell, haste and misery, what is hidden, what is pure, what is gross, what is rejected, and what is repulsive—all these settled down.
अस्थि कृत्वा समिधं तदष्टापो असादयन् । रेतः कृत्वाज्यं देवाः पुरुषमाविशन्
Having made bone as the fuel-stick, those eight waters settled down; having made semen as the clarified butter, the gods entered the person.
या आपो याश्च देवता या विराड्ब्रह्मणा सह । शरीरं ब्रह्म प्राविशच्छरीरेऽधि प्रजापतिः
The waters, the deities, and the sovereign order, along with Brahman, entered the body; Brahman entered the body, and Prajapati presided over the body.
सूर्यश्चक्षुर्वातः प्राणं पुरुषस्य वि भेजिरे । अथास्येतरमात्मानं देवाः प्रायच्छन्न् अग्नये
The sun became the eye, the wind became the breath of the person; then the gods gave his other self to Agni.
तस्माद्वै विद्वान् पुरुषमिदं ब्रह्मेति मन्यते । सर्वा ह्यस्मिन् देवता गावो गोष्ठ इवासते
Therefore, the knower considers this person to be Brahman; for in him all the deities abide, just as cows in a pen.
प्रथमेन प्रमारेण त्रेधा विष्वङ्वि गच्छति । अद एकेन गच्छत्यद एकेन गच्छतीहैकेन नि षेवते
With the first measure, it moves in threefold ways everywhere; with one, it goes there; with another, it goes there; with one, it remains here.
अप्सु स्तीमासु वृद्धासु शरीरमन्तरा हितम् । तस्मिं छवोऽध्यन्तरा तस्माच्छवोऽध्युच्यते
Placed in the waters, grown in the mothers, the body is set within; within it is the shadow, and therefore it is called 'shadow.'
11.9(११.११) ये बाहवो या इषवो धन्वनां वीर्याणि च । असीन् परशून् आयुधं चित्ताकूतं च यद्धृदि । सर्वं तदर्बुदे त्वममित्रेभ्यो दृशे कुरूदारांश्च प्र दर्शय
All those arms, those arrows, the powers of bows, swords, axes, weapons, and the intent and resolve in the heart—all this, O Arbuda, you possess; reveal them to us for the sight of our enemies, and show forth the mighty ones.
उत्तिष्ठत सं नह्यध्वं मित्रा देवजना यूयम् । संदृष्टा गुप्ता वः सन्तु या नो मित्राण्यर्बुदे
Rise up, join together, O divine beings, our friends; let those who are seen and those who are hidden be your protectors—those who are our friends in Arbuda.
उत्तिष्ठतमा रभेतामादानसंदानाभ्याम् । अमित्राणां सेना अभि धत्तमर्बुदे
Rise up, take hold, with both taking and binding; let the armies of the enemies be struck down in Arbuda.
अर्बुदिर्नाम यो देव ईशानश्च न्यर्बुदिः । याभ्यामन्तरिक्षमावृतमियं च पृथिवी मही । ताभ्यामिन्द्रमेदिभ्यामहं जितमन्वेमि सेनया
Arbuda is the name of the god, and Nyarbudi is the lord; by these two, the midspace and this great earth are encompassed. With these two, with Indra, I pursue victory with my army.
उत्तिष्ठ त्वं देवजनार्बुदे सेनया सह । भञ्जन्न् अमित्राणां सेनां भोगेभिः परि वारय
Rise up, you divine beings, in Arbuda, together with the army; breaking the armies of the enemies, surround them with enjoyments.
सप्त जातान् न्यर्बुद उदाराणां समीक्षयन् । तेभिष्ट्वमाज्ये हुते सर्वैरुत्तिष्ठ सेनया
Seven noble ones, born in Nyarbuda, observe; with all of them, when the offering is poured, rise up with the army.
प्रतिघ्नानाश्रुमुखी कृधुकर्णी च क्रोशतु । विकेशी पुरुषे हते रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Make the enemies' wives tearful, let their ears be filled with wailing, with disheveled hair, when a man is slain and torn apart in your Arbuda.
संकर्षन्ती करूकरं मनसा पुत्रमिच्छन्ती । पतिं भ्रातरमात्स्वान् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Dragging the corpse, longing in her mind for her son, her husband, her brother, or her kin, let her wail, torn apart in your Arbuda.
अलिक्लवा जाष्कमदा गृध्राः श्येनाः पतत्रिणः । ध्वाङ्क्षाः शकुनयस्तृप्यन्त्वमित्रेषु समीक्षयन् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let the vultures, crows, eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey, the jackals and the greedy ones, be satisfied, watching the enemies torn apart in your Arbuda.
अथो सर्वं श्वापदं मक्षिका तृप्यतु क्रिमिः । पौरुषेयेऽधि कुणपे रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let every wild beast, fly, and worm be satisfied with the corpse, with the excrement, with the carrion, with what is chewed, with your swelling.
{२५} आ गृह्णीतं सं बृहतं प्राणापानान् न्यर्बुदे । निवाशा घोषाः सं यन्त्वमित्रेषु समीक्षयन् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let the vital breaths, inhaled and exhaled, be seized and gathered together in the swelling; let the dwellings and settlements depart, watching among the enemies, with your swelling.
उद्वेपय सं विजन्तां भियामित्रान्त्सं सृज । उरुग्राहैर्बाह्वङ्कैर्विध्यामित्रान् न्यर्बुदे
Shake and scatter the enemies in fear; pierce the enemies in the swelling with wide jaws and strong arms.
मुह्यन्त्वेषां बाहवश्चित्ताकूतं च यद्धृदि । मैषामुच्छेषि किं चन रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let their arms and the deceit in their hearts become confused; let nothing of theirs be left, with your swelling.
प्रतिघ्नानाः सं धावन्तूरः पटौरावाघ्नानाः । अघारिणीर्विकेश्यो रुदत्यः पुरुषे हते रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let the destroyers run together, the strong, the loud-voiced, the slayers; let the evil, disheveled, weeping women gather over the slain man, with your swelling.
श्वन्वतीरप्सरसो रूपका उतार्बुदे । अन्तःपात्रे रेरिहतीं रिशां दुर्णिहितैषिणीम् । सर्वास्ता अर्बुदे त्वममित्रेभ्यो दृशे कुरूदारांश्च प्र दर्शय
The dog-like nymphs, the forms, and the swelling; the one who stirs within the vessel, the biting, the one who seeks evil—may you show all these in the swelling to be seen by the enemies, and reveal the mighty ones.
